Chapter 153 Forgot to Attach the Wire

Chapter 153 Forgot to Attach the Wire
Luna overheard Riley’s blunt comment — a completely harmless statement, but to someone without context, it meant disaster.

She immediately sprang in front of him, arms outstretched like a guard dog.
“Where are you taking her? She may be dazzlingly beautiful, but you’re—”
Luna stared him up and down, scrambling for vocabulary.
“—you’re not exactly the… masculine type, so you still can’t touch her!”

For the first time, Riley felt personally offended by being called unmanly.

“Idiot, move.”
He didn’t bother with a full sentence; the insult was enough.

“No way!”
Luna stomped her foot.
The impact rattled the leaves like a mini-earthquake.

Zane’s heart, which had just begun calming, started racing again.
This wasn’t stomping — it was seismic.

Riley rolled his eyes, completely unfazed.
“I like men!”

Luna froze.

Riley pushed her arm aside and pulled Lia along with him.

As they passed, Lia shot Luna a warning glare.

Luna tilted her head, staring after Riley.
Suddenly, in her eyes, Riley possessed more feminine grace than most women.

⸻

Given Lia’s current status, the production wouldn’t give her a dressing room.
But Riley had one.

Wherever Riley went, people fawned over him more than movie stars.
Even though his actor today was only filming for one day, the crew still treated him like royalty.

Inside Riley’s luxurious rest area, Lia nearly fell asleep in the warm Jacuzzi tub.
Then she jolted awake, remembering the upcoming scene.

The costume for the scene was simple.

She had arrived in the country wearing a white gown resembling a wedding dress — she’d originally brought it just to please the King.
Yet she insisted on wearing it now.

She was one of several spies sent by her own Crown Prince.
She had been close to him since childhood… even loved him.
Wearing the gown was like marrying him.

When she left, she shed the gown and stood atop the city walls.

Guards below raised their swords toward her, desperate to kill her but too afraid to approach.

Lia smiled.

There was sorrow in the curve of her lips.

Behind her, the sky was a murky grey, clouds thick and heavy.
Through them, the sunset’s faint glow broke slowly.

She tilted her head back, letting the scattered orange light fall into her desolate eyes.

Wild geese flew overhead — reflected in her gaze.
She longed to be one of them.

Voices shouted near her, but she couldn’t hear.
Her eardrums had long been ruptured.
To her, the world was an eerie silence.

She spread her arms. The guards tensed instantly.

She did nothing.
She simply closed her eyes — her whole life had been an illusion.

Her body tilted back and fell from the city wall.

Facing the sky, she watched the wild goose until the final moment.
The Crown Prince’s face surfaced clearly in her mind.
For someone always cold and indifferent, a faint, greedy smile crept onto her lips before the ground rushed up.

Zane’s eyes burned with excitement behind the monitor.
Her final look — impossible without decades of training.

A newcomer could not possibly…

If only she can hold this emotion for the landing—

Suddenly, a dark figure shot into frame.

Its toes touched the ground only once before launching upward with inhuman force.
It caught Lia barely a metre above the ground, spun mid-air, and landed perfectly.

Luna set Lia down, took two steps back, dropped to one knee, and struck a dramatic knight’s pose.

“Your Highness, your knight is late.”

The entire set fell dead silent.

Actors on the wall stopped stabbing mid-air.
Extras holding swords, spears, and forks froze mid-action.

“Ah—”
Zane’s mouth hung open, his earlier awe calcifying into horror.
His throat clogged; no sound escaped.

Riley’s expression darkened.
What the hell is that idiot doing now?

Lia froze for a second — then fury erupted.
She smacked Luna on the head.
“Stop watching that trash! What is wrong with you? I just told you — I’m filming!”

Luna bounced upright so fast she shifted from one knee to both knees in a blink.

She cupped her hands to her chest like a scolded puppy.
“I… I saw you falling, Madam! I was scared you’d get hurt! If anything happened, Mr. Müller would rage — and when he rages, everyone suffers! And if the coaches found out I stood there doing nothing, they’d—”

“Shut up!”

Lia’s temples throbbed.

“How did you come up with that?!”

“I…” Luna sniffed.
“I’m always with you, Madam. I pick things up.”

“So you’re the menace I created?”

“Yes!”
She admitted it proudly.

Lia finally understood how Lukas must feel whenever she deliberately acted spoiled.

She wanted to strangle her.

Lia dragged a hand through her hair and forced herself to calm.
“Listen. This is filming. There are safety measures. Nothing can happen to me. I was attached to a wire harness. Do you know what that is? It’s—”

Her hand slid behind her waist.

Through the costume, she felt only the harness straps.
No wire.

Her face drained of colour.

Where were the wires?!

Had she truly jumped off a city wall completely unprotected?

If Luna hadn’t grabbed her, she might’ve shattered her spine.

“What’s wrong?” Zane asked, approaching with Riley.

Lia’s voice trembled.
“The crew forgot to attach my wire harness.”

Zane froze.
Riley dropped to one knee, checking her carefully for injuries.

“Where’s the props team?! How can you forget something like that?!”

The props team leader had already stepped out, but a woman responded nervously:
“It was an oversight… We were rushing before the take and forgot.”

Zane rolled up his script and tapped her forehead with it.
“Are you trying to kill someone?!”

The woman paled and rushed to gather crew to fix the harness.
