Chapter 224 POSSESSIVE GAZE
Nixx
I felt a wild surge within me as our eyes locked. There was a possessiveness building up in me, and I could feel the shift in my wolf’s demeanor. She looked startled when her gaze met mine and noticed the sudden change in my eyes to silver.
“Tatiana,” I said, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me, “I just wanted to let you know that there’s a chance we might come for you. You bear my mark, and my wolf might just pay you a visit. No promises though!”
As I walked out of the clinic, it felt like my soul was on the verge of collapsing. Her words hit me hard. My heart ached with a deep, gnawing pain.
I won’t give you a grade. I can’t undo what happened with Mirabelle. I had gone to her with a question, and things just spiraled out of control. We were both feeling isolated, and it happened unexpectedly.
I was determined to try to win her over. After all, I have a sister too—I understand the complexities. I just want to give it a shot.
The sun was dipping below the horizon. The day had flown by so quickly, and I felt like I had accomplished nothing. My stomach growled, a clear sign that I needed to get something to eat.
As I strolled down the dusty road toward the pack house, my hands tucked casually into my jeans pockets, I felt a growing void within me. I needed to complete the mate bond.
I looked down at the ground and was startled to see a pair of bright red stilettos. I glanced up and saw a series of legs, hips, and curves before finally meeting her intense green eyes. It was as if a storm of anger was swirling behind those eyes. I felt her power enveloping me, pulling me in. My wolf was beginning to stir from the sensation. She looked stunning, and it pained me to even acknowledge it.
“Hey, come on over,” she called out confidently. “I’m holding a meeting in the pack house, in Williams’ office. Make sure to bring your parents.” Each word was delivered with an assured, commanding presence. She was like a whirlwind, sweeping through everything in her path. Her power was overflowing, and I couldn’t help but be drawn to it. The moon’s gift, when unleashed, was indeed a force to be reckoned with.
I watched in awe as Mirabelle’s eyes quickly scanned my face. With a playful tug on her red bottom lip, she seemed uncertain for a moment. Then, just as swiftly, she was gone, leaving behind a whirlwind of chaos. Her hasty departure had her body spinning, her hair flowing outward, almost brushing against my face.
Despite feeling a twinge of guilt, I found myself unable to keep my eyes off her captivating figure for a bit longer than I probably should have. It felt like I was betraying my own buddy, and I wondered if I should really be thinking about her this way.
That’s the allure of an Oracle, I suppose. They have this innate ability to captivate anyone. There’s something magnetic about their energy that draws people in. I’d just witnessed the immense power Mirabelle wielded, enough to sway even the most devoted mates. Oracles are taught from a young age to control their energy, but it’s not always easy.
Mirabelle was determined to achieve her goals, and nothing seemed to deter her.
After swinging by the house to pick up Mom and Dad, we headed over to the pack house. The meeting was set to take place in William’s office. William, Annabel, and Mirabelle were already waiting for us.
“What's going on, Mirabelle?” Dad asked, his brow furrowed as he glanced over at William, who seemed just as confused. Dad’s squint was subtle, but I noticed it, even if no one else seemed to.
Mirabelle stood tall and commanding. “Hey, everyone, take a seat and I’ll fill you in,” she said, her gaze briefly locking with mine before shifting to William as we all settled.
She had a presence that filled the room, captivating everyone instantly. William’s wolf picked up on the significant power she radiated, and my own wolf felt it too.
Mirabelle glowed with an inner fire, her skin flushed with a vibrant energy. She allowed William to take the head of the table, but she made it clear that this was her meeting by standing, while the rest of us were already seated.
“We need to talk about Percival’s situation,” she began with urgency. “The pack has been buzzing with aggressive males discussing challenging him before his trial for Darius’ death. I know it’s sudden, but Alpha and Luna, this is serious. We need to act quickly. I’ve stationed guards outside the clinic for now.” Her gaze was steady, always returning to William, who seemed to be taken aback.
How had she managed to pull that off without an alpha’s order?
William and Annabel exchanged worried glances, and William confronted Mirabelle’s unwavering gaze. “Mirabelle, no offense, but I’ve got this. Dealing with this is something I’ll handle on my own time. We’re grieving the loss of our son and dealing with the near-death experience of our other child. It’s crucial that you don’t overstep and that you control your wolf’s power. Just saying.” His eyes flashed with the presence of his wolf.
Mirabelle couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “So, you’re curious about why I think you’re stuck in your actions, Alpha William?” The title seemed almost like a curse on her lips. She glanced around at everyone in the room. “Look, I get it. You’re worried about your son and you don’t want him to face the consequences of killing Darius. But here’s the thing—you need to step up and let the pack know that Darius had a mental illness. It’s crucial for everyone to understand that he posed a danger to all of us.”
Annabel and William appeared deeply shaken. My parents were clearly unhappy, and I felt a bit lost amid the unfolding drama. I already had some sense of what was going on, so there were no real surprises for me. Mirabelle had given me a heads-up earlier in the day.
