Chapter 59 Unpredictable
The following day.
After breakfast, Mira and Lena were getting ready for their trip to the hospital for prenatal and to the mall. By 8:30 they were already finished dressing and waiting for Luna Rosie to enter the room and inform them that they are leaving.
“Are you excited about going to the mall?” Lena asked Mira.
Mira smiled. “Yeah. I hope nothing bad will happen to me today in the mall,” she said anxiously. Being in the company of an emotionally unstable woman like Luna Rosie filled her heart with dread.
“Are you afraid Luna Rosie might hurt you?” Lena asked, studying her face.
Mira took a deep breath. “Yeah, very much. Given how moody and unpredictable she is.”
“Don’t worry, she might be mean to you when no one is watching but I'm sure when we are out there in the mall she will not harass you because it’s a public place. She would not make a spectacle and put herself at the center of a humiliating situation of her own making. That would be a stupid move on her part, and she is not that stupid,” Lena said reassuringly.
Mira smiled. “I hope so. I just want to leave the mansion for a few hours and buy baby clothes.”
“Don’t worry everything will be alright,” Lena assured her, patting her arms gently.
Half an hour later, the connecting door opened and Luna Rosie entered the room wearing jeans and a plain white blouse.
“Girls, are you ready?” she asked.
“Yes we are,” Mira and Lena replied in chorus.
“Alright, let’s go!” Luna Rosie said, leading the way.
Mira glanced briefly at her pet snake on the bed before she left the room. The snake nodded its head as if saying ‘Go now.’
They left the house and got into the family car and drove to the hospital for a check up.
After a few minutes' drive they finally reached their destination. The women entered the hospital and went to the OB-GYN's office.
“Good morning, Doc,” Luna Rosie and Mira greeted the physician.
“Good morning, girls,” the doctor replied and checked Luna Rosie’s records. “You are in your 6th month. We will do the usual checkup and then an ultrasound for the baby.”
Mira sat on the chair for a physical check up and the doctor conducted some tests.
After the test was done, the doctor asked Mira, “How are you feeling today?” she asked.
“I’m feeling fine, doc,” Mira replied.
“Good. Um, how about the previous days?” the doctor continued.
“I'm fine, no serious illness at all. Just sometimes I feel dizzy, but it usually goes away after I sip ginger tea or take a nap,” Mira answered.
“Great. Glad to know that,” the doctor said with a smile. “Alright, let’s go to the next room for the sonogram.”
The women went to the next room where the ultrasound machine was located.
In the ultrasound room, the doctor instructed Mira to get on the bed.
The ultrasound technician started the sonogram process.
A few minutes later, Mira and Luna Rosie finally saw the silhouette of the fetus on the monitor screen. The fetus was moving inside the womb.
“Congratulations. Your baby is growing well. Both you and your baby are healthy,” the doctor told Mira.
Mira smiled brightly. “Thank you, doc.”
Luna Rosie smiled in delight beneath the veil, grateful that her baby was growing well even if she wasn't in her own body. Watching the happiness plastered on Mira’s face, she couldn't help but feel angry and jealous at the same time, a deadly combination.
She should have been the one enjoying motherhood right now, but because of the soul swap, she was suffering from negative emotions over and over again.
Dammit, the maid was enjoying her life.
She could only stare and watch as another person took over her life and she felt like dying.
It's so unfair!
Intense anger gripped her heart. She wanted to hurt Mira badly. Her hands turned into fists at her side. She shut her eyes, trying to regain control of her raging emotions. Her heart beat erratically in her rib cage.
Calm down. Calm down. Calm down.
She quickly applies deep breathing, inhaling and exhaling fresh air into her lungs to regain control of her senses.
After a few minutes of deep breathing, anger finally subsided.
She opened her eyes and listened as Mira conversed with the doctor animatedly, discussing her baby.
She bit her lower lip in agony. She is desperate to get her body back, but how?
She couldn't bear watching Mira and the doctor anymore. Her heart was still hammered with anger and jealousy. She had to leave the room or else she would explode.
She grabbed the door handle and quietly left the room, feeling beaten inside.
She sat on a chair in the hallway, waiting for the ultrasound session to end. As she pondered her difficult situation, she realized that being in a new body was her new normal.
