Chapter 236 Attending the Wedding
Chapter 236 Attending the Wedding
The next day, Natasha didn't call me again. She was probably waiting for me to deliver the money to her doorstep in person. Too bad for her—she must be out of her mind to think that would actually happen.
The following day, Atlas arrived early, saying he wanted to attend Knox's wedding with us.
During this period, he'd been coming to the house every few days, making Henry and Maria incredibly happy. I knew exactly what he was up to.
He just wanted to pass Henry and Maria's test as soon as possible.
Seeing him arrive so early, Maria was delighted. "Atlas, have you had breakfast?"
Atlas shook his head. "Not yet, Mrs. Lockwood."
His words made Maria feel so sorry for him that she immediately had a servant bring over a glass of milk.
"Drink this. I can't let you get hungry."
"Thank you, Mrs. Lockwood."
As Atlas spoke, he raised the glass and drank it all in one go. Just as he set down the glass, Henry came out of his study.
Seeing that we were all ready, he said, "Let's go."
We all got in the car and soon arrived at the wedding venue in the suburbs.
Natasha and Knox had chosen a lawn wedding, so the venue was set up on a lawn in the suburbs. By the time we arrived, quite a few people were already there.
Many people saw Atlas with us and immediately showed knowing smiles.
Someone came up to greet Henry. "It looks like there's another happy occasion coming up for the Lockwood family."
Hearing this, Henry laughed heartily and patted Atlas on the shoulder. "This is Helena's boyfriend. They're very much in love right now."
Then Henry pointed to the man who had greeted him. "This is Mr. Wallace from Quantum Leap Enterprises."
"Hello, Mr. Wallace."
Atlas greeted him politely, then fell silent. Despite his quiet demeanor, his refined bearing and upright posture made Neil Wallace nod approvingly.
"Mr. Lockwood, you're very fortunate."
"You're too kind."
Though Henry spoke modestly, the smile on his face showed that Neil's words had touched his heart.
"Mr. Lockwood, Mr. Lancaster, how did you all come together?"
At the sound of the voice, Xavier walked over. The moment he saw Atlas standing beside Henry, his expression stiffened.
Seeing Knox beside him, Henry snorted coldly and said, "You probably don't know this, but Atlas is Helena's boyfriend. They've been together for quite a while now and have a great relationship. Some people better not get any foolish ideas about pursuing Helena."
"Mr. Lockwood, you're making this sound too serious. What happened last time was all a misunderstanding, really a misunderstanding!"
Xavier said this while pulling Knox over. "Quick, apologize to Ms. Lockwood!"
Today Knox was the groom, but there wasn't a trace of joy on his face. His unfriendly eyes swept back and forth between Atlas and me.
Seeing this, Atlas grabbed my hand as if declaring his claim. "Today is Mr. Pemberton's big day. Let's skip the apology. Oh, and congratulations to Mr. Pemberton."
Seeing that we were avoiding the topic of last time, Xavier's expression grew even uglier.
"Mr. Lockwood, I know you're very angry, which is why suppliers and banks are refusing to work with the Pemberton Group. But that incident was just Knox losing control after drinking. He didn't mean it."
Hearing Xavier's words, Henry frowned. "I don't know what you're talking about. Today is Knox's wedding, and most of the guests have arrived. You should go attend to them."
Seeing Henry refuse to engage, Xavier had no choice but to back off.
As he was leaving, he looked at Henry and said, "Mr. Lockwood, I know Knox was in the wrong, but after today, we'll be relatives. Shouldn't we leave each other some face?"
Henry nodded absentmindedly. "You're right. You should get back to your duties."
"Alright, let's go!"
Xavier pulled Knox and turned to leave. As they left, Knox looked at me reluctantly. Noticing his action, Atlas stepped forward to block his view.
After they left, Henry frowned in confusion. "The bank was my doing, but what's this about suppliers that Xavier mentioned?"
Henry looked at Atlas as he spoke, then suddenly understood. "Atlas, did you do that?"
Atlas nodded slightly, admitting, "The Pemberton family has been too arrogant, thinking they can lay hands on anyone. They needed to be taught a lesson."
"Well done!"
Henry laughed heartily and patted Atlas on the shoulder. "That's exactly how you should treat enemies—ruthlessly and without mercy!"
"Helena is my girlfriend. If anyone tries to harm her, they're going against me, and I won't let them off."
Hearing Atlas say this, Henry nodded with satisfaction. "Good. Helena didn't choose wrong, and neither did we. I feel at ease leaving Helena in your hands."
"Thank you, Mr. Lockwood. I will protect Helena well."
If Henry would have given Atlas eighty points before, he could now raise it to ninety. After this incident, Henry looked at Atlas with appreciation and satisfaction.
I believed that if Atlas brought up marriage right now, Henry would actually agree.
Afraid that Atlas would actually propose marriage, I quickly interrupted, "Dad, the wedding is about to start. Should we find a place to sit?"
"Yes, good idea."
We had just sat down when Ivan, with one arm in a sling, saw us and came over excitedly.
"Uncle Henry, Helena."
After greeting them, he looked at Atlas. He hesitated for a moment, then quickly said, "Mr. Lancaster, you came too. Thank you for coming."
Atlas nodded slightly. "Congratulations."
"Thank you."
Ivan then reached out to pull me. "Helena, let me take you to sit in the front row. That's the family section."
Ivan also invited Henry and Maria, but he wasn't as polite to Atlas. "Sorry, Mr. Lancaster. We didn't know you were coming, so there's no seat arranged for you there. Would you mind sitting in the back?"
Atlas nodded slightly and let go of my hand. "No at all."
He sat back down. Seeing this, I frowned. If I couldn't sense Ivan's hostility toward Atlas at this point, I would be too slow.
I frowned and pulled my hand away from Ivan. "Ivan, you go ahead with your duties. I'll stay here with Atlas."
Ivan was reluctant, but seeing that I had already sat down next to Atlas, he had to give up.
"Alright then, Helena, you rest for a bit. I'll come back later."
He left with Henry and Maria. Once they were gone, Atlas gently took my hand."Actually, you didn't have to do that. I would have been fine sitting here alone."
I looked at him and said unhappily, "How could that be okay? You're my boyfriend, and I brought you here. How could I just leave you alone?"
These words clearly pleased Atlas. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly, showing he was in a good mood.
"My girlfriend cares about me so much. I'm truly honored."
I looked up at him, my heart full of sweetness. "You don't need to be so polite."
As soon as I finished speaking, music started playing. Natasha, escorted by John, slowly walked out.
She wore a white wedding dress. Standing next to Knox in his suit, they actually looked quite well-matched.
Under the minister's witness, the two exchanged rings. Amid the guests' applause, the wedding ceremony came to an end.
