Chapter 32
“Of course I can!” Sarah replied so loudly just to mock Emily but her expressions were a bit stiffened. The property manager's suggestion hit a nerve; she hesitated to spend the money, “but must we break the gate? It's not about the cost….it just that it was designed by a renowned artist. Wouldn't it be a shame to destroy it like that?” she said, hoping that word would sit some senses into the man's head.
Emily smirked, this damn old woman always finds excuses for herself. It was clear where Victor got his nasty character from, they were both equally hypocritical and pretentious. “It's okay, once you pay, I'll simply use the money to make a new gate just like that”
The property manager who have been slightly uncertain gained confidence from Emily assurance. He stood taller and continued, "Miss Charles had made it clear, Mrs Callum, what are you waiting for, just give us a direct answer. Do you want us to proceed or not? If you said no, we will leave and you can remain here as long as you want!”
A nearby staff member pulled out his phone pretending to be shocked, “manager the weather forecast says it is going to reach forty degrees today! If we stay out here longer, we might end up with sun burns!”
Sarah quivered at his words and stopped hesitating, “ Alright, I'll pay just get me out of here!”
The property manager and his staff exchanged a knowing look and grinning like they had won a trophy, “Excellent choice with your consent, we will begin right away!”
Several workers stepped forward with their tools and started the job.
Sarah's expression twisted in distress clearly pained at the thought of losing her money. Emily watched with an amusing smile, satisfied that everything was going as she wanted.
There was an old saying that said wicked people always get what they deserve and it seemed to describe Sarah perfectly in the phrase.
Emily was aware that the staff members had strategically played Sarah after all Sarah had just scolded him.
Meanwhile, Susan had been trying to call Victor several times. When she finally reached him, she put the call on loud speaker and quickly moved back to stand beside Sarah,casting a provocative glance at Emily,
“Hello Victor, where are you?” She said into the phone.
“At the office” Victor's deep, tired voice rang back . He had just gotten to his office and plugged in his phone when Susan's call came in. Still feeling angry at how Nathaniel had treated him earlier in the morning , he decided to suppress it by talking to the woman he loved. “Why? Are you missing me already?”
Upon hearing this, Susan looked even more arrogant at Emily. However with Sarah around she didn't dare to be too bold and kept a shy demeanor, “ victor stop it! You're so naughty!”
Emily's lips twitched, she had remained composed until she heard Susan's flirtatious tone.
Ugh.. it was completely annoying!
Was this who Victor was into? The thought alone made Emily shivered, her skin crawling with goosebumps. Then she sighed in and relaxed.
It made sense now why victor was interested In her, she could never Adopt Susan flirtatious natured to seduced victor. Susan, feeling so excited glanced at Emily again trying to read her expression of every one of the envy and jealousy she had .
She thought to herself Emily was just pretending not to be interested in Victor. Even though she wasn't as beautiful or wealthy as Emily, the man Emily loved so much was falling on her feet!
In her mind, this already put her ahead of Emily. From the phone, victor chuckle could be heard clearly enjoying the conversation with his little lover. Suddenly, he pictured Emily's vibrant and charming face and his expression turned to a deep frown.
If only Emily could be more like Susan…gentle, sweet and dependent on him. Perhaps he could have been nicer to her.
After all Emily's beauty and figure are way much Better than that of Susan. Men are visual beings. What man wouldn't desire someone like Emily?
“Victor, there is something very important I need to talk to you about. Mom and I are at the London skycastle estate. We came to see Emily but she…she wasn't welcoming us inside. If fact she had the property staff kick us out” as Susan speaks, her pains became visible in her expression. “So mom wants you to come over right now and sign the divorce paper. It's time to end things with Emily!”
Silence fell on the other end of the line.
Then victor replied angrily, “ are you all out of your minds? Why stir up trouble? Haven't you embarrassed yourselves enough? Now go home!”
Susan was shocked, disbelief clearly showing on her face like she had heard a strange man speak. She glanced At the phone screen as if to be sure if she haven't called a wrong number,
“Victor, you…” before she could finish her sentence, Sarah, whose one hand is now free, grabbed the phone from Susan, “ Victor, this is your mother speaking!” She said with her voice tinged in anger
“Mom? What on earth are you doing? Just go home, I'll deal with things myself”
Hearing his mother's voice, Victor's tone softened a bit, yet he still couldn't hold back his anger.
The memory of being kicked out of London skycastle estate by Nathaniel's men was still visible in his head. With his pride being damaged, Victor couldn't return back to a place where he was embarrassed and humiliated.
However he had no plans to divorce Emily.
“Are you planning to handle it? That does not matter. You need to come here now and divorce that woman! I can't bear her as my daughter in law any more!” Sarah's voice was forceful, her eyes shooting daggers at Emily.
The thought of Emily demanding six hundred thousand dollars from her fueled her anger even more.
Emily observed the Mother and daughter with a hint of amusement, taking in the drama as if watching a Play. Her relaxed compose only added more fire to Sarah and Susan's anger , making them clench their teeth.
However Emily's smile disappeared the moment she heard Victor's words.
“Mom, I'm not coming over there and I'm not divorcing her!” Victor said sternly .
His declaration instantly sparked the anger and frustration of the three women.
“Why?” All three women chorused at the same time then stopped and were surprised by their reactions.
Susan's expression immediately turned cold, if she had any doubts before about Emily's desire to divorce Victor, but seeing her upset face convinced her .
Reflecting on Emily's behavior at the Waylen family banquet the previous night, Susan couldn't help but wonder if Emily was under some strange influence.
What estate could explain a drastic Change of
Behavior in just a few days?
For a moment, Susan lost track of why Victor was refusing to accept divorce.
“There's no reason!” Victor said, “ are you with Emily right now, mom? Then tell her this, even if I die I'll drag her to hell with me. She can simply forget about getting away with me!”
