Chapter 91 Donating Blood for Sabrina
Chapter 91 Donating Blood for Sabrina
Andrew's self-righteous tone made me deeply uncomfortable.
Whether I actually owed Sabrina anything was still up for debate. Maybe when the truth came out, it would turn out Uncle Herman had set me up. After all, you could never underestimate a parent's love for their child. It wasn't impossible that Uncle Herman had sacrificed himself to save Sabrina.
Before I could voice my objection, Nicholas's cold voice cut through the room first.
"Is that so? I heard Ms. Kingley also has RH-negative blood. Catherine suffered serious injuries and needs transfusions too. Why doesn't Ms. Kingley have some self-awareness and donate blood to Catherine?"
As his words landed, both Sabrina and Andrew's faces changed drastically.
Sabrina's face went ghostly pale as she shrank behind Andrew. In front of the four Rosewood brothers, she'd always maintained that fragile, vulnerable image. But what was the reality? I sneered inwardly.
Andrew protected her fiercely, as if we were irredeemable villains.
"Nicholas, this is a family matter!" Andrew snapped.
I chimed in at the perfect moment. "Didn't James tell you? We're not family anymore."
Nicholas stood in front of me too, silently facing off against Andrew. I tugged at the corner of his shirt, signaling that I was fine and he didn't need to worry.
Having been so openly humiliated, Andrew found it difficult to maintain his composure.
Sabrina keenly seized the opportunity to stir trouble. She peeked out from behind Andrew. "Catherine, we just wanted to show we care. Whatever you think, our intentions were good. Andrew's just concerned about my health. It's fine if you don't want to save me, but there's no need to disown Andrew too, is there? How can you be so heartless?"
She used the most innocent tone to accuse me. Andrew, already furious, looked even darker.
Nicholas and I had developed an unspoken understanding. We both showed them identical expressions of disdain.
"The Rosewood family and I cut ties long ago. Sabrina, your words mean nothing. As for your so-called visit, I didn't see any concern—only your selfish motives."
Nicholas followed up immediately, glancing at them both. "Next time I catch you here, don't blame me for draining every drop of blood from Sabrina's body."
The air in the room seemed to evaporate in an instant. Even Andrew, who'd spent years navigating the business world, didn't dare say another word.
I glanced at his aggrieved, resentful expression and felt utterly satisfied.
"We're leaving!"
Andrew glared at us viciously, then turned and pulled Sabrina away in long strides.
After driving them off this time, I finally had some peace and quiet. The Rosewood family had lost their edge—how could they dare go toe-to-toe with the Harrington family now? And Nicholas might actually follow through on his threat to Sabrina.
Days passed, one after another. My physical injuries gradually healed.
Nicholas had arranged everything thoroughly, even getting me a new phone. Blake had helped me request sick leave from work. When he visited, he'd passed along well-wishes from several colleagues.
These weren't huge gestures, but they nourished my heart, which had withered bit by bit because of the Rosewood family. The world didn't seem so terrible after all.
The only people who wanted me dead were the Rosewoods. Well, I refused. I'd live right in front of them, living boldly and brilliantly.
When Anna came, I was already attempting simple designs on my tablet. I hadn't picked up a pen during my recovery. Now, taking up my stylus again, the designs unfurled before me almost instinctively.
"Catherine."
Anna pushed the door open, pulling me out of my immersive state. Seeing her, I couldn't help but smile with genuine joy. "Anna!"
She seemed moved too and hurried over. Anna grabbed me, looking me up and down carefully.
Her gaze was fundamentally different from James's. Anna's eyes were moist, full of worry and heartache. And James? My mind couldn't help replaying that scene again.
On that familiar face, all I'd seen was impatience and displeasure. He hadn't cared how badly I was hurt—he'd only hoped to find a gap somewhere in all those layers of gauze where he could insert a needle and draw blood.
The wounds to my heart weren't so easily healed. Thinking about it now, my eyes still reddened.
Anna mistakenly thought she'd touched one of my injuries and quickly stepped back to maintain distance. "Did I hurt you? Does it hurt? I'm so sorry, Catherine."
I proactively took her hand, shaking my head with a smile. "No, I'm just really happy to see you."
Anna relaxed slightly. We exchanged pleasantries, then I remembered what Nicholas had told me and asked with concern, "The Johnson family hasn't given you trouble, have they?"
Anna froze for a moment. I guessed she was wondering why I'd ask that. I told her everything I'd heard.
After my explanation, Anna looked thoughtful. She answered my earlier question. "No, the Johnson elders are still furious. If Edward does something stupid, they might actually follow through and disown him."
Anna had regained her composure, her voice returning to its usual cool tone.
I nodded and asked about her plans. Anna pondered for a long moment before speaking. "Catherine, how did you hold off Liam before? That day we met—I know Nicholas helped you with Edward, but what about Liam? Liam's a psycho. Whenever Edward and I are apart, he always shows up in the most unexpected ways. But that day, he didn't appear."
My heart sank. Had this day finally come?
I pressed my lips together, unsure how to tell Anna the truth. Technically, we were allies now. We'd even faced death together. I shouldn't be hiding things from her.
But nobody liked being manipulated. And Anna was a friend I'd gained through manipulation, step by step.
She didn't understand my hesitation, only kept reassuring me it was okay to be direct. "Do you know something?"
I felt guilty, testing the waters carefully. Anna's confusion deepened, and she was equally perceptive. "You're hiding something from me?"
I couldn't meet her eyes.
Anna understood. "If you don't tell me, I'll just overthink it. You might as well be straight with me."
All kinds of chaotic thoughts flooded my mind. In the end, I chose to come clean.
"Okay, I'll tell you."
I explained everything about how I'd met Anna, including the parts I'd previously hidden. At this point, continuing to hide things would be completely disingenuous.
I was about to apologize when Anna suddenly spoke. "Catherine, do you know Liam had another lover before me?"
