Chapter 99

Chapter 99

There might be another Lilith, but that didn't fall under his purview for the time being.

"I don't know! I really don't know!" Richard looked at the dark muzzle of the gun, trembling all over with fear, and argued at the top of his lungs. "It might be the Moretti Family! It's Lilith! Yes! It must be her! She's also connected to Hall! She wants to sow discord between us! Jacob, you mustn't fall for it!"

"Lilith?" Jacob's eyes turned sharp. "It seems you know quite a lot."

Richard realized he had let something slip and became even more flustered.

He raised the gun, aimed it at the area above Richard's right knee, and did not hesitate at all.

The sound of gunfire was particularly shrill in the empty restaurant.

Richard let out a shrill scream, rolling on the ground while clutching his right knee, which had been shot through. Blood quickly soaked through his pajama pants and the carpet beneath him. The intense pain contorted his face, and tears and snot streamed down.

"Jacob! Are you crazy! You lunatic! For a woman! You actually shot me! I'm your elder brother!" He screamed and cursed furiously, completely losing his mind due to extreme fear and pain.

Jacob looked on coldly at his painful struggle, as if watching a dying bug.

He put away his gun, turned around, and ordered his men who had come with him, "Take him to the hospital and don't let him die. Keep an eye on him. Without my permission, no one is allowed to visit, and he is not allowed to leave the ward even half a step."

"Yes, Mr. Smith."

On a sunny afternoon at the amusement park, it is filled with the laughter and screams of children.

Jack held Elizabeth's finger tightly with one hand and clutched the newly bought cartoon cotton candy in the other. His little face was full of excitement and contentment, and his eyes sparkled as he looked at the carousel and the tall Ferris wheel in the distance.

Elizabeth, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, followed Jack quietly, her gentle gaze resting on him.

Lynx and two other Nightfall members, disguised as tourists, were scattered around, vigilantly keeping an eye on everything.

There were also several bodyguards openly guarding around Elizabeth.

It could be said that it was very safe.

Jack pointed to the ice cream truck not far away, looked up with a small face, and looked at Elizabeth full of expectation.

"You can only eat a small one." Elizabeth bent down, wiped the cotton candy strands from the corner of his mouth, and whispered a reminder.

Jack nodded vigorously.

Elizabeth took his hand and led him toward the ice cream truck. As they waited in line, her eyes accidentally glanced across a side road nearby, and her pupils suddenly contracted.

Charles, her biological father was at this moment walking out of that path, arm around a young girl who looked no more than twenty years old, dressed in a seductive manner. Charles had a smug smile on his face, and his hand was restlessly caressing the girl's waist.

It was a scene it was almost nauseating.

Elizabeth subconsciously stepped sideways, pulling Jack behind her, while lowering the brim of her hat, eager to leave as soon as possible to avoid meeting Charles face to face.

She didn't want to deal with the sordid entanglement with Charles in front of Jack right now.

Charles obviously saw her too. The smile on his face froze instantly, a hint of panic and embarrassment flashed in his eyes, and then he pretended to be calm and averted his gaze.

He obviously didn't want to meet his daughter, with whom he was in a fierce dispute, on such an occasion, especially when he was with his new lover.

He quickly averted his gaze, pretending not to see, then put his arm around the girl and tried to hurry away in another direction.

At this moment, there was an eerie tacit understanding between father and daughter—both wanted to treat each other as if they were air.

However, at the very moment Charles turned around and took a step, the situation suddenly changed!

A man wearing a mask, who had emerged from behind the nearby bushes at some point, moved as swiftly as a ghost. A cold glint flashed in his hand as he lunged straight for Charles' back!

Elizabeth's nerves had been in a state of alert, and the moment the man appeared, she sensed that something was wrong.

That movement, that look—he's not an ordinary thug; he's a professional killer!

Her first instinct wasn't to save Charles. It was to secure Jack.

She suddenly shielded Jack completely behind her, and at the same time, her body tensed up, ready to deal with any danger that might come their way.

But the assassin had a singular target.

Charles was caught off guard. There was a sound like cloth tearing, followed immediately by his cry of pain!

Because he dodged in a hurry, the killer's knife did not hit a vital spot, but deeply gashed his right arm which was around his female companion! Blood gushed out instantly, staining the sleeve of his expensive suit, and the girl let out a shrill scream.

The killer's first strike failed to deliver a fatal blow. He seemed a bit surprised, but his movements didn't pause at all. With a flip of his wrist, the second knife was about to slash towards Charles' neck!

In the blink of an eye, Elizabeth moved.

She couldn't just sit there and watch Charles die like this!

It was not out of family affection, nor was it a desire to save him. Rather, it's that he must not die!

He must not die at the hands of others!

He must not die in such an inexplicable way!

Her revenge, she would take it with her own hands!

She wanted him to experience, clearly, painfully, and with nothing left, the despair of her past life!

He must pay with his life for her unborn child and pay the price for Hughes' wrongful accusation!

His life must end at her hands!

"Jack, close your eyes!" She shouted in a low voice, pushed Jack toward Lynx, and then, like an arrow released from a bowstring, darted forward fiercely!

The killer's blade was about to touch Charles' terrified, contracted neck when Elizabeth arrived!

Using the momentum from her charge, Elizabeth's right leg lashed out like a whip, striking the killer's wrist holding the knife with precise and ruthless force!

A dull thud.

The killer's wrist was in severe pain, causing the blade to deviate from its path. It grazed Charles' neck, leaving only a shallow bloodstain, but it scared him out of his wits. His legs gave way, and he collapsed to the ground.

The killer missed his strike, saw that Elizabeth was skilled, and noticed that people around seemed to be reacting and gathering toward them. He made a quick decision not to linger, roughly pushed away his frightened female companion, turned around, and sprinted toward the dense forest deep in the park. In a few leaps, he disappeared among the trees.

Elizabeth did not chase.

Her top priority was to ensure Jack's safety, and the second was to confirm that Charles was not dead.

She quickly returned to Jack, tightly hugged him—who was still a bit confused but obediently kept his eyes closed—and patted his back to comfort him: "It's okay, Jack, it's okay. Mom is here."

Then, she coldly glanced at Charles, who was sprawled on the ground.

He was clutching his bleeding arm, his face as pale as a ghost, trembling in fear.

Charles, still in shock, looked at Elizabeth, then at Jack, who was safe in her arms. Thinking back to her fierce kick just moments ago, a ridiculous sense of relief surged in his heart.
