Chapter 247 The Pemberton Family Is Finished
Chapter 247 The Pemberton Family Is Finished
"I'm just worried, you know? People are so unpredictable. Who would've thought Ivan could actually do something like this!"
Maria sighed as she spoke, waving her hand at the butler. "Alright, do as I said. Double the wages for the night shift staff."
"Yes, Mrs. Lockwood."
The butler responded and left. Seeing how worried Maria was, I had to let it go.
But I just felt that Ivan definitely wouldn't come to the house. He knew I was looking for him, so there was no way he'd walk into a trap.
So where was the only place he could go now?
Back in the bedroom, I carefully thought through the places Ivan could hide. After thinking it over, the only person I could think of was Natasha.
Knox and Ivan did this together, so Natasha might know about it too. If she was in on it, then she was the only person Ivan could turn to now.
With this in mind, I called Atlas and shared my theory. After listening, Atlas said, "Alright, got it. I'll have someone watch her."
After taking care of that, I went to sleep peacefully. Getting good rest was important, because tomorrow there might be another tough battle waiting for me.
The next day at the company, York came up to me. "Ms. Lockwood, the conference room is ready, and everyone who's attending is here."
I nodded. "Good, I'll head over now."
Such a big incident had happened at the company. Although some people were kept in the dark, I still decided to hold a meeting to give everyone an explanation to avoid rumors later on.
When I arrived at the conference room, everyone was already seated. The moment they saw me, they all stood up to greet me.
"Please, everyone, sit down."
I raised my hand to signal everyone to sit, then looked around and turned to Brandon from the workshop. "Brandon, tell everyone what happened these past few days."
"Yes, Ms. Lockwood."
Brandon stood up and explained in detail how Ivan had tried to defraud the company with fake contracts.
"After Ms. Lockwood discovered this, she took immediate action. She had us continue production, then worked with the Lancaster Group to ship the goods out. They went around at sea and then were delivered to the buyers. The matter was resolved perfectly."
"But yesterday, when company security was taking Ivan to the police station, there was an accident. Ivan escaped. So he might do things that harm the company next. But with Ms. Lockwood here, I believe we can get through any danger!"
When Brandon finished, he raised his arm with great energy. Hearing this, the confused crowd finally understood, and many people chimed in. "Ms. Lockwood is amazing!"
"Ms. Lockwood is so sharp to catch this. Amazing, amazing!"
Seeing everyone getting more and more carried away, I waved my hand. "That's what happened. I called this meeting today so everyone knows the whole story. No matter what crisis the company faces next, don't panic. We will definitely get through this."
As soon as I finished speaking, whispers filled the conference room.
"With Ms. Lockwood here, everything will be fine."
"Yeah, yeah, following Ms. Lockwood is the right choice."
Everything was clear now, and everyone was mentally prepared. I felt relieved too.
"Alright, that's all for this meeting. Everyone can get back to work now."
I stood up and walked out of the conference room. York quickly followed behind me. "Ms. Lockwood, this meeting was so successful. Now even if the company faces a crisis, these people will stay calm as rocks!"
I shook my head. "Don't let your guard down. Ivan has been planning this for so long. He won't just use this one move. There might be other tricks coming."
York was startled. "Then where do you think Ivan is hiding? Should I take people to look for him?"
"Not for now. I already have someone watching him. But you need to pay attention inside the company and see if anyone is in contact with him."
As soon as I finished, York nodded repeatedly. "Got it. What we need to watch out for now are insiders. I'll keep a close eye."
Not long after I returned to my office, Maximus, the manager of the information department, rushed in.
"Ms. Lockwood, something's wrong with the Pemberton Group's stock."
"What happened?"
I quickly opened my computer and, with Maximus's guidance, found the Pemberton Group's stock. What I saw was a disaster.
"I don't know what happened. Early this morning when the market opened, the Pemberton Group's stock dropped so much it got suspended."
Maximus looked puzzled. "But the Pemberton Group's stock has always been stable. I don't know which big player they offended this time. Now everyone's talking about it, guessing whether the Pemberton Group's stock will keep dropping tomorrow."
Good that it's dropping!
I glanced at the market and said, "I'll have finance transfer funds to you. Buy up the Pemberton Group's stock with everything we've got. This time I'm going to make sure the Pemberton family can't recover!"
Maximus's expression became serious. He tried to persuade me, "But the stock market is risky. If today was just a fluke and we jump in tomorrow, we might get hurt."
"No, we won't." I was certain in my heart. This wasn't a coincidence—someone was really going after the Pemberton Group behind the scenes.
So the Pemberton Group's situation would only get worse, not better.
"Just do as I say. I'll have finance transfer the funds to you now."
Seeing my mind was made up, Maximus could only agree and do as told.
The next day around noon, Maximus informed me again that the Pemberton Group's stock had hit another limit down.
This time, he finally believed me—someone was deliberately going after the Pemberton family.
With the market dropping hard, retail investors were selling off their shares too. The money I transferred to Maximus was all converted into stock.
When it was time to leave work, Maximus came to my office. "Ms. Lockwood, should we continue buying tomorrow?"
This was a great opportunity to openly take control of the Pemberton Group's shares. Of course we should buy!
"Tomorrow morning as soon as work starts, I'll have finance transfer more funds to you. Just keep going."
Hearing my words, Maximus felt reassured and quickly responded, "Yes, Ms. Lockwood. I'll do that."
That evening when I got home, I saw Henry waiting for me in the living room. The moment he saw me, he asked directly, "You had someone buy the Pemberton Group's stock?"
I knew such a large expenditure from the company couldn't escape Henry's notice. I nodded. "Yes."
Just when I thought Henry would disapprove, he said instead, "Go ahead and keep at it boldly. The Pemberton Group might really be finished this time!"
