Chapter 221 Jinx
Chapter 221 Jinx
~Aveline~
The following morning, I was up at the crack of dawn and began getting ready for my visit to the royal dungeon. As Daisy helped pull my hair into an elegant updo, I couldn't help the smile that tugged at the corners of my lips as I watched my reflection.
Today, Maribel was finally going to have a taste of her own medicine.
"And done," Daisy announced and just then, a knock sounded at the door.
She stepped away from me and immediately went to answer it while I reached into the drawer and pulled out the box containing the vials Eryndor had sent yesterday.
I opened it and let my eyes linger on the pouch, my gaze lingering over it already picturing the agony it was going to bring about.
"My lady." Daisy's voice broke through my thoughts.
I closed the box gently and glanced over my shoulder.
"Hm?"
"Sir Lars says he has a delivery for you from Alpha Rhaedon."
My brows rose slightly in surprise.
A delivery from Rhaedon?
That was the last thing I'd expected.
What could it be?
I stood and approached the door.
Daisy stepped aside, and Lars bowed when he saw me before straightening and holding out a small box.
"Greetings, Luna. Alpha Rhaedon has instructed me to give this to you," he said.
"Where is he?" I asked as I accepted the box.
"There's been some conflict at the bordering camp between Asteria and Vermont, and he has to handle some official documents," Lars informed me as I opened the box.
Inside lay a single bracelet made of gemstones the same color as Rhaedon's eyes.
"It's a protective bracelet," Lars informed me.
I reached for it, lifting it carefully from the box and examining it between my fingers.
"It's truly beautiful, isn't it, my lady?" Daisy said from beside me, a wide smile spreading across her face. "Shall I help you put it on?"
I remained silent for a long moment, my eyes roaming over the gemstones, their golden hue delicately set together with fine metal strings.
They looked almost exactly like Rhaedon's eyes and were truly beautiful.
… I wasn't the type to be drawn to materialistic things, but since he'd offered it, I wasn't going to turn him down.
Turning to Daisy, I offered her my hand along with the bracelet. She took it happily, and within seconds, the bracelet was secured around my wrist, fitting so perfectly that it made me wonder for a moment how he'd gotten my wrist measurements.
Before I could dwell on it, Lars spoke.
"A truly beautiful piece, Luna. It suits you."
I stared down at it.
Jewelry had never seemed to belong on a hand like mine—one that had never been worshipped, cherished, or loved.
Yet despite the thought, I wore a faint smile.
"Pass my gratitude on to him," I said before turning to Daisy. "Let's go, Daisy."
Lars immediately stepped out of the way, and with Daisy following behind me, I made my way out of my room.
However, I'd barely taken a few steps before I stopped and glanced over my shoulder.
"Please be sure to pass along the message that I'd like to speak to him over dinner today as I have something urgent to tell him.”
Lars bowed.
"I'll deliver your message, Luna. Please have a nice trip."
His head remained bowed as I turned and continued walking.
Several servants greeted me along the way, and I acknowledged them with small smiles.
When I arrived at my carriage, Rowan was already waiting.
"Luna." He greeted me with a bow.
My eyes lingered on him for a split second.
With everything going on, I'd barely had time to speak to him about his regression. If he'd died later than I had, then he definitely possessed knowledge of future events.
Who knows? It might prove useful to me.
"Let's have a chat tomorrow in the garden, Rowan," I instructed as I reached the carriage.
His expression faltered for a second, clearly not expecting my request, but nonetheless, he nodded.
The door to the carriage was pulled open, and I ascended the first three steps before pausing. Then, almost instinctively, I threw a glance over my shoulder, my gaze directed upward.
The carriage had been parked in the center of the courtyard, directly beneath the window I knew belonged to Rhaedon's study.
My gaze landed on him standing by the window and our eyes met from across the courtyard.
He hadn't come to give me the bracelet himself, but apparently, he had enough time to stand by the window and watch me leave.
Something about that made the corners of my lips pull upward.
Without hesitation, I raised my hand—the one wearing the bracelet—and gave him a small wave.
He didn't react, but I knew he'd seen me.
I turned and stepped into the carriage. Daisy joined me on the opposite seat, and once the door closed, the carriage began moving.
My gaze lingered on Rhaedon's figure by the window for another moment before I finally looked away, my mind drifting toward what I wanted to discuss with him.
Last night, when I couldn't sleep, I'd gotten up and wandered into the packhouse library. Curiosity had gotten the better of me, and after three whole hours of searching, I'd surprisingly stumbled upon useful information about Aether Frost Syndrome that I'd overlooked in my past life.
Now, simply thinking about it filled my chest with a flicker of anticipation at the thought of how he'd react when I told him about it over dinner.
"You've been in the best of moods lately, my lady," Daisy said.
I glanced at her from across the carriage.
"I have?"
She nodded, wearing a smile so bright and contagious that I found myself returning it.
"I guess it's because, from here on out, only good things are about to happen."