If they can’t find anyone who can perform the soul swap between her and Mira, then she will be stuck in Mira’s body until she grows old and dies.
Either she will embrace her new self and slowly let go of her past identity. Or she will continue to suffer from extreme mood swings, intense and consuming anger that makes her want to kill Mira on the spot. She will never get to enjoy long lasting peace in her life again if the rage inside her cannot be extinguished.
But how can she let go of her body and her identity?
How can she let go of her own baby, her own flesh and blood?
If she finally embraces Mira’s identity, she will have to give up her first baby.
Mira will raise her baby as her own, and her baby will call Mira her mother.
Ouch! That hurts terribly.
Nooooooo!
She can’t accept this fucking annoying shift in her fate.
This needs to change!
Tears sprang from her eyes, falling down her cheeks. She wipes them with the back of her hands.
She lowered her head and covered her face with her handkerchief, hiding her tear-stricken eyes from the eyes of the passerby.
She cried silently, allowing grief and anguish to consume her heart. If she doesn't cry, her heart will explode due to so much anger and desolation she feels inside.
After crying for a few minutes, her anger finally subsided.
She took a deep breath and allowed serenity to claim her turbulent mind and heart.
She needs to make a new plan.
After the plastic surgery, her husband will marry her. She no longer had to hide her identity as Mira the maid who married Alpha Gideon. But Mira will continue to raise their child against her will.
In order not to suffocate in pain and jealousy watching her baby be raised by another woman, the best thing to do is conceive another baby with her husband. A baby she can finally call her own.
Maybe having a baby of her own would solve all her emotional problems.
‘But what if your husband develops feelings for Mira? What will you do?’
The question came out of nowhere and hit her like a ton of bricks.
‘What if your husband fell in love with Mira?’
The question persisted in her mind, forcing her to answer it.
She shut her eyes and took a deep breath. She was faced with the reality that her husband would have two wives competing for his affection. When her baby comes out, her husband will naturally bond with their baby and he will be in contact with Mira frequently.
How can she, with a plain face, compete with the beautiful and sexy Mira to gain her husband's love and attention?
That’s why she needs to get pregnant fast!
However, her husband wouldn’t touch her intimately because of her ugly face. Kissing her lips would repulse him. He can’t even look at her face for a long time.
That’s why scar surgery needs to happen soon. Six months recovery period is too long but it will do. With her scar-free face, maybe her husband would finally be willing to make love to her.
‘What if your husband fell in love with Mira? What will you do?’
Damn, the question persisted. She was trying to divert her mind not to think about the damning question but it wouldn't leave her alone because she still refused to give a direct answer.
She needs to face her worst fear now!
‘What will I do?” she asked herself.
A plan slowly formed in her mind. She would kill Mira and get rid of her for good so that she could finally have her husband’s love and attention all for herself. She could also get her baby back as well.
After having a clear plan, the question finally stopped appearing in her mind.
But wait a minute…
Killing Mira also means killing her body. She really doesn't want to kill her body, but what is the use of her body if other souls benefit from it? Her body becomes useless to her.
It will be the last thing she needs to do, her last course of action. If the time will come when her husband betrays her, and then he starts abandoning her and gets chummy with Mira, that is the time she will make her move and eliminate her rival for good.
She will fight for her rights as the oppressed one.
She will fight for her husband and her baby!
She will defy the will of the Moon Goddess and take matters into her own hands.
The Moon Goddess has to stop playing with her destiny!
She won’t tolerate it anymore.
Killing Mira was her alternative plan for the future.
But she was fervently hoping and wishing that they could find a powerful shaman that could perform the soul swap so she didn't have to kill her body someday.
Hopefully so.
A few minutes later, the door finally opened. Mira and the doctor came out of the ultrasound room and they returned to the doctor’s office.
Mira and the doctor talked for a few minutes more, discussing vitamins and safe exercise activities for pregnant women. Then the doctor finally concluded their conversation and told Mira to return for a prenatal checkup next month.
Luna Rosie and Mira left the room and joined Lena in the lobby of the hospital.
“Time for shopping, girls!” Luna Rosie announced in a cheerful tone.
“Let’s go,” Mira responded in glee.
The women get back into their car and proceed to the nearest mall for shopping.
