Chapter 238: The Results of the Interrogation
After saying that, she tilted her head backward and drained her glass.
Knox's unwilling gaze still lingered on me, but under Atlas's imposing presence, he ultimately didn't dare say another word.
After they left, I frowned and said, "Natasha definitely has bad intentions. She was so unusual today, she's probably plotting something again."
Atlas nodded, his expression turning serious. "Stay away from her from now on. I'll handle the Pemberton family."
The wedding ended smoothly. On the way back, Atlas took a phone call. I don't know what the person on the other end said, but his expression instantly became more serious. "Okay, I got it."
After he hung up, I glanced at him and asked, "What's wrong?"
Atlas hit the brakes and turned to look at me. "I want to take you to see a good show."
His words immediately sparked my curiosity. "Sure, let's go then."
Seeing that I agreed, Atlas turned the steering wheel and the car headed back.
After driving for a while, we arrived at a remote, run-down courtyard. Atlas opened the car door and carefully helped me out, holding my hand.
"Be careful."
After getting out, I looked around curiously. "What is this place?"
Atlas shook his head. "I don't know either. Just some wasteland, I guess."
He reached out his hand to me. "Watch your step."
When we went inside, we were surprised to see a man gagged and tied to a chair. The moment he saw us come in, he desperately shook his body.
Several people standing around quickly nodded when they saw Atlas. "Mr. Lancaster, you're here."
Atlas nodded. "Let him speak."
"Yes, sir."
Someone stepped forward and removed the cloth from the man's mouth. The man looked at me and cried out repeatedly, "Helena, help me!"
I frowned. "You know me?"
The man nodded repeatedly. "I'm Winford, John's driver!"
Now that he mentioned it, I remembered. "Oh, it's you. Instead of driving properly for John, how did you end here, tied up?"
Seeing my question, he stammered, "I don't know either."
Then his gaze fell on Atlas, and he said excitedly, "Helena, this gentleman captured me. He's your friend, right? Please put in a good word for me and let me go."
Before I could speak, Atlas said calmly, "Letting you go isn't impossible, but first you need to come clean about what you did."
Hearing this, Winford's eyes flickered as he hurriedly denied it. "I haven't done anything. You must have the wrong person."
"Is that so?"
Atlas didn't waste words with him. He took out his phone and pulled up a photo—the one of Nancy hugging him at the airport. He held the phone in front of Winford's face and said coldly, "Look carefully. Did you take this photo?"
"I..."
Winfred attempted to start talking, but Atlas cut him off directly. "Think carefully before you answer. If you lie, don't expect to get out of here."
The moment Atlas finished speaking, several large men holding wooden clubs surrounded him again.
Seeing this, Winford trembled with fear. "Don't, don't hit me. Let's talk this through."
As his words fell, one of the men's clubs came down hard on the back of the chair he was tied to.
The chair's back integrated in an instant, sending fragments of wood fluttering through the air like snow.Winford let out a scream and fell to the ground.
When someone nearby pulled him back up, his face had already turned pale with fear, and he screamed repeatedly, "Don't hit me, don't hit me!"
"Speak."
It was just a simple statement from Atlas, but the authority in his voice completely broke Winford's nerve.
"It was Ivan. He gave me a large sum of money to have someone follow you, Mr. Lancaster. But after Ivan got these photos from the airport, he told me to stop having you followed."
"Later, Ivan said Starwave City wasn't safe anymore. He gave me another large sum of money to leave. I figured it was enough money to retire on, so I left."
After Winford finished explaining what happened, he looked at Atlas pitifully. "Everything I said is true. I didn't lie at all. I'm not lying to you, really not lying."
"Oh, if you don't believe me, I haven't spent the money Ivan gave me yet. That money can prove that what I'm saying is true."
Hearing him mention Ivan over and over, my heart went completely cold.
Ivan—so it really was him. Why would he do this?
As if sensing my confusion, Atlas asked for me, "Did Ivan ever say why he wanted you to have someone follow me?"
"Yes."
Winford nodded repeatedly. "Ivan mentioned it once. He said he didn't want to see you and Helena together."
Just as I thought!
My nails dug deep into my palms. Although I had been mentally prepared for this about Ivan, hearing it for real still made me feel sad.
Ivan was ultimately going to stand against me.
Seeing my low spirits, Atlas turned and put his arm around my waist, leading me away.
Behind us came Winford's wailing voice, "I've told you everything, Mr. Lancaster, please let me go!"
"Don't hit my face!"
The sounds behind us gradually faded. I frowned slightly—dealing with someone like this was beneath Atlas.
"Atlas."
Atlas immediately understood what I meant. He held my hand and said, "It's okay, just making him shut up. I won't go too far."
Hearing this, I nodded with relief.
After we got back in the car, Atlas looked at me. "How do you plan to handle this Ivan situation?"
I thought for a moment. "For now, let's not alert him. His tricks can't be just this one thing—there must be more. When he exposes more, then we'll take action. We just need to be hunters and wait quietly."
Atlas agreed with my words. He nodded. "Okay, we'll do as you say."
Just then my phone rang. I opened it to see a text from Ivan.
"Helena, I can come back to work tomorrow. See you at the office!"
Seeing this text, I frowned. Ivan was so eager to return to the company—he must be planning something big.
What exactly does he want to do?
Seeing me lost in thought, Atlas put his hand on my head and gently rubbed it. "What's going on?"
I put away my phone. "It's Ivan saying he's coming back to work tomorrow."
"That eager?"
Atlas was also puzzled. "Could there be something at the company that he's after?"
Seeing that Atlas and I were thinking along the same lines, I nodded. "Don't worry, I'll have someone keep a close eye on him."
"Good."
Atlas held my hand. "If you need anything, call me."
