Chapter 190: Getting Engaged
Helena's POV
After Atlas left, I kept looking at the crown in my hands, liking it more and more. I couldn't help but search for information about it online. When I saw that it last appeared at an auction and was bought for five hundred million dollars, my eyes widened instantly.
Oh my god, could the buyer have been Atlas?
It must have been him, otherwise the crown wouldn't be in my hands now.
If I'd known it was this valuable, I should have asked Atlas to come with me to the bank to store it.
Thinking of this, I immediately closed the box, planning to get some security personnel to accompany me to the bank.
Just then, someone knocked on my office door. It was York who came in.
"Helena, why did Mr. Lancaster come to the company today?"
As he spoke, his face was full of excited gossip.
Seeing this, I frowned and said, "What's the big deal? He's my boyfriend. It's totally normal for him to come to the company to see me."
"Sure, it's normal, but there's Ivan now. You have no idea how excited everyone was the moment they saw Mr. Lancaster."
York looked thrilled as he spoke. Seeing his expression, I frowned and asked, "What were they so excited about?"
"Everyone's waiting to see whether you'll choose Mr. Lancaster or Ivan. But judging by how things look right now, Mr. Lancaster has the upper hand."
Seeing him joking around like this, I said, "Since you've got nothing to do, come with me to the bank."
I grabbed the box from my desk, put it in my bag, opened the office door and walked out.
Seeing my actions, York immediately understood. He quickly followed behind me. Once we were in the car, he carefully asked, "Helena, is what you're holding a gift from Mr. Lancaster?"
I nodded.
He got excited again instantly. "If you're being this careful with it, this gift must be worth a fortune!"
He smacked his lips and said, "Maybe it's worth hundreds of millions of dollars."
I smiled and didn't respond to him. When we drove to the bank, the bank manager personally came out to greet us and took me to the underground vault. After I placed the crown in my private safe deposit box, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
When I came out, I saw York chatting idly with the bank staff out of boredom.
Seeing me, he immediately straightened up. "Helena, done already?"
I nodded. "Let's go."
"Yes."
On the drive back, I asked in detail about how people at the company reacted when they saw Atlas and what Ivan was up to.
When I heard that Ivan had no reaction and didn't respond to the rumors at all, I felt uneasy.
I immediately thought that maybe I'd guessed right about this whole thing - these rumors might have been deliberately spread by Ivan.
If his goal was to drive a wedge between Atlas and me, then his plan was going to fail.
I laughed coldly. "Using such petty tricks? York, he's definitely going to make other moves. Keep a close eye on him for me."
"Yes, Helena, don't worry. I'll watch him closely!"
York cheerfully agreed. Soon we were back at the company. When I went upstairs, I didn't notice anything unusual this time.
"Ms. Lockwood, we've finished checking the accounts for the first three months and found no irregularities." Giselle's voice was respectful.
I nodded and said, "The accounts are fine, but is there anything unusual about their behavior?"
Giselle thought for a moment and said, "I ran into Patrick today."
From her expression, I knew she had more to say. Sure enough, Giselle continued, "Patrick asked me about the results of the audit, and half-jokingly said he wanted to take me to dinner."
Take her to dinner? Now that's loaded with information.
After thinking it over, I said directly, "Go ahead."
"What?"
Giselle looked at me with some surprise, quite confused.
I explained to her, "Didn't he say he wanted to treat you? I mean you should go. Go and hear what Patrick has to say."
"But is that okay?"
Giselle was still hesitant. Seeing this, I said directly, "What's wrong with it? I'm the one telling you to go. Just go to dinner, and report back to me when you return."
Hearing this, Giselle finally understood. "Yes, Ms. Lockwood. Then I'll go to the appointment."
Patrick has worked in the business world for so many years. He shouldn't be contacting Giselle at this critical moment, and he wouldn't reveal anything related to business.
I knew in my heart that even if Giselle went to the appointment, she probably wouldn't get anything useful. But his anxiety definitely meant he had something to hide. It wouldn't hurt to have Giselle check it out.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in!"
After I responded, the office door was pushed open and Ivan walked in.
"Helena, Dad said he wants you and Uncle Henry to come home together today."
I looked at Ivan with some curiosity. "Is something going on?"
Ivan shook his head. "I'm not quite sure either. It seems to be related to Serenity."
Speaking of Serenity, I couldn't help but think of Zachary again. I had wanted to find a woman to deliberately approach him so he wouldn't be able to get close to Quincy, but after searching for a long time, I still hadn't found a suitable candidate.
But for Quincy's happiness, this matter couldn't be delayed any longer.
Thinking of this, I stood up and looked at Ivan. "Okay, then I'll call Dad when I get off work. What about you? Are we leaving together after work?"
Ivan shook his head, his expression somewhat hesitant. "I don't need to. Otherwise the colleagues will misunderstand again."
"Misunderstand what?"
Seeing me ask back, Ivan was momentarily stunned, not sure if I was asking on purpose or really didn't know.
He quickly shook his head. "Nothing, nothing. I'll go downstairs and get back to work."
After he left, I called the production department to ask about it. Learning that the batch of goods Ivan had signed for was still being produced smoothly, I felt relieved.
I then called York and told him to keep a close eye on that shipment, and to go with them when it was time for delivery.
After everything was arranged, it was soon time to get off work. I went straight to Henry's office and saw he was on the phone. After he finished his call, I relayed Ivan's message to him.
"Oh, that. I know about it. It's because the Turner family is coming to visit today."
I was somewhat surprised. "Does this mean things worked out between Serenity and Antony?"
Henry nodded. "Serenity's scheming nature can't be allowed to continue. If we keep her around, she'll cause trouble. So John and I discussed it, and the Turner family's situation is pretty good. We're planning to have her get engaged to Antony."
Hearing this, I asked, "Serenity agreed too?"
Henry nodded. "Yes, otherwise how could the Turner family come to visit?"
I nodded. "That's good then."
She's finally getting married off. Hopefully Serenity won't cause any trouble.
