Chapter 155 You Are My Little Fox
And it's not just the surgery fees that are expensive, there's also the surgeon's payment.
Now brain tumor patients across the country are trying to find out where that surgeon is. Without giving some gifts, there's no way to get him to perform the surgery.
Isabella had to plan ahead.
Based on her understanding of the Taylor Family, if she asked Hayden for money for Jessa's surgery, he probably wouldn't give it.
Isabella planned to find someone knowledgeable to sell the vase and jade bracelet. After all, she couldn't use them for flowers or wear them.
Joseph said the vase and jade bracelet were family heirlooms, but she naturally didn't believe him. He was obviously bluffing—as if family heirlooms would be casually given to her. But they did look quite valuable.
Holding the vase, Isabella thought of William.
William should know people in that area who could help her.
She clicked on William's profile and carefully sent a message: "Do you know any antique experts? I want to sell a vase and a jade bracelet."
Soon, William replied: "Joseph's?"
Isabella was surprised. "How did you know?"
Sitting in his office, William's lips curved up slightly. "He just called me crying about it."
Isabella: "..."
Isabella held her phone. "What did he tell you?"
"He said you were cunning, tricked him out of his vase and jade bracelet, and wants me to compensate him for emotional distress."
"Who tricked him?" Isabella was speechless. How could he twist things around like this?
"Besides, if there's a score to settle, I'm the one who took his things. Why is he asking you for compensation?"
"What do you think?"
Isabella didn't know.
"Because he said you're my little fox, and I have to pay your debts."
My little fox.
Looking at these words, Isabella's ears inexplicably turned red.
"You're lying. How could Joseph say something like that? That's too..."
"Too what?"
Isabella went silent.
After a while, she frowned and typed quickly on her phone: "Tell him, fair is fair. Don't give him any compensation. He already got Cillian's jade pendant, and now he wants compensation from you?"
Just an old schemer.
William sat at his desk and laughed. "Okay, I won't."
Actually, Joseph hadn't said Isabella was his little fox. Joseph only said Isabella played chess like a fox—too cunning. But between the lines, he was still asking for compensation.
Nearby, David clearly saw William texting, and in just a few minutes, he smiled several times, almost laughing out loud. It was obvious who William was messaging.
David was curious.
Weren't they talking about breaking up just a few days ago?
Now they're back together?
He really didn't understand young couples.
Just then, William suddenly put down his phone and asked him: "That antique shop owner who bought paintings from me last time, what was his name?"
David thought for a moment. "You mean Lachlan Everest?"
"Right." William nodded. "Tell him I have a vase and a jade bracelet to sell. Have him come to... my house to take a look."
David raised his eyebrows in disbelief. "To your home?"
William always kept his private life private and would never invite people to his house for business.
Just selling two items, nothing major, yet he was specifically inviting someone to his house?
William didn't explain, just replied calmly: "Yes, we'll do the transaction at my house."
After arranging everything, William messaged Isabella again.
"I've arranged for an antique dealer to come to my house. Send me your address and I'll pick you up."
"Okay, I'll wait for you at the Cultural Center entrance."
Isabella hadn't expected William to act so quickly. She'd just asked him, and he was already coming to get her.
William replied: "Don't just stand outside waiting. There's a coffee shop on the first floor of the Cultural Center. Go inside and get something to drink."
"Okay."
Half an hour later, Isabella received William's call and came out of the coffee shop.
It was getting late, right during rush hour, with traffic flowing on the roads.
William's car was parked by the roadside.
Isabella walked over and sat in the back seat, next to William.
"Aren't you working?" Isabella was quite curious—he seemed so free, coming over as soon as she asked.
William didn't answer her question, but asked instead: "The vase and jade bracelet both look quite exquisite. Don't you want to keep them?"
Isabella told him honestly: "I don't need these fancy things. I just want to cash them in."
"Cash in?"
William glanced at her. "You need money?"
"I'm a bit short on money."
She didn't know how much it would take to get that doctor, so she could only save as much as possible.
William pulled out a card from his wallet and gave it to her. "If you need money, just use mine."
He remembered something and asked: "Last time I told you, if you need clothes, just go to the mall and get them, but you've never gone even once?"
"I have enough clothes." Isabella glanced at the card he handed over but didn't take it. "William, I won't spend your money. Please take the card back."
William narrowed his eyes. "Why not?"
"There's no reason I should spend your money."
William's hand holding the card paused.
After a while, he put the card away, his brow furrowing.
No reason?
Did she feel their relationship wasn't close enough, or did she not want to owe him?
"Isabella, have you forgotten what happened in the car that day?"
William's sudden question.
Isabella's eyelashes trembled.
What happened in the car that day?
He meant kissing her...
"There's every reason. We've already kissed, and it's natural for a man to spend money on his woman."
"So, Isabella, there's every reason for you to spend my money."
"I..." Isabella blinked. She seemed a bit convinced by his logic.
But she quickly came to her senses and shook her head. "William, I really don't want to spend your money."
"So what if you do?" William turned his head, his eyes fixed on her.
Isabella froze.
Looking at William, she felt like he was angry.
Isabella thought for a moment, then reached out and gently pulled the card from his palm, saying softly: "Don't be angry. I'll take it, okay?"
William looked at her obedient manner, and his irritation instantly smoothed out.
The black car slowly entered an area full of greenery.
It was very quiet all around, with few pedestrians on the beautiful, spacious streets, and very few cars.
The car drove through a tall iron gate, circled around a fountain, and slowly entered the garage.
Coming out of the garage and turning left was the villa entrance.
William took Isabella's hand. "Let's go."
This was an exceptionally luxurious villa. The marble floor at the entrance was spotlessly clean.
As they walked, servants looked her way, their eyes full of curiosity.
