Chapter 30: You Have Changed
"Mr. Lockwood, Ms. Lockwood, a guest has invited you both to come over."
Just as I was racking my brain trying to figure out how to approach Joseph, a waiter came up to us.
Following the waiter's gesture, I saw Joseph.
I was instantly thrilled and pulled Henry's hand as we walked over.
"Miss, hello. Your riding skills are really impressive."
Joseph said, extending his hand to Henry. "Sir, it's a pleasure to meet you both. And you are?"
"I'm Henry, and this is my daughter Helena." Henry shook Joseph's hand and introduced me.
Joseph raised an eyebrow at me. "Ms. Lockwood, would you mind sitting down and chatting with me for a bit?"
Henry and I exchanged glances, and I quickly replied, "Of course not. Do you like horses too, Mr. Davis?"
"Absolutely."
Joseph sat down in front of us and said, "I saw how skilled you are at riding, Ms. Lockwood. Have you had professional training?"
I nodded. "Yes, I learned for a few years when I was little, but I've forgotten most of it. I really made a fool of myself just now."
"Not at all, you were great. Ms. Lockwood, your riding is first-rate, and your ability to handle unexpected situations is even better. You have no idea how worried I was for you just now!"
Joseph laughed heartily.
"Helena has always been bold, but today was indeed dangerous. Fortunately, everything turned out fine," Henry added.
"Today's horse was mainly unfamiliar to me, but I have a Top Horse here."
As soon as I finished speaking, Joseph's eyes widened in surprise. "Is that the Top Horse that was offered for sixty million dollars a few days ago?"
I nodded, pretending to be surprised. "You know about that too?"
Mr. Joseph nodded. "That's exactly why I came—for this Top Horse. A friend said he would bring the horse for me to see, but that friend wasn't you two."
Sure enough, Knox wanted to take the opportunity to give Top Horse to Joseph.
Good thing Henry and I came early today, otherwise he might have actually pulled it off.
"The friend Mr. Davis mentioned—his last name is Pemberton, right?"
After I asked, Joseph thought for a moment and shrugged. "I really don't know his last name. My friend just said he'd introduce us."
I waved my hand, and Barry quickly came over.
Seeing him, I said, "Tell Mr. Davis about the Top Horse situation."
"Yes, yes."
Barry wiped the sweat from his forehead and said to Joseph, "Top Horse belongs to Ms. Lockwood and is kept here, but Mr. Pemberton forcibly borrowed it. Our stable is also responsible. We shouldn't have—"
I raised my hand to stop him. "That's enough. You can go now."
"Yes, yes."
After Barry left, I looked at Joseph. "Sorry you had to see that. If I had known you wanted to see Top Horse, I would have had it brought over directly."
As soon as I finished speaking, I heard an excited voice. "Mr. Davis, so this is where you are."
It was Knox's father, Xavier Pemberton. When the two of them approached and saw Henry and me, the smiles on their faces instantly froze.
"Helena, what are you doing here?"
Seeing Knox's shocked expression, my eyes turned cold as I said, "What a coincidence, Mr. Pemberton. You're here to...?"
Xavier's smile stiffened for a moment, but being an experienced businessman, he quickly recovered and greeted Henry and me. "Henry's here too? What a coincidence. Are you also here specifically to see Mr. Davis?"
Before Henry could answer, Joseph turned to the person beside him. "Is this the person you wanted to introduce me to?"
The man nodded with a forced smile. "Yes, Mr. Pemberton has a Top Horse."
At these words, Joseph's expression became more serious. "No need. Mr. Pemberton can keep Top Horse for himself."
He turned to leave, but after a few steps, he stopped and said to me, "Mr. Lockwood, if you have time, would you and Ms. Lockwood join me for a walk?"
No one present expected Joseph to invite Henry. Henry quickly responded, "Of course, it would be my honor."
Henry nodded to Xavier and Knox and called me to follow.
As soon as I moved, Knox grabbed my arm, his eyes urgent. "Helena."
I froze, then pulled away from his hand. "Knox, if there's something, we'll talk later. I need to go now."
"But Helena—"
Knox wanted to say more, but Xavier stopped him.
"Knox, let Helena go. Mr. Davis is waiting."
As he spoke, Xavier's dark gaze swept over me repeatedly, as if trying to see through me.
Hearing Xavier's words, Knox finally let go.
He looked somewhat dejected, opening his mouth to speak, but I didn't wait for him to finish. I turned and hurried after Henry.
The entire afternoon, Henry and I accompanied Joseph on a tour around Starwave City, and we had dinner together before parting ways.
Henry also successfully got Joseph's contact information. When Joseph heard about the products manufactured by the Lockwood Group, he was clearly very interested in the company's business.
It wasn't until we said goodbye that I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
In this life, with me watching over the company's orders, plus Atlas's contract, and now Joseph, the company crisis from my past life definitely won't happen again.
But until I find the problematic order, I can't let my guard down for a single day.
By the time we got back, it was late at night. I had over a dozen missed calls on my phone—probably all from Knox.
Thinking about how anxious and tormented he must be right now made me happy.
After getting home, I turned off my phone, took a shower, and went to bed.
Early the next morning, I went to the company with Henry. Shortly after arriving, I heard someone calling my name. I walked out of the office and saw it was Knox.
He was holding a bouquet of flowers, and when he saw me, he forced a smile. "Helena, so you really are working at the company now?"
"Yes. Why are you here so early?"
I took the flowers and walked toward the office. He followed behind, complaining, "Why didn't you tell me you were working at the company? I went to your house early this morning and came up empty."
"What do you need?"
I cut him off directly and asked.
Perhaps sensing my coldness, Knox paused for a moment. He stepped closer. "Helena, I feel like you've changed."
