Chapter 308 From Now On, the Powell Family Is Your Home

The man said bluntly, "This mission to Regal City is very important. If we bring her along, she'll just get in the way!"

In everyone's eyes, Isabella was just a girl who had barely come of age—nothing but a burden for this operation.

"Exactly, Ms. Powell. You should think carefully about what Louie said. Louie told you to bring Isabella but didn't say why. Sometimes what Louie says isn't necessarily right."

"Bringing her might cause us trouble at a critical moment."

Listening to everyone's objections coming one after another, Gwyneth's eyes darkened slightly.

After a moment of silence, she said, "Since Louie said we should bring her, then we'll follow Louie's advice."

"But..."

"That's settled then."

Gwyneth's final words left no room for argument. Though the others still disagreed, they didn't dare say anything more.

Gwyneth discussed further with several elders and selected a few with advanced ancient martial arts skills to accompany her to Regal City.

The elders naturally accepted without hesitation.

"Ms. Powell, if you need me, I can also escort you!" Patrick volunteered.

Gwyneth glanced at him and said coolly, "You'd better just stay at the castle."

Patrick naturally caught Gwyneth's dismissive attitude. Though his face showed nothing, he clenched his fists behind his back.

He'd like to see how much longer Gwyneth could hold onto that position!

After the meeting ended, Isabella followed Gwyneth out of the council chamber.

When they reached a place with no one around, Gwyneth finally spoke, "What do you think about me bringing you to Regal City this time?"

"I don't really have any thoughts about that," Isabella pressed her lips together, "but I do have thoughts about whether you're really my master or not."

Hearing this, Gwyneth stopped walking and looked at her sideways. "My memory recovery is fake. I only said that to make them believe in our relationship."

"However, I did teach you those moves. That part is true."

Isabella's black eyes, identical to Gwyneth's, stared at her intently. "So you really are my master?"

Gwyneth nodded. "Yes."

"For some reason, I've forgotten certain things, but Pippa remembered them for me."

"Pippa said I'm your master."

"You said your master was a woman about my age. You said she gave you my crest ring. You said she taught you writing and martial arts. You said she disappeared four years ago, and four years ago, my parents had their accident and I returned to the Powell family castle..."

"How can there be so many coincidences in the world? So isn't the answer clear enough?"

Isabella pressed her lips together, her feelings complicated.

So her master was Gwyneth. Gwyneth was the person she'd been looking for.

She stared at Gwyneth in a daze, moisture gathering at the corners of her eyes.

Gwyneth's expression tightened. "What's wrong?"

Isabella's eyes reddened. "I have so much I want to tell you."

"What do you want to tell me?"

Isabella looked aggrieved. "Do you know what happened after you left? I was mistakenly identified as the Taylor family's daughter and taken back to the Taylor Villa, but they treated me terribly. I wasn't happy at all at the Taylor Villa. That Olivia, who kept saying she was my birth mother, is actually just a vain, superficial woman. She's not even one ten-thousandth as good to me as you were."

"Gwyneth, I have no father or mother. I grew up with you from childhood. You raised me with your own hands. To me, you're like my mother."

"I knew someone as capable as you couldn't just disappear for no reason. I thought you didn't want me anymore, that you'd abandoned me, so I kept wanting to find you and ask why you suddenly left back then."

Watching Isabella cry, Gwyneth was stunned for a long moment, especially when she heard that to Isabella, she was like a mother...

She hadn't realized she was so important to Isabella.

She hadn't expected that she had raised Isabella with her own hands. No wonder she always felt Isabella's temperament was somewhat like her own from the past.

A dense, tangled pain pulled at Gwyneth's heart, and somehow, she even felt a bit guilty.

She reached out to wipe Isabella's tears. "I still can't remember the past, but I probably didn't want to abandon you. I left to come back and deal with the Powell family's affairs, but I didn't expect to forget everything after returning."

"Still, we master and disciple have been reunited, haven't we?" Gwyneth smiled. "You said you're an orphan, so from now on, the Powell family is your home."

Isabella looked at Gwyneth and nodded after pressing her lips together.

Just then, Ollie's voice suddenly rang out:

"Ms. Powell!"

Isabella and Gwyneth both looked over to see Ollie approaching.

His gaze first swept over Isabella with thick displeasure, then he bowed before Gwyneth. "Ms. Powell, I plan to resign from my position as deputy guard captain."

Gwyneth was startled by this. "Why?"

"Because..." Ollie hesitated, probably too embarrassed to say he'd lost a bet to Isabella.

So Isabella kindly said it for him, "Ollie made a bet with me. He lost, so he's voluntarily resigning from his position. He's here to keep his promise."

Hearing this, Gwyneth raised an eyebrow.

She looked at Ollie and said, "Looks like you still haven't changed your impulsive, rash nature."

Without even thinking, she knew Ollie must have been the one to start it.

Gwyneth sighed. "Are you sure you want to resign? Last year you worked so hard to win that position."

Ollie clenched his fists. Of course he was unwilling, but...

Isabella spoke up, "Gwyneth, Ollie made this bet in front of all the guards. Even if he doesn't resign, he's already lost their respect."

Gwyneth understood. She looked at Ollie and said, "In that case, you'll be demoted to an ordinary guard."

Ollie said nothing more. After bowing to Gwyneth, he left.

On the other side, Knox saw Ollie return and came forward to ask, "How did it go?"

"I've already submitted my resignation to Ms. Powell."

As soon as Ollie said this, the other guards began whispering among themselves, each with a hint of satisfaction in their eyes, because next there would definitely be a selection for the new deputy guard captain.

Ollie looked at the guards and snorted coldly. "I've fulfilled my bet and resigned. Are you satisfied now?"

"But I'd advise you not to get too cocky. I'll still participate in the next selection! If you don't have what it takes to win then, don't blame me!"
