Chapter 144 Kicked Out of the Company

Chapter 145: A Decision Regretted for Life

"Helena, what brings you here?"

Willow came out when she heard the noise. Seeing me, she asked with a fake smile, "Are you looking for Natasha? She went out celebrating with Knox and some friends after the engagement last night and came back really late."

"If you're looking for her, you'll have to wait a bit. I'll have someone go wake her up."

I said with a straight face, "That would be great, thanks."

"Alright, make yourself comfortable."

Willow said as she twisted her body and went upstairs.

Serenity heard the commotion and poked her head out. Seeing it was me, she came over excitedly, "Helena, you're here! I was just about to look for you."

"What do you want from me?" I asked with a frown.

"It's about Derek from the Turner family. Do you remember him?"

She looked at me with bright, sparkling eyes.

How could I forget that Derek? I nodded, "I remember. What about him?"

She said, "He invited me to dinner, but you know I've always been timid. I really don't know how to handle this kind of situation. I want to invite you to come along. Is that okay?"

"No."

I rejected her suggestion outright.

That Derek is clearly a playboy with bad intentions. Why would I have anything to do with him?

"Why not, Helena?"

Serenity seemed surprised that I refused so directly without even pretending. She squatted down in front of me, looked up at me with a pitiful expression, "Helena, why don't you want to go?"

I almost laughed at this. "Why should I go?"

"You need to understand - he invited you, not me. I have the right to say no."

"But I'll be scared going alone. Helena, please come with me."

Serenity said while shaking my hand, looking hopeful.

I pulled my hand back and stared at her in confusion, "If I remember correctly, your blind date last time was with Antony. Why would Derek invite you?"

Hearing this, Serenity looked a bit uncomfortable. "I only met Antony once. We're not married. Why can't I accept invitations from other men?"

I was almost amused by her logic.

"You need to understand - Derek is Antony's older brother. If you go on a date with him and Antony finds out, what then?"

Serenity said, somewhat confused, "If he finds out, I'll just sweet-talk him. Problem solved."

At those words, I was speechless. Serenity was really fake.

There was no point saying more. I said directly, "If you want to go, go by yourself. There's no way I'm going with you."

Seeing my firm attitude, Serenity bit her lower lip and said huffily, "Helena, do I have to get Dad to talk to you about this?"

I looked at her with a cold smile, "What makes you think that if your father talks to me, I'll agree? You're just an illegitimate daughter and you dare threaten me?"

"Serenity, do you really think I'm that easy to threaten?"

I stood up and stared at her coldly, "Actually, I have a score to settle with you."

"What score?"

Serenity frowned at me, "I haven't done anything to offend you."

"Why did you give Zachary's phone number to Quincy? You knew I didn't want Quincy to have anything to do with Zachary, but you not only ignored that, you deliberately went against me. Serenity, do you really think I can't do anything about you?"

Hearing me bring this up, Serenity's eyes showed a flash of panic. "Helena, I thought your good friend was my good friend too. I was just fulfilling her wish. I didn't do anything terrible."

In my past life, Quincy died at Zachary's hands.

That was a living person's life!

If history repeats itself in this life, then Serenity would be indirectly responsible for killing Quincy!

"If something really happens, even throwing you in wouldn't be enough to pay the debt!"

I snorted coldly and warned her, "I'm telling you, stay away from Quincy. If there's a next time, I won't let you off!"

"Helena, you!"

Seeing me being so rude, Serenity's expression changed dramatically. Just then, John came back from outside. The moment she saw him, Serenity covered her face and started crying.

"What's going on?"

Hearing the commotion, John walked over quickly and looked at Serenity, "What's wrong? Why are you crying for no reason?"

Seeing her continue crying, John looked at me suspiciously, "Helena, what happened?"

I sat back down on the sofa calmly and said coldly, "I was just teaching Serenity how to be a proper person, and she started crying."

"You know, to fit into Starwave City, social interactions are essential. As a member of the Lockwood family, if she doesn't even understand basic social etiquette, wouldn't that bring shame to the Lockwood family?"

Hearing this, John agreed, "Helena's right. I was actually planning to have you teach Serenity etiquette when you had time. I didn't expect you to think of it first."

Hearing this, my heart stirred, "So you're not blaming me?"

"Not at all."

John waved his hand, then pushed Serenity in front of me, "Helena, from now on, take Serenity out to see the world. She doesn't have many friends anyway, so I feel better with you looking after her."

Hearing this, I said with a half-smile, "Aren't you afraid I'll bully her?"

At my words, John paused, half-joking, half-testing, "Would you?"

I replied, "Hard to say. You know I've been spoiled since childhood and have always been domineering. I might suddenly get upset and yell at people."

"Look at you, making jokes now."

John pointed his finger at me playfully, then pushed Serenity's shoulder to face me, "Alright, stop crying. From now on, learn more from Helena. Once you've learned enough, I'll give you a company to play with."

Hearing this, Serenity instantly stopped crying.

She lowered her hands, "Dad, are you serious?"

John said, "Of course I'm serious. When have I ever lied to you?"

With those words, Serenity immediately smiled.

"Then don't worry, Dad. I'll definitely learn well from Helena."

Then she looked at me, "Helena, you'll teach me well, right?"

Serenity's attitude changed so quickly.

I looked at her coldly, "As long as you're not afraid of hard work, come ahead."

"I grew up with my mom, never having enough to eat or wear. I've suffered a lot, so I can handle hardship the best. Helena, don't worry, I'll learn well."

After Serenity finished speaking, John thought of his deceased first love again, and his expression became much more melancholic.

He sighed and said seriously, "Then Helena, I'm entrusting Serenity to you."

How ridiculous. Serenity was his biological daughter. If he really cared, he would keep her by his side and teach her carefully himself, not just dump her on someone else.

But that's fine. Now that she's in my hands, I'll make sure Serenity regrets this for the rest of her life!
