Chapter 79 She Can Only Be His Woman
"Who the heck are you? This is a direct order from Mr. Smith. And who do you think you are?" Milo was adamant about following his superior's instructions to protect James.
Right now, he was fiercely defending James.
"Are you in cahoots with this woman? Perfect, we've been looking for her accomplice. Guards, grab them both!" Milo signaled, and security guards immediately surrounded them.
Daniel's gaze was intense as he looked at James, a cold smile playing on his lips. "James, you've got some nerve. I'm standing right here. Do you really think you can arrest me?"
"Daniel, that's not what I meant!"
James was terrified of taking the blame and hurried to deny it.
He turned to Milo with a cold stare, all traces of his usual gentleness gone. "Are you blind? How dare you speak to Daniel like that?"
James's mention of Daniel's name shocked everyone present.
"Is this the mysterious Mr. Smith? I can't believe I'm seeing him in person."
Someone whispered in astonishment.
Even if Milo had never met Daniel, he had heard of him.
The mysterious, ruthless, decisive Daniel was standing right in front of him.
And he had just reprimanded him.
The realization made Milo's face pale, and he trembled all over. "Mr. Daniel Smith, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to imply you were this woman's accomplice. I was just following orders from Mr. James Smith. They say ignorance is no excuse, and I acknowledge my mistake. Please, don't hold it against me!"
James hadn't expected Milo to pin all the blame on him. His face darkened.
"Shut up. You're just a lowly assistant. How dare you speak to me like that? Don't think you'll keep your job after this."
Daniel snorted coldly. "Your arrogance is growing. Since when did you learn to shirk responsibility? And who gave you the authority to come here and start bossing people around without knowing the situation?"
He took a step closer to James.
James was so intimidated that he couldn't move.
"I'm the organizer, not you!"
James's face was ghastly pale, and he nearly collapsed.
Bianca could see that Daniel was defending Emily.
She must have used Floyd to get close to Daniel and bad-mouthed James.
"Mr. Smith, there's a misunderstanding. James came here out of concern for me. He thought he could help with the competition. That's when he noticed someone who shouldn't be here. He was just trying to uphold the rules of the competition."
Bianca stepped forward, suppressing her fear and explaining with a dignified air.
James gave Bianca a grateful look.
Her words gave James the confidence he needed. "Daniel, I'm not trying to throw my weight around. Emily broke the rules. She wasn't registered but somehow made it here."
"There are patients here today, and there's a free clinic. If she pretends to know what she's doing and causes harm, that's why I'm so angry."
He was quick to lie, eager to discredit Emily in front of everyone.
This was the James who had promised to protect her forever.
James immediately turned to Emily, his voice sharp. "You had the guts to admit you weren't registered. Now, say it in front of Daniel! And don’t lie; there are cameras."
Emily smiled confidently and replied, "I don't have a registration, but so what?"
"Daniel, you heard her. She admitted it..."
"Because I'm not a contestant. I'm a judge!"
"Impossible! Emily, if you're lying now, Mr. Smith won't protect a liar!" Bianca's first reaction was disbelief, her voice rising with the accusation.
James naturally didn’t believe it either.
Since he had grown closer to Bianca, he had stopped trusting Emily.
"Emily, I’ve overlooked your lies before, but this is too much. This is a serious event, and you lie so casually. You’ll be socially dead in this circle. Forget about practicing medicine."
People around looked at Emily with suspicion, some sneering in support of Bianca, while others believed in Emily’s sincerity.
Contestants were particularly concerned. If Emily was telling the truth, it could affect their scores.
"Short-sighted!" Daniel’s voice was cold and commanding. "Emily’s medical skills are exceptional. Having her as a judge is an honor for this competition."
This was a clear endorsement of Emily.
Daniel personally vouched for her.
No one dared question her anymore. They looked at Emily with admiration and respect.
A judge so young must be incredibly talented.
The contestants, all passionate about medicine, were eager to meet such a genius.
At that moment, the host reminded everyone that the competition was about to begin, and participants needed to take their places.
Emily took out her judge’s badge and put it on.
Bianca’s eyes widened in shock.
Emily had done it on purpose.
Absolutely.
"Emily, you had the badge all along. Why didn’t you show it? You just wanted to embarrass James. That’s so malicious. How can someone like you be a judge? How can anyone trust you?" Bianca clenched her fists, deliberately accusing her.
James’s face was also grim.
If Daniel wasn’t here, he would have questioned her himself to avoid Daniel’s displeasure.
Bianca’s accusation saved him the trouble.
Emily glanced mockingly at James, who didn’t dare speak up himself.
She mouthed a word: Coward!
Then she smiled. "Whether I show it or not is my choice. I’m here as a judge, not to be interrogated. Do you really think showing the badge would make you believe me?"
Emily’s smile widened. "You’d probably just accuse me of faking it, of using connections to get it."
She turned away from them.
She smiled at Daniel. "Mr. Smith, can we talk privately?"
Daniel smiled back. "Of course."
He made a gentlemanly gesture, and they walked side by side to the lounge.
James watched them intently, his jealousy simmering beneath the surface.
The breeze lifted Emily’s hair, making her slender figure even more graceful. Standing next to Daniel, they looked perfect together.
No!
Emily was his fiancée, his woman.
Daniel couldn’t possibly be interested in Emily.
James shook off the thought.
"James, James..."
Beside him, Bianca called his name several times, pulling him back to reality. "What, what is it?"
