Chapter 86
When Scarlet saw what the Singh’s courtyard looked like, she wasn’t surprised, as she had long seen it in pictures and videos which the brothers and her cousin Nova always sent. They claimed that one day, she will come here and need to familiarize herself.
“Scarlet, your brothers will take you to your family’s courtyard. You can live in that house with your brothers,” Old Mrs Singh said as she looked at Scarlet reluctantly.
How could Scarlet not know what was going on in the old woman’s head?
“And why will Aunt be staying?” she asked.
“She is our youngest child, so she will be living with us in the main courtyard, but she has her own courtyard. She can decide where she wants to live. Scar, will you accompany your aunt to live with us?” the old woman asked, making Scarlet smile as she thought that her grandmother was surely impatient.
She had long noticed that her grandma wanted her to live with them, but was afraid that she would reject them.
“Okay. I will be going back cause of school in a week, let me spend some time with you and Gramps. In the future, when I settle here, I will live in our family’s courtyard,” Scarlet said, making Old Mrs Singh’s eyes light up as she had not expected the latter to agree. She had thought that Scarlet would refuse and claim that she wanted to live in their courtyard, as that was where her mother lived.
“Then let’s go. Your friends have been shown the guest quarters and will be living there during this period. After resting, you can go look for them,” Old Mr Singh said. He had to admit that Scarlet had gotten herself precious friends who loved her so much. Even their families were willing to protect her.
After hearing his daughter’s death, he had been worried about Scarlet and Sophia as they would be going back cause Scarlet had school. He knew that it would be difficult for Scarlet to change schools in her last year of high school; thus, they had discussed and decided that she would come back to America after she finished high school.
He had thought that they didn’t have anyone backing them or looking after them, but after they landed there and saw how they were surrounded by those three families, he felt warm, and the worry started to fade. He had seen how they had worked to make sure they were comfortable during their stay in Country A. He could also tell that they weren’t pretending or doing all that cause they wanted to get close to them.
They had even saved Scarlet and Sophia, treated them better than Scarlet’s godparents, Sophia’s teachers, and even the Jenkins. They were good people to spend time with. He had spoken to the family's old men, and they got along quite well. He wanted his granddaughter to cultivate a good relationship with those families so that they could never let them be alone.
“Okay, grandpa,” Scarlet said as she followed them with her backpack on her back. She had not carried any outfit as her brothers had told her that they had arranged enough outfits for her.
“This was your mother’s room when she was little and growing up. After our little princess, we kept her room,” Old Mrs Singh said as they walked in her eyes full of longing and reluctance.
Scarlet didn’t like seeing them like that, as they also made her think of her mother.
“Grandma, mother is safe where she is. She doesn’t need to run for her life anymore, and with fear that something might happen to the family cause of her. Grandma, don’t be sad,” she said as she patted her grandmother’s back.
Old Mrs Singh glanced at her, thinking of how mature she was, and sighed, as to her, Scarlet had been forced by the circumstances to mature up.
“We haven’t changed anything, but it is always cleaned when the other rooms are being cleaned. We asked the butler to buy some outfits according to the sizes Martin had sent before we left, so you have clothes to wear in the closet. I hope that you will be comfortable here,” Old Mrs Singh said as she looked around before turning to Scarlet.
“Scar, from this moment, this room belongs to you. You can change whatever you aren’t comfortable with, buy whatever you want to renovate the room, or even change the paint if it isn’t to your taste. No one will blame you,” Old Mrs Singh said, and Scarlet shook her head as she tried her best to prevent tears from falling down.
“Grandma, it's okay. I love the room so much. It reminds me of mommy. I want to stay here,” Scarlet said as she wiped the tears that had escaped with a white handkerchief.
“Okay, child. I will leave now so that you can rest. Someone will come and wake you up when the dinner is ready,” Old Mrs Singh said as her eyes blinked, as she didn’t want to shed tears in front of her granddaughter. She was in pain cause of losing her daughter, but what about the child? She understood too well the pain of losing a parent, but she didn’t know how painful it was for a child to lose her mother, who had always protected her.
“Okay, grandmother,” Scarlet said as she escorted her out of the room.
After closing the door, Scarlet leaned on the door and stared at the room blankly. This room was so identical to her mother’s room at the Jenkins. She suspected that her mother missed home so much that she had renovated her room to resemble her room at home.
Cause of this, Scarlet felt a sense of belonging and love in this room. At the same time, it was a ticking bomb as she reminded her that her mother wasn’t present and what she had done to her.
“Mother, we are back,” she murmured as she stared at her mother’s portrait on the wall.
She was stunned when she saw the next photo, as it was her photo, then next, a photo of her when she was a kid with her mother, and the last one was a photo of her with her family (her mother and brothers). She frowned as she couldn’t understand why her mother never told her who they were. She had always called them uncles, thinking that they were the children of her mother’s best friend.
“I will make everything right. I promise and hope you forgive me,” Scarlet said as her gaze turned to her mother’s portrait.
She then walked to the study desk that was in the room and started unpacking her backpack. She took out some blank papers and a notebook and started writing the names of the people she recalled would be famous in the future.
As she was writing the names, she recalled that she had signed a contract on the film and immediately called the director, as she wanted to talk to her about it.
“Hello, Miss Jenkins,” the director greeted Scarlet immediately after the call was connected respectfully.
On Sunday, she had just thought that Scarlet’s mother was part of the Singh's branch family, but when Shanaya’s real identity was revealed, they were shocked. They were happy that they had connected with such a person, but when it was revealed that they won’t be working for six months, the excitement faded.
They had three members of the Singh family filming. They had wanted to call Scarlet to ask her what would happen next, as she was also the investor, but they were afraid that they would be disturbing her with everything that was going on. They knew that no investor could give them so much money as Scarlet had, but they disagreed on whether to return the money to her, look for another investor, or wait for six months before filming.
She never expected Scarlet would call them after landing. Yes, they were following the Singhs’ news very closely and knew even when they had landed. Thirty minutes had not passed yet.
“I know that you have seen the news. What have you guys decided?” Scarlet asked, going directly to the point, stunning Matilda.
“Miss Jenkins, what do you want to do? You are the investor,” Matilda said, throwing the ball back to Scarlet, making Scarlet chuckle.
“I have two suggestions. One, I might ask my brother to help me get two international actors from his company to replace them, and the film to start next week. But only if you agree to join my company. I plan on opening an entertainment company this week if nothing goes wrong. All your works, the company will be investing, and also, the actors acting will first be chosen from the company before the actors can be chosen,” Scarlet said, then kept quiet, wanting Matilda to first process what she had said.
“Second, I pay all the damages caused by what is going on. There is also the contract termination fee, but when we pay, we won’t introduce people to replace my brother and cousin. I will continue investing, and Eveline and Samantha will continue acting in the film. What do you think?” Scarlet asked as she tapped the desk softly, but to Matilda, who could hear it, it sounded like a countdown for her to make the decision, causing her heart to beat fast as she thought of what decision to make.
