Chapter 249 Acquisition of the Pemberton Group
Chapter 249 Acquisition of the Pemberton Group
Ivan was so easily persuaded. After the discussion ended, Ivan made a phone call.
I didn't know how they negotiated, but I knew that Henry and Atlas would definitely come to rescue me.
The sky grew darker and darker. I curled up in the corner, hungry and tired. Just then, Ivan walked over and tossed me a bag of snacks, saying, "Eat."
Seeing no response from me, Ivan squatted down and looked at me, "Don't want to eat?"
I didn't answer but asked instead, "Where's Knox?"
Ivan snorted coldly, "Want him to save you? Impossible!"
"What's in it for you to scheme with him? I heard your conversation just now. If all the money flows to the Pemberton Group, Knox won't give you a single cent!"
"So what? At least Natasha can be happy."
I didn't expect Ivan to still be thinking about Natasha at this point.
Now I really had no way to deal with him.
Ivan spoke again, "So you'd better eat and drink obediently. Even if you're going to die, you have to wait until after I get the money."
I asked quietly, "You want to kill me?"
"I don't want to kill you, but if you're alive, neither Natasha nor I can inherit the Lockwood Group. So only if you die will we have a chance."
I didn't expect Ivan could say something so heartless.
I thought Knox was ruthless enough, but compared to Ivan, he seemed kind in this life.
I closed my eyes and said nothing more. Seeing me quiet down, Ivan left.
I held on until midnight when suddenly the roar of cars came from outside the dilapidated house.
Before I could react, Ivan grabbed me and dragged me toward the backyard.
"Stop, or we'll shoot!"
Urgent footsteps chased from behind. Ivan paid no attention and just kept dragging me backward.
In the chaotic yard full of scattered rocks, I tripped and fell to the ground.
"Get up, get up!"
Ivan was like a wild beast, staring with bloodshot eyes in the dark night. My foot must have twisted. No matter how he dragged me, I couldn't stand up.
"Helena!"
A familiar voice called from behind. Seeing the pursuers about to catch up, Ivan had no choice but to abandon me and flee alone.
Several blinding lights shone over. Before I could react, I was pulled tightly into someone's arms.
"Helena, are you okay?"
It was Atlas. Hearing his familiar voice, my nose tingled, "I'm fine, just my foot seems sprained."
"It's okay, don't be afraid. I brought a doctor."
As Atlas spoke, he picked me up and quickly walked outside.
"Helena!"
Outside, Henry and Maria rushed over the moment they saw me. After confirming I was fine except for my sprained ankle, they finally relaxed.
After the doctor's examination, there was nothing serious. I would be fine after resting for a while.
As we were leaving, the subdued Ivan was being escorted into a car nearby.
When passing us, Maria rushed over and slapped him hard across the face.
"Ivan, you bastard! Helena is your cousin. What did she ever do to you? How could you treat her like this and even want to kill her!"
Ivan, with his hands restrained, took the slap directly. Maria was furious and used all her strength, leaving a handprint on his face.
After being slapped, Ivan looked fierce and glared at me viciously, "I shouldn't have shown mercy. I should have killed you right away. Only if you die can the Lockwood family's assets fall into Natasha's hands."
"So Natasha was in on this with you?"
Seeing Henry step forward to question him, Ivan froze, then shook his head desperately, "No, Natasha knows nothing!"
"Whether she knows or not, none of you will escape!"
Henry said coldly, "And the Pemberton family too. Don't worry, Knox will join you soon."
"No, no, you can't do this. The kidnapping was all my doing, it has nothing to do with anyone else!"
Ivan was shoved into the car amid his shouting.
After returning, I was kept under Maria's watch. Forget going to the company—I wasn't even allowed to go out. Even Atlas needed to make an appointment in advance to see me.
"It's really not easy to see you." Atlas shook his head with a bitter smile when he saw me.
"Are you complaining that my mom is watching me too closely?"
Seeing me ask this, Atlas quickly denied it, "How could I? I'm grateful. Even if your mom didn't watch you, I would. You have no idea how scared we were this time."
Through Atlas's account, I learned that when he realized something had happened to me and rushed to my house, he only found my smashed phone.
After learning I had been taken away, Atlas and Henry gathered everyone to search for me.
But the cunning Ivan had switched cars and deliberately avoided surveillance cameras, which took some time.
"Thank goodness you're okay."
Atlas reached out to stroke my head, his eyes showing lingering fear. Afraid he would be sad, I quickly said, "Look, I'm fine now. Don't worry."
"Thank goodness. Otherwise, I would have torn Ivan and Knox to pieces!"
Seeing his cold expression, I quickly threw myself into his arms, wrapping my hands around his waist, "Okay, okay, it's fine now. Look, the bad guys have been punished."
Atlas held me tightly in return, as if wanting to embed me into his embrace.
After a long while, he released his hands and said, "Don't worry, no one will hurt you anymore. Ivan and Knox have been detained for kidnapping, and Natasha was taken away as an accomplice."
"As for the Pemberton family."
Mentioning the Pemberton family, Atlas snorted coldly, "The Pemberton Group's stock price has plummeted. The shares you acquired before the incident, plus what I secretly bought, are enough to make you the largest shareholder of the Pemberton Group."
"So Helena, get well soon. When you're better, I'll give you the entire Pemberton Group to play with!"
This was wonderful news. My only wish in this life was to take back everything that belonged to Knox, and it was finally about to come true.
"Thank you, Atlas."
As my words fell, a warm kiss landed on my forehead. "Don't thank me. I'm willing to do anything for you."
Half a month later, my foot finally healed. When I stood in front of the Lockwood Group building again, a sense of unreality rose from my heart.
My waist tightened. I looked back—it was Atlas.
He wrapped his arm around me and said, "Xavier and the Pemberton Group shareholders are all here. We should go up and talk about the acquisition."
I nodded, a smile appearing at the corner of my mouth, "Okay!"
