Chapter 108: Accompany Me to a Blind Date?
What a hypocritical and contrived speech - truly heart-wrenching to hear
Too bad her little performance might work on Knox, but it didn't work at all on Atlas.
"Serenity, you're quite self-aware. Since that's the case, don't make such basic mistakes again next time."
"I..."
Atlas's words instantly made Serenity's eyes well up with tears. She looked at me timidly, hoping I would speak up for her.
I wanted to applaud Atlas - how could I possibly speak up for her?
Seeing that both Maria and I were on Atlas's side, she could only say with tears in her eyes, "I'll remember that."
After saying this, she held back her tears and said goodbye to Maria and me. After she left, Maria shook her head and said, "When I first met Serenity, I thought she was pretty nice, but looking at her now, she's way too scheming - not as good as Natasha."
"So, Mom, you shouldn't get too close to her in the future."
Maria nodded quickly, "I know, I know. Same goes for you. Why did you agree to go with her on this blind date? I don't think Serenity is a good person - who knows what trouble might come up during the date."
"What's there to be afraid of? I'm actually hoping she does cause trouble - if she dares to make a move, I can finally settle the score with her!"
I haven't forgotten about the Quincy incident yet.
Seeing me like this, Maria shook her head disapprovingly. "Look at you, getting more and more ridiculous. What settling scores? I just hope you'll be safe."
I smiled and acted cute. "I will be, Mom. Don't worry."
"Maybe I should go with you after all."
Seeing Atlas joining in, I turned to look at him reproachfully. "Come on, I'm just going with her on a blind date, not into a lion's den."
"I'm afraid Antony won't fancy her but will fancy you instead."
Atlas's words made me blush. I saw Maria watching the fun with amusement.
I quickly said, "Shouldn't you head back to the company? You've been out for quite a while."
"Alright, I'll head back then. But how about I keep you company tonight?"
"Really not necessary. Go take care of your work."
After sending Atlas away, I turned around to see Maria's face full of smiles.
"Mom, he's gone. You can stop looking."
Maria said with a grin, "Actually, Atlas is pretty good. Helena, why don't you two try dating?"
"We will, but not now. Right now, you need to come help me pick out an outfit."
With that, I pushed Maria into the room. Maria helped me choose a blue dress - conservative yet elegant. After changing, it wasn't long before Serenity's message came through.
Looking at the address, I saw it was quite far from my place, so I called the driver to leave early.
"Helena, are you sure you don't want me to send someone with you?"
I bent down to change my shoes while saying, "No need, Mom. Having the driver along is enough."
"Alright then. Be careful and come back quickly when it's over. Don't delay."
Seeing how worried Maria was, I smiled and replied, "Don't worry, Mom. Nothing will happen."
When I got in the car, Atlas also sent me a message.
I replied and then closed my eyes to rest.
In my past life, this blind date with Serenity never happened. When Serenity was found in my past life, I was already married to Knox.
But in this life, I was the one who made Serenity get found by John earlier, so many things have changed because of this change.
But so what? It doesn't stop me from getting my revenge.
Along the way, as I was dozing off with my eyes closed, the car stopped.
"Ms. Lockwood, we're here."
I acknowledged and opened my eyes to get out.
After getting out, I saw an anxious figure waving at me at the entrance. "Helena, over here."
It was Serenity. I walked toward her.
When I reached her, she naturally hooked her arm through mine. "Helena, you're finally here. I thought you weren't coming - I've been waiting forever."
A wave of disgust rose in my heart. I calmly pulled my arm out of hers.
"We agreed on this. I'm not someone who goes back on their word."
Serenity acted as if she didn't understand what I meant and quickly walked inside. She poked her head out to look, then quickly turned to me. "Helena, Antony is already here."
"Since he's here, let's go over."
With that, I strode over briskly.
"Helena, Helena, slow down - I can't keep up."
I completely ignored Serenity's calls behind me. After a few steps, I stood in front of the table and said to a young, thin man, "You're Antony, right?"
"Yes, are you Serenity?"
Antony stood up and extended his hand toward me.
"This is Serenity. I'm her cousin, Helena."
With that, I pulled Serenity out from behind me.
Serenity shyly raised her head and greeted Antony. "Hello, I'm Serenity."
Antony was stunned for a moment, then said naturally, "Hello, I'm Antony."
Antony quickly pulled out chairs. "Please, have a seat."
After sitting down, Serenity glanced at Antony and said shyly, "This is my first time on a blind date. I was a bit scared, so I asked Helena to come with me."
"I understand, I understand."
I could tell this Antony had a good personality - patient, reserved, yet steady.
"What would you like to drink? I'll have them bring it."
"I'm fine with anything. You decide."
After Serenity finished speaking, she looked at me. "Helena, what about you? What would you like?"
"A latte."
After ordering, I fell silent. Antony and Serenity were chatting happily, and I could hear Serenity's soft voice from time to time.
I was a bit bored, so my eyes wandered around.
It was dinner time, and the restaurant was quite crowded. Under the reflection of the huge chandelier, a pianist was playing beautiful music.
Just as I was about to look away, I noticed a man staring intently at me.
I looked more carefully. This man had a frivolous manner - I didn't know him.
Seeing my gaze, the man raised his glass and made a toasting gesture.
Just then, a waiter came over and placed the coffee I ordered on the table.
"Thank you."
I looked away and took a small sip, just in time to hear Antony ask Serenity, "What do you usually do at home?"
Serenity replied softly, "I just returned to the Lockwood family. Dad is teaching me about company management, but I'm so stupid - I really can't learn anything."
Antony quickly comforted her. "No, I don't think you're stupid at all. You're just not familiar with this work yet since you're just starting. Take it slow, and you'll definitely get it."
"Really?"
Serenity blinked her big eyes, making Antony feel embarrassed, but he still nodded encouragingly. "Really. Look at me, for example."
"When my older brother Oliver was my age, he was already managing five companies, but I can't even manage one. Oliver always calls me stupid, but there's nothing I can do - I'm just not good at management."
Could he say such things to an outsider? Antony really was naive.
I wonder if the Turner family protected Antony too well, or if he's really that simple.
