Chapter 218 Isabella Just Died Like That
"Rhys!"
Just then, Tate shouted loudly in Rhys's direction.
He clearly saw Isabella remove Rhys's mask. His expression changed immediately, and without hesitation, he pulled out a silver handgun.
The bullet shot rapidly toward Isabella.
Isabella naturally heard the gunshot behind her and her eyes flew wide open.
However, the expected impact didn't happen.
Tate's right hand had been broken by Isabella earlier, and his left-handed aim was off. The bullet grazed past Isabella's hair and ended up hitting a tree nearby.
Isabella immediately slid behind the tree without hesitation.
Sure enough, the next second, another bullet hit the spot where she had just been standing.
Isabella turned and ran into the dense forest.
Tate, frantic with anxiety, fired several more shots at Isabella.
The forest was full of trees for cover. Isabella moved like a swallow, and Tate didn't hit her once.
It wasn't until Isabella's figure completely disappeared in the distance that Tate cursed angrily.
"She saw Rhys's face!"
This problem was even more serious than a failed mission.
By firing his gun, he had already broken Lumaria's laws. The police were definitely on their way here now, and Lumaria would certainly issue an arrest warrant for anyone carrying a gun.
Isabella had seen Rhys's face. It was only a matter of time before the Lumaria police tracked them down.
Milo panicked too. "Tate, what do we do now?"
"Run! The Lumaria police will be here any minute."
The three of them fled down the mountain in a mess.
——
Students who were closer to the summit all heard the commotion at the top.
"What was that sound?"
"Sounded like gunshots."
"How is that possible? We must have heard wrong, right? How could there be gunshots here?"
The student had barely finished speaking.
Another gunshot rang out.
Then.
One gunshot after another.
The group of students was instantly shocked.
"Someone's shooting at the summit!" a male student shouted.
"Quick, call the police!"
"Ms. Nguyen! We think we just heard gunshots!"
Students started making phone calls and reporting to the police.
When the teachers heard the news, they were all somewhat shocked. They quickly contacted the police and sent messages in the group chat telling all students to immediately gather at the bottom of the mountain and stop climbing.
The students were alarmed and immediately rushed down from all directions toward the foot of the mountain.
Before long, several police cars pulled up at the base of the mountain.
"What's the situation?"
"Stellar High School organized a student mountain climbing trip today. Just now, students reported hearing gunshots from the summit," said a staff member from the scenic area.
Upon hearing this, the police immediately organized a team to head up the mountain.
On the other side, Violet called Hannah in a panic. "Ms. Nguyen, Isabella went toward the summit earlier! She should still be at the top now!"
When Hannah heard that Isabella was at the summit, her face turned pale with fear that something might have happened to her. She immediately reported this to the police.
The officer responded right away, "Okay! We'll keep an eye out for that student."
"If there really is an armed person nearby, it's very dangerous. You need to get the students on the buses and leave here immediately. Don't stay any longer!"
"But some students haven't made it down the mountain yet."
"Then arrange for the other students to leave first. We'll send people to help the other students, and we need you to stay and check the student roster to make sure every student evacuates safely!"
"Okay!"
The teachers immediately made emergency arrangements to evacuate the students at the foot of the mountain.
Meanwhile, the student group chat exploded.
Some people were completely confused and had no idea what was happening.
[What's going on? Why are the police here?]
[Someone heard gunshots from the summit!]
[Really?]
[That's so dangerous! Why would there be gunshots at the summit?]
This sudden incident sparked heated discussion in the student group, and naturally, the news spread to the school forum.
Instantly, the entire school's attention was drawn.
The international class students had just finished their activities and were preparing to leave the beach in an orderly manner when suddenly someone in the crowd saw a trending post on the forum and exclaimed:
"What! The regular class went mountain climbing today, and there was a shooting incident at the summit!"
Everyone was shocked.
"How could this happen? Does it involve our school's students?"
"Don't know, but apparently a girl who climbed to the summit is missing and hasn't been found yet."
"Could something have happened to her?"
"The gunshots came from the summit, so there's a good chance that girl was harmed."
"Have they found the body?"
"Don't know. The police are searching now."
"..."
Bianca stood in the crowd, listening to everyone's discussion, and the corners of her lips curved up.
She could hardly believe that Isabella had died just like that.
How wonderful.
She just hadn't expected those people to make such a big deal out of it.
Killing an Isabella, and they actually fired guns.
Was it really necessary?
——
Isabella emerged from the forest and walked down the mountain path.
She hadn't gone far when she ran into a team of uniformed police officers heading up to the summit.
When the police saw her, they quickly asked, "Are you Isabella?"
This location was already very close to the summit. The teacher had mentioned that a female student named Isabella was at the top, so they naturally thought the girl in front of them was Isabella.
Isabella glanced at the officers. "I am."
"Did you reach the summit?"
"I did."
The police quickly asked, "What happened at the summit? Someone reported hearing gunshots!"
"That's right. There was indeed someone shooting at the summit," Isabella stated matter-of-factly.
"You saw it?" the officer asked in disbelief.
"I saw it."
As the target of the shooting, Isabella responded to the police's inquiry with an expressionless face, "They wanted to kill me, but they didn't succeed."
The police were taken aback.
Even though this was such a serious matter as attempted murder with a gun, why did Isabella's tone make it sound like it was no big deal?
One of the officers asked her, "Someone shot at you, and you weren't scared?"
"I was scared," Isabella said flatly. "That's why I ran away quickly, didn't I?"
If those people had been unarmed, Isabella might have been able to handle them, but they started shooting without a word. How could she fight that?
The police: "..."
Thinking about Isabella's leisurely pace coming down the mountain just now, they couldn't really see how "quickly" she had moved.
The lead officer said to one of the other officers, "You take her down the mountain first and get her statement. I'll go up and check the situation."
"Yes, sir."
"You'd better be careful," Isabella reminded them. "There were three of them in total, and we're not sure if they've come down the mountain yet."
"Got it. We'll be careful. You should hurry down the mountain too and don't stay here."
