Chapter 138 Same Style Clothes
Early the next morning, I had just gotten up and walked downstairs when I heard Atlas's voice.
Seeing me come down, Maria said, "If you hadn't gotten up soon, I was about to go upstairs to wake you. Look, Atlas has been here for half an hour already."
Atlas stood up and looked at me with a smile. "It's fine, I came early."
He wore a dark blue suit with a camel-colored wool coat over it, making him look even more handsome.
I walked over to him, tilted my head to look him over a few times, and said with a grin, "Looking pretty good."
Atlas raised his hand to adjust his collar and smiled. "It's all thanks to your good taste."
I leaned close to his ear and whispered, "This isn't my doing. My mom personally arranged for someone to send it to you. If you want to thank anyone, thank my mom."
After hearing this, Atlas looked up at Maria with delight. "Thank you, Mrs. Lockwood, for helping me pick out the clothes."
Atlas really knew how to seize an opportunity, and Maria just ate it up. "Since you like it, I'll buy all your clothes for you from now on."
I turned to Maria and said, "Mom, with just one sentence from him, you're covering his wardrobe for all four seasons. That's not fair."
"What's unfair about it? Don't I prepare your clothes for you too? Really." Maria laughed and tapped my forehead, then said, "Fine, I know you're jealous. From now on, whenever I prepare something for Atlas, I'll prepare a set for you too. Happy now?"
I wasn't jealous at all—I just couldn't stand Atlas looking so smug.
"Atlas is here."
As we were talking, Henry walked over.
"Dad, where did you go so early in the morning instead of staying home?"
I took Henry's coat and handed it to a servant. Henry said, "Went to the company to handle some things. Alright, let's eat first. After breakfast, we'll head to the hotel."
"Okay."
After a simple meal, the stylist Maria had called arrived. They did simple styling for Maria and me, and then came the part I dreaded—picking out clothes.
"Helena, should we go with the white one or the purple one?"
At this point, Henry craned his neck to look and said, "The white one. White looks good—it makes Helena look pure and elegant. Let's go with that one."
Hearing Henry's words, Maria finally made up her mind.
"Alright, let's wear the white one."
After changing, I slowly walked downstairs. Everyone waiting below stood up and looked over.
Atlas couldn't help but say, "Helena, you look beautiful today."
"More beautiful than the star of the engagement party?" I replied playfully.
Maria came forward to adjust the pearl necklace at my chest. "Of course, you're a hundred times more beautiful than Natasha."
Then she called to a servant, "Bring me that shawl from my bedroom for Helena."
"Yes, ma'am."
Soon the servant brought the shawl, and Maria draped it over my shoulders. She stepped back and said with satisfaction, "Perfect. Elegant and refined. Beautiful."
Henry nodded slightly. "Can we leave now?"
"Of course." Maria turned and said, "Let's go."
Today Atlas drove himself, taking us to the hotel.
The engagement party was being held at Echo Point Castle. When we arrived, it was already packed with guests.
You could tell that John's family and the Pemberton family had put a lot of effort into today's engagement party.
Maria held Henry's arm, and I held Atlas's arm as we followed behind them.
As soon as we entered the castle, a server announced loudly, "Mr. Lockwood and Mrs. Lockwood have arrived."
As the words fell, many eyes in the castle turned to our family.
"Henry, you're here."
John came up with a champagne glass. His eyes fell on me, and his expression froze for a moment before he quickly recovered.
"Helena, that dress looks really nice on you."
I looked down at myself, puzzled. The dress was indeed nice.
When I looked up again, I met his gaze directly and said, "Thank you."
"Helena, you're here."
Hearing the commotion, Serenity turned around and, seeing me, walked over excitedly. Her eyes briefly fell on Atlas.
"You look so beautiful today, and Mr. Lancaster looks so handsome."
"Of course, trust my judgment."
As I spoke, I looked up at Atlas, and he looked down at me with an understanding glance.
Watching our silent interaction, Serenity couldn't hide the envy and jealousy in her eyes.
Just as she was about to speak again, a voice interrupted.
"Helena, isn't what you're wearing today inappropriate?"
It was Willow speaking.
I looked at her, confused. "What's wrong with the dress? Why can't I wear this?"
"Don't you know that today Natasha—"
Before she could finish, there was a commotion.
Today's engagement party stars, Natasha and Knox, walked out from inside the castle.
The moment I saw Natasha, I understood why Willow and John had reacted so strongly to my dress.
Because today, Natasha and I were wearing the exact same dress.
She wasn't as pretty as me, and wearing the same dress made her look even more inferior by comparison.
The moment I looked over, she froze for a second, then came storming over angrily.
"Helena, what's the meaning of this?"
Seeing her glare at me, I quickly recovered and smiled lightly. "Congratulations on your engagement."
"Cut the act!" Natasha said angrily. "You did this on purpose, didn't you?"
"You knew it was my engagement party today and deliberately wore the same dress as me to embarrass me!"
"Natasha, what are you talking about?" I frowned. "I picked the dress from the store. Besides, how would I know what you were wearing today? Nobody told me."
"I think you did it on purpose."
After Natasha yelled a few times, many people looked over.
Today's engagement party was already awkward to begin with. The previous wedding was supposed to be between Knox and me.
Now our engagement was broken off, and Knox was getting engaged again—to my cousin Natasha, no less. This alone had created plenty of gossip.
With Natasha's shouting now, countless eyes turned our way.
Under everyone's gaze, Natasha deliberately said, "Helena, you knew Knox and I were in love, but you still forced yourself between us and took Knox away from me."
"You separated Knox and me, but after you two got together, you didn't cherish him at all. You turned around and latched onto Mr. Lancaster, dumped Knox, and even sent him to jail."
"All of that aside, today you knew it was Knox's and my engagement party, yet you came here to cause trouble!"
