Chapter 179 HEARTBREAK AND ANGER
Edeline
I couldn't help but mock him bitterly. "Can you even imagine how your mother would have reacted if she found out about Nixx from the start? Dealing with my mother and Nixx being a part of your lives... it’s a whole situation! She wouldn’t have done it. That’s not something a woman could easily handle!" My tone was matter-of-fact, filled with frustration.
He looked down at the ground, his shoulders hunched. "I know. Hey, I was kinda hoping that... maybe you'd—"
"Huh?" I interrupted, trying to keep my tone neutral but failing a bit. "So, let me get this straight," I said, letting a hint of sarcasm creep into my voice. "You want me to take in your little pup?" My confusion was palpable. "You've really got me all turned around, Percival. This bond was a bad idea. Even if that dog passes away... I won’t be able to join you. And the puppy will pass away. Conor and Anita will definitely make sure of it." My jaw tightened, teeth grinding together as frustration bubbled up inside me.
Suddenly, he looked up, his breathing heavy and his nostrils flaring. His eyes were wide, and he declared firmly, "I won’t allow them."
I shook my head sadly, feeling the weight of his words and my own emotions. "What if I'm pregnant, Percival?" The question was out before I could fully think it through. "So, what's next? This is really frustrating!" I stood up slowly, trying to compose myself.
He mirrored my actions, his knees making a popping sound as he leaned over me with a look of concern. "H-hey, you haven’t started bleeding yet?"
I wiped my eyes, feeling the sting of tears, and shook my head before locking eyes with him. "And what if I am pregnant... I won’t bother acknowledging you. You’re on your own, buddy. I’m done with you, Percival. You’re out of my life for good. Well, you won’t be able to hurt me anymore. Even if the puppy passes away... if it dies... Don’t expect me to console you. I no longer see you as my friend." My tears had dried up, replaced by a burning anger. I wanted to lash out, but the bond held me back, limiting what I could do.
"Well, I guess this doesn’t really mean anything, but hey, we’re stuck together forever, right?" he said, trying to lighten the mood, but I was having none of it. "Hey Percival, I just wanted to let you know... I’m sorry, but I have to decline your offer. We’re no longer connected. I really don’t like you!" The bond was twisting painfully, but I barely noticed. At this point, the discomfort had become something I could almost welcome—it had turned into a necessary part of my existence.
He looked at me with a shocked and horrified expression, his blue eyes reflecting his agony. "What?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.
He dropped to his knees, his face crumpling into an expression of deep despair. I observed him with a neutral expression, jaw clenched tight. My tears had almost completely dried. As he sank to the ground, he bowed his head and wrapped his arms tightly around my thighs, pulling me close in a desperate embrace.
"Nah," I said firmly, shaking my head. "Sorry, Edeline. No way am I going to let you do that!"
"He's crying a lot now," she said, her voice tinged with concern. "You really shouldn’t say things like that." Her words were gentle, but they did little to sway my decision. "Hey, I just wanted to say that I really love you! Can you please understand me?" His words were sincere, but I had already made up my mind. I couldn’t handle this anymore. Seeing him put someone else before me was just too much. Sure, I got the male, but was it really worth all this?
I froze as a wave of warmth and soothing sensation flowed through me from his touch. His fingers brushed gently against my jeans, almost as if they yearned to reach the bare skin of my stomach. Looking into his face, I saw a void where my own emotions seemed to swirl—emptiness mingled with deep anguish and profound sadness.
"I hope you can understand where I’m coming from," he said, his voice tinged with desperation. "I’m not interested in having another woman. Tag, you’re it! Sorry, but I want my own family. Sorry, but I love him." His eyes were pleading as he continued, "Edeline, I apologize if I come across as a bit of a bad wolf. I’m actually more afraid of his death now than I was before. Before I saw his face in that photo, he was full-blown crying. Tears streamed down his red face, his expression scrunched up in every way to show the pain in his heart. I could feel his agony."
"Please, don’t make me feel this way," he said, his voice breaking. I could barely put into words how much I adored that adorable little pup. "So, if... I totally understand how you feel about our pup if you’re pregnant. Maybe even more." He gently nuzzled his face against my stomach, taking in my scent. "Hey Edeline... I’m just here for my pup. If he manages to survive... Tatiana won’t be involved in that anymore. She’s just the vessel..."
"I can’t," I murmured, my voice hoarse as I gently untangled myself from his embrace. I watched him stumble, his hands hitting the ground as his back arched, a cry escaping his lips. It hurt me to see him in such pain, a painful reminder of memories I’d rather forget.
You could sense my discomfort when I woke up. You could have at least given me a call when you sensed my heartache. It seems like your priorities are all out of whack, and I might come across as a bit heartless for calling it quits because of a troublesome pup... Yeah, I’m feeling pretty banged up. It really stung. Again and again. Remember what you said in the cave that night? You didn’t hold onto them. Things seemed to change once you laid eyes on him, but you made promises to me... One more time... And you couldn’t deliver. No big deal. I’m not even surprised anymore. My heart was shattered a long time ago, and now it feels like there’s just this empty hole inside me.
