Chapter 106 Coveting the Family Property
"Dad, I didn't do anything. Zephyr just doesn't want to admit it. He can't wait for Violet to break up with me!"
"Finnian, don't you know what kind of person Charles is? He's an honest kid. How could he possibly do anything to hurt Violet?"
"If you ask me, the Cooper Family just looks down on us now. Their factory business has been getting better and better over the years, and now Violet's doing well too. They don't think we're good enough for them anymore..."
As Freya spoke, she started wiping away tears.
Years of bitterness and grievances came flooding out all at once.
Finnian's hands gripped the armrests of his wheelchair, trembling bit by bit.
"How dare she look down on you! Back then, if it weren't for me..."
Thinking about all these years sitting in a wheelchair, barely alive, Finnian's eyes gradually turned cold and venomous. "If it weren't for me, where would the Cooper Family be today? Violet might have died long ago!"
"And now she thinks my son isn't good enough for her!"
Finnian spat viciously.
"Ungrateful bastards!"
Seeing that his parents no longer suspected him, Charles secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Dad, what do we do now? Do I really have to break up with Violet?" Charles said tearfully. "But I can't bear to let her go. All these years, I've given in to her and pampered her in everything. I never thought she'd break up with me..."
Seeing Charles looking so devoted, Finnian felt both heartbroken and angry. "You're pathetic. She doesn't care about you anymore, and you're still hung up on her!"
"Finnian, you lost a leg saving Zephyr back then. Our family has sacrificed so much for the Cooper Family, and now they turn their backs on us..." Freya wiped her tears. "What are we going to do?"
"Tomorrow I'm going to find Zephyr!" Finnian's face was dark, his teeth clenched. "The Cooper Family owes me, and they can never repay it! His factory belongs to us, the Green Family. His daughter belongs to us, the Green Family too!"
"If he refuses, I'll fight him to the bitter end. I'll let everyone know how the Cooper Family broke their word. I'll make sure his factory can't stay open, and his daughter can't get married!"
Charles nodded. "Dad, you're right. The Cooper Family owes our family. Everything the Cooper Family has today belongs to us. He can't just kick us aside!"
After returning to school, Charles cornered Violet at the bottom of the dorm building.
At that moment, Isabella and Violet had just finished dinner and were about to head back to the dorm to rest.
"Violet, I'm giving you one last chance."
Charles faced Violet, his expression tense. "Now both our parents know about us breaking up."
"If it weren't for my family back then, where would your dad be? Where would you be? Our relationship involves interests. It's not something you can just break off because you want to."
"Violet, just stay with me properly. After graduation, we'll get engaged and married as planned. Isn't that good?"
Violet clenched her fingers.
She wanted to hold back, but still couldn't help letting out a cold laugh.
"You mean, even if you cheated, I still have to be devoted to you and can't break up with you, is that it?"
Violet practically spat out the word "cheated" through gritted teeth.
"When did I cheat?" Charles said furiously. "Violet, you can't accuse me of cheating just because I didn't go sightseeing with you!"
"I shouldn't have lied to you, but I explained it to you. I brought Juniper along to help me pick out a gift for you. You should be grateful that she was willing to help me choose a gift for you, not suspect us."
Violet took a deep breath. She stared hard at the person in front of her, unable to imagine how he could be this shameless.
"Charles, I thought we just needed to break up and that would be it. I didn't expect anything else, but now... even breaking up isn't allowed?"
Seeing her talk about breaking up over and over, Charles suddenly flew into a rage and said sternly:
"Violet, you want to break up? Fine! Your family's factory has to go to me, and you have to compensate for the loss of my dad's leg. The compensation has to be enough for our family to live on for the rest of our lives. After all, my dad ended up like this because of your dad."
"You can't just take the benefits and turn your backs on us!"
"As long as you can meet these conditions, I can break up with you and won't force you to marry me. Otherwise, you must marry me!"
Hearing this, Violet froze.
She looked at Charles in disbelief, realizing belatedly, "So the reason you won't break up is because of my dad's factory?"
She had thought Charles was so persistent only because he couldn't accept the end of their years-long relationship.
But it turned out...
What Charles couldn't bear to give up wasn't the relationship, wasn't her, but the Cooper Family's assets.
She remembered that recently Zephyr had told her that after she and Charles got engaged, he planned to have Charles come work at the factory and gradually train him to take over. At the time, she hadn't understood what Zephyr meant...
So as long as Charles married her, he could naturally take over the factory from Zephyr.
So Charles's feelings for her had never been pure.
In an instant, Violet felt an indescribable sadness.
Years of dating turned out to be nothing but bubbles.
Looking at the ugly, unfamiliar face before her, Violet couldn't muster even a shred of affection anymore. All she felt was disgust.
"You won't break up because you want my family's assets?" Violet coldly pulled at the corner of her mouth. "Don't worry, I won't let you have your way."
"You..." Charles looked at Violet's resolute back, his face red with anger. "Violet! You really don't know what's good for you!"
How could she... be so arrogant!
She owed the Green Family, and yet she dared to be so self-righteous.
She deserved to die.
Charles's face darkened. He clenched his fists and pulled out his phone. "Dad, Violet won't agree to my conditions. Let's make her suffer."
——
The next morning.
Isabella and Violet were walking toward the classroom building when they saw a crowd gathered at the bottom, bustling and unusually lively.
"What's happening over there?"
"Go, go, there's a show to watch. Charles's dad came to school!"
"What's Charles's dad doing at school?"
"You don't know? I heard the Cooper Family owes the Green Family a life. They agreed back then that the two families would marry in the future, but now Violet wants to break up with Charles! Charles's dad doesn't agree, so he came to school!"
Hearing the surrounding discussions, Violet's heart sank.
She quickened her pace, and as she got closer, sure enough, she saw Finnian sitting in a wheelchair!
Finnian saw her too, and his eyes immediately turned cold.
He desperately maneuvered his wheelchair toward Violet. Coming before her, his face full of anger and his tone harsh, he said, "You ungrateful thing! I must have been blind back then to save your father! You're just as ungrateful as him!"
