Chapter 264 Auction
Before long, the car stopped in front of a three-story building.
"We're here."
Rosalind pointed at the building. "This is our destination. The auction is being held here."
They got out of the car and followed Rosalind inside.
This three-story building was in Lumaria's vintage architectural style. From the outside, it looked like a café, tucked away in a secluded corner at the end of the street. Although it was far from the busy areas, there were quite a few people coming and going.
Walking in, the place was packed.
A crowd of people enthusiastically surrounded a fighting ring, cheering and clapping. It was quite lively.
"This is an arena," Rosalind introduced. "In Novaria, arenas are as common as cafés in your Lumaria. They're recreational spots, scattered throughout streets big and small."
"In the arena, people can spar freely, and spectators can place bets on who will win."
Isabella ran over to watch the action at the ring.
Seeing this, Alton's face immediately darkened as he followed her. "Ms. Taylor, this place is full of all sorts of people. Can you please not run around everywhere? If you cause trouble again, I'll be the one who suffers in the end."
Isabella raised an eyebrow. "When have I ever caused trouble?"
"What about at the Waverly family's castle? If you hadn't wandered around and gotten caught on the surveillance cameras, Ms. Waverly wouldn't have suspected you, and she wouldn't have hit you!" Alton said indignantly. "That slap I took was because of you!"
He found Isabella more and more irritating.
A woman with no real abilities who always liked to run around everywhere. Couldn't she just stay put?
When something went wrong, wouldn't he still have to protect her?
Isabella found this somewhat amusing. "I didn't ask you to take that slap for me. You were the one who insisted on doing that."
"What did you say?"
Alton's expression changed immediately when he heard this. "What do you mean 'insisted on doing that'?"
"I saved your life!"
Isabella glanced at him dismissively and said nonchalantly, "I know how to dodge. Was it really necessary for you to take that slap?"
"You dodge?" Alton laughed. "You think you could have dodged it?"
Seraphina's speed was already far beyond normal people. A dull, stupid woman like Isabella could only stand there and get slapped to death!
Isabella couldn't be bothered with him. She simply walked around Alton and squeezed into the crowd to place a bet.
Alton stared hard at Isabella's back, fuming with anger.
——
Isabella pointed at the handsome man on the left side of the ring, who had narrow eyes and peach-blossom-shaped eyes, and threw down a stack of bills. "I'm betting on him to win!"
Seeing such a large stack of bills thrown down, but betting on the man on the left to win, everyone was stunned.
"Did you bet on the wrong person?"
"Wrong person?" Isabella blinked. "I don't think so? I'm betting on the one on the left to win?"
A middle-aged man, seeing her innocent look, kindly advised her, "You should bet on the tough guy on the right to win. Eddy Bowers is from the Bowers family, one of the thirty-six noble families. In this arena, he's the undisputed undefeated champion!"
"Undefeated champion?" Isabella touched her chin and muttered quietly, "But I feel like the one on the left is stronger."
People around her clicked their tongues. "Look at how weak he looks. How could he possibly beat Eddy!"
Isabella looked carefully at the man on the stage.
The man wore a purple casual outfit with his long hair tied up. His figure was slender, and his pale face showed a kind of sickly beauty. Combined with those peach-blossom eyes that were naturally upturned and slightly red at the corners, there was something feminine and alluring about him.
But Isabella felt this was just appearance. She sensed that this purple-clothed man had an untamed quality in his bearing—a quality that only belonged to the strong.
"I'm betting on him to win." Isabella trusted her instincts and even put down another stack of money. "I believe he will definitely win."
As soon as she finished speaking, Isabella heard the purple-clothed man on stage laugh.
The purple-clothed man raised his eyebrows, looked at her with his brilliant peach-blossom eyes, and smiled alluringly. "Among all these people, you're the only one who gets it."
"Enough talk!"
Eddy on stage shouted.
Where did this person come from, daring to challenge him?
Really asking for trouble.
"The match begins!"
Eddy couldn't wait to swing his fist at the purple-clothed man.
"Eddy! Eddy!"
People below the stage shouted excitedly.
Eddy looked at the purple-clothed man standing there motionless, his eyes full of certainty of victory.
However, the next second, the purple-clothed man slightly raised his hand and stopped his fist with just two fingers.
The purple-clothed man smiled charmingly, turned his wrist, and in an instant, sent Eddy flying off the ring.
Before the crowd could see what happened, they only saw Eddy being thrown out and landing in the crowd.
Everyone below was stunned. "So... so amazing..."
"He defeated Eddy in just one move!"
"How is this possible? Who is he? How can he have such power?"
"..."
After throwing Eddy off the ring, the purple-clothed man chuckled and eagerly searched for Isabella, only to see her leaving with her winnings without even looking at him again.
The purple-clothed man: "..."
The purple-clothed man walked out of the arena.
An elderly man approached. "Mr. Powell, your sister's headache has returned."
Hearing this, the purple-clothed man furrowed his brow. "I see. I'll go back now."
——
Because most people bet on Eddy to win, Isabella won tens of thousands of dollars from this round.
"How did you know that purple-clothed man would win?" William looked at her curiously.
Isabella shook her head. "I don't know. It was just a gut feeling."
"The auction is about to start. Let's go up," Rosalind said.
The auction wasn't on the first floor, but on the second.
As they went upstairs, they saw the entrance to the auction hall.
Two guards stood at the entrance.
One of them clearly recognized Rosalind. Seeing her, he nodded. "Ms. Waverly."
"I'm bringing a few friends in," Rosalind said.
"Of course. Please go ahead."
Almost everyone attending the auction was from the thirty-six noble families. It was quite rare to see someone like Rosalind bringing friends.
Rosalind had already obtained the auction list in advance and reminded William, "The antiviral agent you need is number 12."
Shortly after they sat down, the auction officially began.
The first item was actually a flower.
Someone bought this flower for one million dollars.
The items being auctioned here were all sorts of strange things.
Soon it was number 12's turn—the antiviral agent they needed.
The auctioneer placed a silver briefcase on the auction table.
Because this type of antiviral agent needed to be stored in a refrigerated environment, this silver briefcase probably had refrigeration capabilities.
The Edra virus wasn't rare in Novaria, and the infection rate was higher than in Lumaria, so the auctioneer didn't give much introduction and went straight to the bidding.
Someone called out: "Five hundred thousand dollars."
