Chapter 39: Leave It to You
"You have no idea how much work this took - it took me forever to figure this out."
York complained, "I had someone tail him and found out he was in contact with people from a rival company. Then I had to spend a bunch of money wining and dining people before I could get them to spill the beans."
To do all this in such a short time, York's work efficiency was pretty impressive.
I pulled out my phone and transferred him a hundred thousand dollars right away.
When York saw the transfer notification, his eyes went wide.
"Wait, Ms. Lockwood, is this a tip for me?"
I couldn't help but laugh at his words. "This is what you deserve. You saved the company from such a huge loss. After this is all wrapped up, I'll make sure the company recognizes your contribution."
"Thank you, Ms. Lockwood. I promise from now on, I'll follow your lead completely and do whatever you say."
York nodded respectfully as he spoke. "Ms. Lockwood, just let me know if you need anything else."
I smiled slightly. "Take your evidence and go see my father."
"Got it!"
After Henry heard my conversation with York, his expression immediately turned serious.
"Notify security to bring Caleb here."
"Yes, sir."
Shortly after York left, a whole group of people came in escorting Caleb.
Seeing this scene, Caleb looked confused. "Mr. Lockwood, what's going on? Look at all these people - they practically dragged me here. What's this about?"
"Don't you know what you've done?"
Caleb frowned. "What? I haven't done anything."
"Show him," Henry said, giving York a look.
York stepped forward and showed the list on his phone. "Did you contact these people or not?"
Caleb's face changed instantly.
But he still stubbornly tried to deny it. "No, where did you get that? Are you trying to frame me?"
York sneered. "I didn't say what these people do, so how do you know it's framing? Looks like you do know these people after all. Come clean about what you did, or we're sending you to the police."
"Who are you trying to scare? What did I do that you'd send me to the police? You think I'm that easy to intimidate?" Caleb shouted defiantly.
"Looks like you don't want to talk."
Henry looked sternly at Caleb. "I was going to let you off easy for Willow's sake, but if you won't tell the truth, then off to the police you go."
With that, Henry waved his hand, and the security guards quickly dragged Caleb out.
As he was being dragged away, Caleb yelled, "You're bullying me! I'm telling my aunt! Just you wait!"
Soon, the voice faded. I looked at Henry. "Dad, what do we do next?"
Henry glanced at the list in York's hand. "It's fine, you two go back to work. I'll have someone keep an eye on the workshop."
I nodded and left with York.
"I really have to thank you for today."
York grinned at my words. "Ms. Lockwood, you already thanked me once. Why again?"
I smiled. "You saved the company from such a huge loss - of course, I need to thank you. Don't worry, after this is over, I'll have my father reward you."
"That's great."
I had just gotten back to my office when I heard a commotion outside. Lyndon rushed in, his face pale. "Helena, something's wrong with Mr. Lancaster's shipment!"
"What? What happened?"
I stood up in surprise and headed out while asking, "What's going on? Tell me quickly."
"Mr. Lancaster's first batch of goods has been produced, but there's a problem with the storage warehouse - the whole batch got water damaged."
My heart sank. What a coincidence - we just caught a mole today, and now this happens. Doesn't it seem like someone did this on purpose?
When we got to the warehouse, workers were moving goods out of the warehouse.
But the wet floor showed that the goods were indeed ruined.
"These are precision instruments. Once they get soaked, they're completely ruined."
Lyndon looked miserable, with the production department managers standing behind him, all looking dejected.
I walked over and opened one of the boxes. Inside was full of moisture, and the contents clearly couldn't be used anymore.
"What happened?"
Just then, Henry arrived. Seeing this scene, his face darkened.
"It rained, and the warehouse had no protective measures?"
Seeing Henry angry, the managers hung their heads low, none daring to speak.
I turned to the production manager. "Count the losses and come up with a recovery plan. Fast - I need it today."
"Yes!"
Soon, the inventory was done. The entire first batch was ruined - a direct loss of tens of millions of dollars.
Everyone looked anxious, their eyes turning to Henry.
"Meeting."
Henry turned and left. I followed closely behind, feeling the anger radiating from him.
Tens of millions of dollars worth of goods, even though it could be fixed, it was still a significant loss for the company.
Plus, if word got out, it would damage the company's reputation.
But what worried me more was the timing - how could this happen right after Caleb was exposed?
I followed Henry into the conference room. Though it was full of people, it was dead silent, with an oppressive calm before the storm.
"So, who's responsible for this?"
As soon as Henry spoke, the room became even more tense and quiet.
Everyone looked at each other, no one daring to speak first.
"A perfectly good shipment gets ruined in the warehouse - what are you all doing!"
"Where's the warehouse manager? Get out of here now!"
After Henry's outburst, the atmosphere in the conference room became even more frozen, without a sound.
"What's the recovery plan? Can the workshop still produce?"
At Henry's question, the production manager quickly stood up. "Mr. Lockwood, all production lines are running at full capacity. There are no spare lines available."
This made the atmosphere even colder.
"How long until delivery?"
"Two weeks."
After hearing this, Henry thought for a moment. "Find similar production facilities. Spare no expense to make up for the loss."
"Yes, sir."
After Henry finished, he looked at everyone. "Those primarily responsible for this incident should resign. Meeting adjourned!"
With that, Henry strode out.
The conference room immediately filled with hushed discussions. I didn't linger and quickly followed Henry.
Back in the office, Henry looked at me. "Helena, how about I put you in charge of handling this?"
