Chapter 197 We’re Not Suitable for Each Other
After saying that, he quickly glanced at me again. I could tell he found my question strange, but he thought better of asking.
As an assistant, he had to be someone who could maintain discretion. Although Benjamin seemed to be hiding nothing from me, I knew that if I pressed further, it would definitely make him suspicious.
But thinking about that photo of Nancy hugging Atlas, my heart couldn't shake a sense of unease again.
After a moment's reflection, I finally asked, "Did you arrange for someone to pick up Atlas?"
"Yes, the company driver was sent to get him."
After Benjamin finished speaking, he went quiet immediately, not saying a single extra word.
Looking at him, I thought for a moment and continued asking, "The day Atlas came back to the country, would anyone else know he was back?"
Benjamin thought carefully and said, "Probably not. I was the one who booked the ticket, and I wouldn't gossip about Mr. Lancaster’s business everywhere."
After he said that, I understood. Nancy must have bumped into Atlas at the airport, and it was Nancy who deliberately went up and hugged Atlas, but I didn't know what happened after that.
I let out a long breath. some things had to be addressed directly to the person involved.
Thinking of this, I smiled slightly and said to Benjamin, "Okay, thank you for today. I’ll let you know if I need anything else. You can go back to your work now."
"Yes, then Ms. Lockwood, I'll leave you to it."
After Benjamin finished speaking, he left the office and quietly pulled the door shut.
After he left, I took out my phone to look again. This time, I could see clearly that when they were hugging, Nancy looked absolutely thrilled, but Atlas was frowning slightly. He looked very unhappy.
I put away my phone and resolved that I had to get to the bottom of this today.
More than an hour later, Atlas finally came back. The moment the office door opened, Atlas said loudly, "Sorry Helena, have I kept you waiting?"
As he spoke, he walked up to me and gave my head a playful pat. I looked up at him with a smile and said, "It's okay."
He looked at me, his eyes bright. "You must be hungry. Want to grab a bite?"
"Sounds like a plan."
I nodded. "Where are you taking me?"
Atlas thought for a moment. "What are you in the mood for?"
I shook my head. "Nothing comes to mind. You decide."
Hearing this, Atlas thought seriously and said, "There's a new restaurant nearby. Let me take you there to check out their specialties."
"Sounds good."
I got up, snatched up my purse, and followed him downstairs.
The It was just a short walk. We arrived after walking for a few minutes. Atlas had reserved a table in advance, and after we went in, a server led us to our seats.
After sitting down, Atlas ordered while I casually looked around. Soon, my smile vanished.
Talk about a coincidence—I actually saw Nancy.
She obviously saw us too. She had originally been eating with two friends, but as soon as she spotted us, she stood up and walked toward us.
Under my gaze, the smile on her face didn't fade, but I could tell it was a smirk.
Atlas in front of me was totally oblivious of what was happening. While ordering, he didn't forget to ask me questions.
I gave him a distracted answer while my eyes met Nancy's. Soon she walked to our table and said coldly, "What a coincidence!"
Hearing her voice, Atlas looked up and only then noticed Nancy standing there. He frowned and looked at Nancy with confusion. "What are you doing here?"
"Having lunch, obviously."
Nancy pointed behind her. "My friends and I were shopping nearby, and they said there was a new restaurant here, so we decided to give it a try."
After saying that, she pulled up a chair without asking and sat down. "I just didn't expect to run into you guys here."
After speaking, she looked me over with a critical gaze. "Helena, did you come here just to see Atlas today?"
The tone in which she asked this question was very strange, and even Atlas sensed the tension.
He frowned at Nancy. "Your friends are waiting for you. Shouldn't you head back?"
"Atlas, are you trying to brush me off?"
Nancy gave a frustrated pou. "I came all the way over here when I saw you to say hello, but instead you're trying to send me away?"
Seeing her looking all wronged, Atlas obviously was at a loss for words.
He said somewhat helplessly, "Fine, fine. Suit yourself, stay if you like."
Hearing this, Nancy looked at me somewhat provocatively and said, "Atlas, I have a bone to pick with you yet. That day coming back from the airport, you just left me there, and I had to walk such a long way. My dad even said that next time you come to our house, he's going to scold you."
I had been worried about not having a way to mention what happened at the airport, so when Nancy brought it up herself, it was exactly what I wanted.
I asked casually, "Was that the day you came back from your business trip? But Atlas, I thought no one knew about your business trip. How did you run into Nancy at the airport?"
Atlas, fearing I’d get the wrong idea, quickly said, "It was a coincidence. I just happened to run into Nancy."
After Atlas finished speaking, Nancy, as if trying to stir the pot, quickly said, "Yes, we met at the airport, but Atlas was the one who offered to take me home."
"Everything was fine originally, but unfortunately we got into a fight on the way."
At this point, Nancy looked at Atlas seriously. "It was my fault for arguing last time, Atlas. I apologize to you. I won’t push you anymore."
Hearing her words, Atlas's expression visibly stiffened.
He glanced at me and said directly, "Nancy, I've always seen you as a sister, before and in the future. This won't change. In this life, the only person I want to marry is Helena, no one else. What I said in the car last time, I'll say it again in front of Helena. I don't want Helena to misunderstand because of us."
"Since when am I your sister?"
Hearing Atlas's words, Nancy angrily raised her voice. "Just because you say I'm your sister means I am? I'm not having it!"
"In all the all these years, I've been the only one by your side. What is Helena!"
As Nancy spoke, she pointed her finger at me and said hysterically, "She only appeared for a few months and wrap you around her finger. What's so good about her?"
Looking at Nancy like this, I instantly felt a weight lifted about the airport incident.
Seeing her ask this question, Atlas didn't humor her. He took my hand and said to her, "Everything about Helena is the best in my eyes. Even if she's not perfect, she's still the person I chose. I've decided on her for this life."
After speaking, Atlas sighed. "Nancy, you're a grown woman. You should understand that feelings can't be forced. Why put yourself through this? It's not like there aren't excellent guys around you. Just focus your attention on them. We're not right for each other."
