Chapter 277 Who Allowed You to Hit Her?
"That's impossible!" Bodhi denied without hesitation. "That's not what happened at all. My brother would never do something like that."
Gwyneth stopped looking at him and glanced at Knox instead. "You brought that Lumaria girl here too?"
Knox nodded. "Yes."
Gwyneth's expression darkened. "Who told you to bring her here?"
Knox replied, "It was Bodhi who insisted on a face-to-face confrontation. He kept insisting that the girl attacked first."
Gwyneth immediately sneered. "Knox, is your brain just for decoration?"
She was almost laughing from anger. Summoning the Whitley family here obviously wasn't about Damon getting beaten up - she wouldn't bother with such trivial matters.
The Whitley family's provocation was just an excuse. The real reason she had Knox bring Bodhi here was because the deaths of the three elders from the Jordan family might be connected to the Whitley family. She planned to probe around first.
Knox: "..."
Not understanding why Gwyneth was angry, Knox tried to explain, "That girl..."
"Take her back to wherever you brought her from," Gwyneth said irritably.
"Don't you want to meet her? Her version of how Damon got beaten is completely different from Bodhi's," Knox said.
Gwyneth was really struggling not to send Knox flying. "Why would I meet her? I'll say it one more time - take her back to wherever you brought her from!"
She really didn't understand how Knox's brain worked.
Knox thought for a moment. "Oh right, Ms. Powell, there's one more thing..."
He glanced at Bodhi, walked over to Gwyneth's side, and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, "We found a phoenix crest ring on that girl - it's from the Powell family."
Gwyneth's brow furrowed slightly.
"But the girl absolutely refuses to admit she stole the crest ring. She even says the ring belongs to her."
Gwyneth immediately instructed the butler Axel, "Go ask the elders if any of them lost a crest ring."
"Alright."
Axel immediately went to contact the elders.
Soon, Axel returned. "Ms. Powell, none of the elders have lost their crest rings."
Hearing this, Gwyneth narrowed her eyes, which darkened a few shades.
Although none of the elders had lost their rings, she had lost one herself.
Four years ago when she returned, she discovered her crest ring was missing.
Having lost her memory, she had no idea how she'd lost it, so she had to make a new one. She never told anyone else in the family about this...
"That's strange then." Hearing from Axel that no one had lost a ring, Knox was puzzled. "But I looked at that girl's crest ring, and it's definitely from the Powell family. How could this be?"
Gwyneth spoke up, "Knox, go bring her in!"
Knox nodded. "Okay."
Knox started walking out.
Gwyneth watched Knox's retreating figure, thought for a moment, then got up and followed him. As she passed Bodhi, she left him with a remark: "Bodhi, wait here. We'll discuss your Whitley family matters when I get back."
Bodhi didn't dare say anything, just watched as Gwyneth and Knox left.
——
Gwyneth followed Knox outside when suddenly a guard came running toward them, looking flustered.
"Knox, something's wrong! There's trouble at the gate!"
Seeing him, Knox frowned. "What happened? What's going on?"
"Ollie and that girl got into a fight at the gate. Ollie couldn't beat her, so he got everyone to gang up on her! I couldn't stop them - it's complete chaos at the gate!"
Knox's expression soured.
Getting a bunch of grown men to gang up on a girl? That was something Ollie would do?
"Didn't I say to let me ask Ms. Powell's opinion first? Why did he start fighting?"
The guard looked troubled. "Ollie was too impulsive. He couldn't take being talked back to and insisted on beating that girl to death!"
Knox was speechless. He turned to look at Gwyneth, somewhat embarrassed. "Ms. Powell, this..."
Gwyneth's face darkened as she said coldly, "What an embarrassment."
Then she strode forward quickly.
When Gwyneth and Knox reached the gate, they indeed saw complete chaos.
A group of guards, including Ollie, had set their guns aside and were bare-handedly fighting with a girl.
Ollie, his face bruised and swollen, shouted angrily, "She just said all of us together aren't a match for her! What are you all standing around for? Attack! Everyone attack!"
To recover his lost dignity, Ollie led a group charging at Isabella with teeth bared and claws out.
Isabella grabbed one person's arm and threw him like a sandbag, knocking down a group. Then with a 180-degree spinning kick, she swept down a large swath of people.
The Powell family guards were sent flying one after another - some lay on the ground unable to get up, others knocked out cold.
Ollie's eyes turned red with rage. While Isabella was tangled up with others, he gathered his strength and struck toward Isabella's back with tremendous force.
Isabella sensed the danger behind her, forcefully shook off the person in front of her, and turned to look back.
It was at this angle that Gwyneth finally saw Isabella's face clearly.
Gwyneth's pupils contracted in shock. Then she saw Ollie attacking Isabella. Her expression darkened as she flew over, intercepting Ollie mid-strike and backhanding him with a resounding slap across the face.
Ollie was completely stunned by this sudden slap.
When he saw Gwyneth's face clearly, his own face immediately turned pale.
"Ms. Powell..."
He looked at Gwyneth in disbelief, not knowing when she had appeared.
Gwyneth said nothing and slapped him again.
This time it left Ollie's face bright red.
Gwyneth's expression was extremely ugly. "Who gave you permission to hit her? Ollie, do you have a death wish?"
Ollie's face turned deathly pale. He immediately dropped to his knees, pointing at Isabella. "Ms. Powell, she stole our Powell family's crest ring and won't admit it. She's a thief! I was just teaching her a lesson!"
Ollie didn't understand - he was dealing with a thief who stole something, wasn't that perfectly reasonable? Why would Gwyneth personally intervene and be so angry?
Gwyneth stared coldly at Ollie and took a deep breath.
She didn't know why she was so angry either. Just now when she saw Isabella's face, she almost thought she was seeing herself, because Isabella looked so much like her.
So she had instinctively lost her temper.
Gwyneth clenched her fists, forcing herself to calm down and return to her usual cold expression. "Ollie, who taught you to have guards brawling at the gate?"
Ollie guiltily lowered his head.
Earlier, Isabella had beaten him up, and he really couldn't swallow that humiliation. Plus, when Isabella saw them pointing guns at her, she had the audacity to say that if it came to hand-to-hand combat, everyone here combined wouldn't be her match.
He just couldn't stand her being so arrogant, so he went along with her suggestion and had everyone put down their guns and attack together. He didn't believe that with so many of them, they still wouldn't be a match for her.
