Goof
I knew Silvy thought I was acting odd all day. I was. I suck at hiding things from her. Even good things. But she figured it out real quick and forgave me. I think feeding her helped. After Xavier left to go with Erin to play with the other kids Pocket came over to us. “ I know this is your baby shower but I was wondering if you would you mind if I gave Xavier a gift?” she asked Silvy. “ Pocket, what are you up to?” Pocket explained that when she first met Xavier he said he wanted to join the hockey team at her rink but Gena couldn’t afford it. So Pocket got everything ready to get Xavier a scholarship so he could join the team. Silvy smiled “ They are going to love it. Yes, do it.”
Silvy called Gena, Tony and Xavier over to her. Once they were with us “ Guys Sabine has something for you.” “ But it is your shower,” Tony said. “ I know but Sabine asked permission and I gave it,” Silvy said. Then Pocket proceed to explain what she heard and what she did. “ All you have to do is show up for the practices. They start in three weeks to get ready for the next season.” “ This is very generous of you Sabine, but Xavier doesn’t know how to ice skate,” Gena said. “ No worries. We will teach him.” Pocket told them. Xavier charged Pocket’s legs wrapping his little arms around them. “ Thank you. Thank you,” he said excitedly.
Pocket gently removes Xavier's arms and swats down to his level. “ This is what family does. You don’t need to thank me,” she said to him. Xavier looks confused. “ We are family he?” asks. “ You are Silvy’s brother, right?” Pocket asks. Xavier nods. “ Well, Silvy is like a sister to us. Well, except Goof.” Pocket says. She leans into Xavier and stage whispers “ He likes Silvy like a boyfriend.” Xavier giggles at that making Silvy laugh. “ So since Silvy is family that makes you family too.” Pocket told him. “ Yea, more family,” Xavier yelled making everyone laugh. His reaction reminded me of when Jace and Jax first came here and found out they had a bunch of uncles.
Tony and Gena hugged and thanked Pocket but she just brushed it off like no big deal. For her it wasn’t. After that, they started with the activities they had planned. There was onesie decorating that I even took part in. It was actually fun. The girls played a few games that I had no interest in so I joined my brothers in the backyard for a beer and watched the kids play. I was sitting on one of the porch chairs watching the kids run around the back yard shooting Nerf guns at each other or going up the stairs for the slide that was attached to the playhouse. Xavier was pushing Erin on the swings. I took a couple of pictures because it was too cute. Silvy was going to love it.
I feel someone sit next to me but don’t look over keeping my eyes on the kids. “ Something you want to show me, son?” Tony asked from beside me. I turn my head towards him and see him laid back in the chair taking a pull of his beer. “ What are you talking about?” I asked. Tony laughs “ Goof, let me tell you a secret. Xavier can’t keep a secret. He told me and Gena about the store you took him to and asked for his help.” Now I know what he was asking about I start laughing. “ Good to know. Since Silvy hasn’t confronted me I guess he hasn’t told her yet.” I inquired. Tony shook his head “ No. Gena stressed how important it was for you to ask Silvy when you were ready.” Note to self don’t take a five-year-old on a secret mission without stressing it is a secret.
I have been carrying around the ring since I bought it. I didn’t want to leave it at the house because I didn’t want to run the risk of Silvy finding it. And leaving in my room at the club was a no-go. Even though my room was locked I didn’t trust a skank to break in. It has happened before. Not to me but still I don’t trust them. I look over my shoulder to make sure Silvy is still inside. Axel happenes to be standing by the back door and says to me “ You’re clear, man.” I nod as I reach into my pocket. “ Tony, it isn’t like I wasn’t going to tell you about it.” Tony raises his hand for me to stop. “ I know. I figured you would come to me when you were ready. I know enough from Silvy and the few times I have met you to know you aren’t like that.” he said.
I handed Tony the ring to look at. A few of my brothers came to have a look too. “ Think she will like it?” I asked Tony. “ Yea, Daddy. Did we do good?” Xavier asked. Damn, when did he get here? That kid is sneaky as hell. When he was staying with us I threatened Silvy that I was going to put a bell on him because he scared the shit out of me twice and walked in on me having Silvy pinned against the counter. We were just making out thankfully so he didn’t see much but it was cutting it close. Silvy laughed and told me to get used to it because our baby will be doing the same thing. The way she said it made me smile because it means she sees me in her future.
Tony looks at me but answers Xavier, “ Yea, you guys did a good job. She is going to love it.” “ What are the odds of getting your permission to ask her?” I asked him. “ I would say they are good. I trust my princess so if she says yes, I will say welcome to the family.” Tony said. I hold my hand out to him and we shake. “ So how are you going to ask her?” Tank asked me as he walked over with Lita on his hip. Poor kid must have played hard because she looks like she is about to fall asleep on Tank’s shoulder. “ I have no clue,” I said being a hundred percent honest. I look at all my brothers that have gathered. I motion to them “ You guys have set the bar pretty high in that department.”
Rowdy laughs “ Anything you do will be better than the way Axel and I proposed.” Axel elbows Rowdy “ Hey, man. Don’t knock it. We got the girl.” “ You sure did,” Merigold said sliding between Axel and Rowdy. Axel kisses the top of Merigold’s head followed by Rowdy. “ I came out to tell you it is time for gifts and Silvy wants you to be part of it. But Goof I will offer you a tip. However you ask just make it from the heart. It doesn’t have to be some big top thing. Silvy doesn’t need that.” Merigold said. I stand up to go inside but not before thanking Merigold. She is right, Silvy wouldn’t want a big deal. I will have to put some thought into the way I want to ask her.
I walked in and saw Silvy still sitting in the expectant mom's chair. At every baby shower, the mom-to-be gets a chair just for her and she gets waited on. Silvy saw me and beamed “ Honey, come on. I want you to help me see what little bit got.” Honey? That is new but I’ll be damn if I’m going to call Silvy out on it. If she wanted to call me honey she could all she wanted. I all but ran to her side. I helped her open everything from bottles, diapers, bibs, clothes ranging from newborn to three months old, a case of baby wipes, blankets, a diaper bag and a stroller. The stroller was from Tony and Gena even if Xavier took all the credit. Silvy had a great time but was exhausted by the time all was said and done. She fell asleep in the car on the way home my poor babe. I didn’t even bother to wake her I just carried her up to bed so she could have a nap.
