Chapter 143 FATE’S CRUEL TWIST
Edeline
“I am not concerned about this anymore,” Conor said, shrugging with a casual smirk. “She is no longer my daughter. She is no longer my concern. She belongs to you now.”
Alpha William and Anita exchanged uneasy glances. Tatiana’s face was a mix of hurt and confusion as she looked up at Conor. Conor stood up with a weary sigh. “William, regarding our previous agreement... go ahead and cancel it. I do not have to worry about her anymore. She is your problem now. Do whatever you see fit with these two. They are banished from my pack lands.” He let out a dark chuckle as he started toward the door.
“Hey, Dad!” Tatiana cried out, her tears flowing freely as she moved to block his path.
Conor’s face hardened. “I am not your father,” he said coldly. “I do not know you. Now, move out of the way.” His voice carried a sense of finality and urgency.
“Hey, Conor!” Anita shouted in a panicked voice. “We are in serious danger! You can’t just leave us here!”
Conor turned, his expression one of contempt. “I would deal with both of you myself if I had to,” he said with a sneer. “I should have ended this when you first became entangled with the darkness. You are both terrible,” he spat out, his disdain evident.
The realization hit me that perhaps only a few people, mostly healers, truly understood the depth of the darkness.
Alpha William cleared his throat, drawing everyone’s attention. “Alright then,” he said, his tone taking on a more serious edge. “Conor, your actions have caused quite a disruption in our pack. If we decide to keep these two women in our custody permanently... it will be in the cells. I expect some form of compensation for having dealt with your demands all this time.”
I watched William closely, intrigued by his words and wondering about his true intentions. It seemed that Conor had reached a point where he no longer cared about the consequences and was willing to leave their fate in William’s hands.
Conor turned and met William’s gaze, a smirk playing on his lips. “How about we just call it even?” he suggested casually. “Well, in the end... your son couldn't control himself,” he added with a hint of satisfaction. His gaze shifted to Tatiana, and he roughly grabbed her by the neck. “Actually,” he said, looking down at her with a dark glint in his eyes, “let’s decide on the consequences for this inappropriate behavior.” His eyes then shifted to Anita. “And her as well.”
Without another word, Conor dragged Tatiana out of the room toward the office entrance. Her screams filled the air as she struggled against his hold. Anita, chained and unable to move, could only watch helplessly. Percival and Nixx stood by, visibly restrained but clearly unsettled. The situation was slipping out of control, and it was clear that Conor's instability was making this far more dangerous than anticipated. We were all on edge, ready to follow Conor if necessary.
Both Nixx and Percival had their own stakes in the outcome of this unfolding drama.
“Hold on!” Anita shouted, her voice cutting through the chaos. Our attention, along with Conor’s, snapped back to her. Conor paused, his expression curious.
“Hey, what’s up?” Conor asked, tilting his head as he waited for her to speak.
Anita closed her eyes and spoke in a flat, resigned tone. “It was me. I wanted all of this.” Her voice was devoid of hope, betraying her understanding of the gravity of the situation.
It was clear that Anita knew well what Conor was capable of. She was resolute in her desire to protect her niece, even if it meant sacrificing herself. Anita knew that staying in this room meant certain death for her, but she couldn’t bear the thought of Tatiana suffering under Conor’s hands. She had already lost everything she cared about, and with her final ounce of kindness, she was determined to save Tatiana.
Conor, upon hearing Anita’s confession, walked back into the meeting room with a purposeful stride. He took his seat, then roughly pushed Tatiana back into her chair before settling down himself, clearly preparing for what was to come.
Anita sighed deeply, her eyes remaining closed as she spoke. “Tatiana had no idea about my plans for her,” she said quietly. “The plans I made with Ben. She only learned of my actions after being brought here. Ben had been struggling to find alpha males who were motivated to train. It was quite a challenge, as most of them had already found their partners. Just when we thought all was lost, Percival appeared. Ben mentioned him to me, and I persuaded Tatiana to become friends with him. Knowing her heat was coming, I had her drink a special tea I made to completely mask her scent. That’s when Percival was driven by an intense desire brought on by her heat. It was the only way to ensure she would find an Alpha mate. We couldn’t risk her meeting someone who wasn’t an Alpha, only to have her realize it later. She got pregnant, and I figured you would eventually find out. You would push Percival to do the right thing, ensuring she had an Alpha mate and solidifying her bloodlines. This way, you would have an heir and avoid any doubts about Tatiana’s lineage. We could have continued as we had been, and I might have even moved up to be with Ben. I didn’t think you would ever harm Tatiana.” She turned her head towards me, narrowing her eyes.
"We encountered a small issue along the way," Anita began, her voice steady but her eyes showing weariness. "He got home with Tatiana, only to find that his companion had just transformed. Tatiana called you, hoping you might be able to help out... and you did. But unfortunately, it didn’t manage to separate them." She paused, a smirk creeping onto her face. "She called me every day to keep me updated. I told her she had no choice but to use the youngest son. He’s infatuated with Edeline, and she could definitely use that to her advantage. Well, she managed to deceive him, and he decided to keep an eye on Percival, looking for some information. He seemed rather naive," she said, a hint of satisfaction in her tone.
