Chapter 296 The Whispering Sect
Isabella watched Kismet's retreating figure, her expression darkening. She then turned her gaze to Ollie, "Looks like you're not just a dog, but a dog extremely loyal to Kismet."
Ollie's face changed dramatically, "You dare insult me one more time?"
Why did Isabella always act so recklessly in front of him?
In terms of status, he was at least the deputy head of security for the Powell family, while Isabella was just someone who shamelessly stayed at the Powell family to freeload!
"Why wouldn't I dare? You don't actually think you're that great, do you?" Isabella's eyes were full of mockery. "As the deputy head of security for the Powell family, you can't even beat me. I really don't know how you got to your current position. How dare you act so arrogant?"
"Who says I can't beat you..." Ollie was so angry he was about to strike.
"Enough, Ollie, stop making a scene," Yasmin couldn't help but say. "That is, if you don't want this to get to Gwyneth."
Hearing Gwyneth's name, Ollie finally backed down.
Yasmin turned to face Isabella and said, "Kismet had Ollie lock you up with the white tiger and stopped feeding it. Her intention was for the starving tiger in its frenzy period to eat you. She just didn't expect you and the white tiger to get along so well."
Isabella pulled at the corner of her mouth, "She sure knows how to scheme."
"Isabella, Kismet had her hand bitten off and has been upset about it. She's too obsessive and will probably hold a grudge against you. You should be more careful from now on."
That was all Yasmin could say.
"I know, thanks for the warning."
Isabella looked at this kind-faced girl. When Kismet shot her with that arrow, it was this girl who pressed on her wound to stop the bleeding and called people to take her to the hospital.
She seemed different from Kismet and the others.
"Your name is Yasmin? You're Wilder's granddaughter?"
Yasmin nodded, "Yes."
Isabella and Yasmin left the cave entrance together and walked toward the castle.
"Why did Gwyneth let you stay here?" Yasmin couldn't help asking. "Who are you?"
"I'm not from around here. Something Gwyneth lost is related to me, and someone I'm looking for might be related to her. So I'm staying here, waiting for Gwyneth to recover her memory."
Yasmin understood, "So you and Gwyneth might know each other?"
No wonder Gwyneth let her stay here.
Isabella shook her head, "I'm not sure either."
In her memory, she had never met Gwyneth, but her master and Gwyneth probably had a significant relationship.
"Then it seems we'll have to wait until Gwyneth recovers her memory to find out."
Isabella and Yasmin walked together for a while, but since their rooms were on opposite sides of the castle, they said goodbye halfway and went their separate ways.
Isabella stepped into the hall and saw Gwyneth still sitting in the main seat.
But someone was kneeling in front of her.
From the outfit, it looked like an assassin.
At first, Isabella thought the assassin was one of Gwyneth's people, until she saw Gwyneth's eyes change. Her pupils suddenly turned black like an abyss, like a whirlpool. Just one glance made Isabella feel dizzy.
That familiar feeling came again. Sure enough, the next second, the person in black was hypnotized and used the dagger in their hand to cut their own throat.
Blood sprayed everywhere.
Gwyneth returned to her usual expression and only then looked at Isabella. Seeing Isabella's shocked expression, Gwyneth said helplessly, "No choice. This is the one hundred and twenty-first person who tried to assassinate me."
Isabella: "..."
Soon someone dragged away the body of the person in black, and the floor was cleaned spotless, as if nothing had happened here.
Gwyneth pressed her temples, "Where did you go? Why are you only coming back now?"
"I went to see Pippa," Isabella answered honestly.
Just then, a cold wind blew. Before Isabella could see clearly, the masked man she'd seen before had already flashed from outside to Gwyneth's side, speaking very quickly: "Ms. Powell, there's news about Verity!"
Hearing this, Gwyneth's eyes suddenly lifted, and her hand resting on the armrest unconsciously clenched, "Where is she?"
"Someone said they saw her in Regal City, but we don't know if this information is true or false yet."
"We leave for Regal City the day after tomorrow."
"Yes."
Gwyneth murmured the name Verity, her face becoming ugly, with traces of hatred appearing in her eyes.
"Who is Verity?" Isabella asked.
Gwyneth glanced at Isabella. She didn't think it was inappropriate for her to ask, and just said coldly, "Verity is from The Whispering Sect, and she's the number one hypnotist."
"The number one hypnotist?" Isabella was curious. "Does that mean even your abilities don't rank first?"
She had always thought that since the Powell family was the head of the seven great families, Gwyneth, as the head of the Powell family, should be the most powerful person.
Gwyneth shook her head, "In terms of hypnosis, I'm not as good as Verity."
"The seven great families are just powerful because of their family backgrounds and close connections with the royal family, but that doesn't mean all the skilled ancient martial arts professionals and hypnotists are in the seven great families."
"Outside the families, there are many other forces and organizations. They don't serve any family, they're completely independent and form their own factions. Among them are many top ancient martial arts professionals and hypnotists. The Whispering Sect is a powerful organization led mainly by four top ancient martial arts professionals and two top hypnotists."
Isabella understood and looked at her thoughtfully, "So why are you looking for Verity?"
Gwyneth didn't answer her question but asked instead, "Aren't you curious why you've lived in this castle for so long but have never seen my parents?"
Isabella thought carefully, "Now that you mention it, that's true. So where are your parents?"
"Dead," Gwyneth said.
Isabella was stunned.
Gwyneth narrowed her eyes, lost in memory. "My father and mother were brutally murdered by people from The Whispering Sect."
"Four years ago, my father was still the head of the Powell family. The Grand Elder had a conflict with my father over profit distribution and conspired with people from The Whispering Sect. Together, they killed my parents."
"My father was an ancient martial arts professional with deep skills, my mother was also a very powerful hypnotist. Besides, the family had several elders with considerable abilities. But even so, the castle was ransacked by people from The Whispering Sect. My father died right where I'm sitting now, his hands and feet cut off, unable to rest in peace. My mother had her heart dug out by Verity from The Whispering Sect herself."
"That Verity has a disgusting habit. Everyone who dies at her hands has their heart removed, and Verity eats raw every heart she digs out with her own hands."
Isabella: "That's disgusting?"
