Chapter 11 Chapter 11

Chapter 11 Chapter 11
Amelia

“Look at the one in the corner, he has been staring at you all evening,” Adele shouted over the music. The club was loud, packed, and glowing with neon lights. We have been in Paris for over three weeks now, my business deal wrapped up days ago but we decided to stay a little longer before heading back to New York.

Tonight, Adele dragged me out to one of the most popular clubs in the city. She claimed she needed a man to help her finally get Killian out of her head, so here we were. And of course, she already had her chosen Prince Charming for the night sitting close beside her, hanging on to every word.

Meanwhile, she kept scanning the VIP area, determined to pick someone out for me, even though I had told her more than once that I wasn’t in the mood. But Adele being Adele, she wasn’t giving up that easily.

“He looks so naïve. I am not about to start teaching a grown man how to handle himself,” I said, leaning closer so Adele could hear me.

Every guy she pointed at tonight got the same reaction from me. It wasn’t her fault, my mind kept drifting back to Maxwell Sinclair. After experiencing a man like him, everything else felt bland. Like going backwards.

Adele shot me a knowing smile. “Wow. Maxwell really did a number on you.”

I rolled my eyes. “This isn’t about Maxwell,” I insisted, though even I knew it wasn’t completely true. “I’m just not in the mood tonight.”

And I really wasn’t, something felt off in my body, like my energy had dropped. No urge to dance, no desire to drink, no spark of interest in anyone. Just this strange heaviness I couldn’t explain.

Adele shot me a look that clearly said she didn’t believe a word I had just said. “Here,” she insisted, pushing a drink into my hand. “Take this, you will feel alive again.”

I sighed and lifted the cup, planning to take just a sip. But the moment the smell reached my nose, my stomach flipped. A wave of nausea hit so fast it scared me. I dropped the cup on the table and rushed toward the bathroom.

The second I stepped inside, I was on my knees, vomiting everything I had left. Adele appeared right beside me, holding my hair back, rubbing my back while I kept heaving until my body was empty and weak.

“Girl…” she whispered, worry written all over her face. “We need to stop by that store we passed. I am pretty sure it’s still open. We have to get a pregnancy test, you have been like this for days and that’s the only possibility I think this is.”

Even though part of me couldn’t believe pregnancy was even possible, the thought crawled into my mind. Could it really happen? After all, in my past life Declan had forced that doctor to remove my womb or so I believed. I never had the chance to go to the hospital and confirm if that truly happened. And now, I wasn’t sure what to think.

I didn’t argue with Adele, I didn’t have the strength. We went straight to the store, bought a pregnancy test, and hurried back to the hotel. The moment we entered the room, we headed for the bathroom.

I followed every step quietly, my hands slightly shaking. When I sat down to wait, my heart thudded in my chest. And deep inside, I found myself hoping it came out positive. I don’t care about anything right now, I would happily raise a child alone rather than let any man drag me through the kind of hell Declan once did.

After a few moments, we finally checked the test. Positive.

My eyes instantly filled with tears, and when I looked up, Adele was already watching me with a soft, heartbroken expression.

“Oh, girl” she breathed. “I am so sorry this is happening. I thought you took the morning-after pill the day you got back from his place.”

I ran out of the bathroom and threw myself onto the bed, burying my face in my hands.

Adele didn’t hesitate, she climbed onto the bed beside me and gently took my hand.

“I know this is a lot,” she said softly. “A baby is huge news, and getting pregnant for a man whose marriage you practically destroyed is scary. knowing he might ever accept this baby. But whatever choice you make, I am right here with you.”

Her tenderness made me laugh, a full laugh burst out of me, surprising both of us.

“Easy, girl,” I said, wiping my eyes. “I am not sad at all. I’m keeping this baby.”

Adele blinked like I had just told her the sky was green. “You are keeping the baby for a man who definitely holds a grudge against you? A man whose marriage and reputation you nearly blew up?”I nodded without hesitation.

“This is my second chance,” I said quietly but firmly. “And I am not wasting it. Maxwell Sinclair will never know this baby is his. I will raise my child with so much love she will never feel the absence of a father.”

I meant every word, I refused to let this baby suffer the way Amy once did. She would never have to beg for attention or cry for affection. She would never feel unwanted.

Adele stared at me, then shook her head dramatically. “That man’s dick must have reset your whole brain. One minute you are talking about living your best life, and the next you are ready to be a mom? Girl, I can’t keep up.”

I smiled because she wasn’t wrong. Everything inside me had shifted fast and deep. And it wasn’t just motherhood. I had already made up my mind, I wasn’t going back to New York anytime soon. I would stay here in France, build my life and run my business from here, at least until my baby was big and strong.
For once, my future didn’t scare me. It felt like hope.

Author's note: I told you guys🤭🤭, but is Maxwell going to give up, neverrr😂😂
