Chapter 40: The Person I Dare Not Dream Of, Why Does She Deserve It?

Chapter 40: The Person I Dare Not Dream Of, Why Does She Deserve It?

"Mr. Smith!"

Bianca muttered to herself, still finding it hard to wrap her head around it.

She had seen him once from a distance while tailing James. Even though it was a fleeting moment, she was both impressed and intimidated.

She knew her own background and health issues, and someone like him was way out of her league. So, she never let herself dream big.

Now, seeing Emily actually chatting with that guy... No, Emily must have brazenly approached him.

See, in the end, Emily didn’t get in the car and was sent away, right?

Bianca comforted herself with these thoughts, her eyes dark as she watched Emily leave. She considered whether to go forward and investigate.

Then she noticed someone lurking around a corner in the direction Emily was heading.

Bianca's gloominess vanished, replaced by a twisted smile. She almost forgot about the call she had made.

Emily. Think you're all that, huh?

She wanted to see how Emily would wiggle out of this one.

"Show yourself!"

Emily had already walked up to the person secretly watching her and spoke calmly.

"Figures, I knew you had spotted us," said the leader, wearing a plain white T-shirt, blending in with the crowd.

As he stepped forward, his buddies took positions that blocked any possible escape routes for Emily.

"Yeah, I noticed you. So let's cut the crap. Who sent you?" Emily asked, her voice steady and calm.

The man chuckled, "I can tell you, sure. As long as you cooperate with us and head to that alley over there to take a few photos."

He pointed to a narrow, long alley nearby, which was less crowded and actually a dead end.

Emily showed no fear and said calmly, "Alright, let's go."

The man, surprised by her compliance, didn't need to use force and led her into the alley.

Soon, they reached the depths of the alley. Emily stopped.

The man exchanged glances with his companions. One started finding angles, and another took out a phone.

"Take off your clothes," the man said to Emily with a smile.

Emily's expression turned cold, "I never agreed to that."

The man, not expecting her sudden change of attitude, said coldly, "You don't have a choice."

His tone carried a threat, signaling his men to grab her.

Emily's smile grew, but her eyes remained cold, "Is that so? I think you're the one without a choice."

The man frowned, not understanding her meaning. He thought she must be a fool.

But soon, he realized.

He and his men suddenly couldn't move their limbs. When they tried, their legs gave out, and they collapsed to the ground.

"What did you do?" the man asked in terror, looking at Emily. They hadn't seen her do anything, yet they were paralyzed.

Emily didn’t intend to make things difficult for them, "When I approached you earlier, I accidentally administered a little drug. It's colorless and tasteless. Initially, it makes you feel like this. Soon, you'll recover, but tonight, you'll feel like thousands of ants are gnawing at you."

Then, you'll develop sores on your head and pus on your feet, feeling your body rot away. Don't think a hospital can help. I made sure it can't be detected."

The man's face turned pale, and his followers were even more terrified, shouting in panic. They were clearly afraid of dying.

"What do you want?" the man asked after a struggle.

"Simple. Take me to your boss. I assume the person who ordered you to do this wants photos to control me. I'll talk to him directly."

The man didn't expect Emily to be so smart. Emily had already guessed who was behind this.

"We can take you to him. We were supposed to bring you after taking the photos anyway. But can you give us the antidote first?" the man asked cautiously.

"Sure!" Emily waved her hand without hesitation, "You're free to move."

They moved and found that they could indeed move again.

The man, hiding his murderous intent, asked warily, "Aren't you afraid we'll harm you again?"

Emily smiled confidently, "You can try. See if you're faster than I am at administering drugs."

The man shivered, not daring to take the risk.

As Emily followed the men out of the alley, she didn't notice Daniel's car returning. His deep gaze fell on Emily's back.

"Mr. Smith, should I follow them?" York, his driver and bodyguard, asked worriedly. York had noticed Daniel's unusual interest in Emily recently.

Daniel rubbed his fingers and was about to get out of the car himself.

York, alarmed, stopped him, "Mr. Smith, you can't. The doctor said your body can't handle intense activity. It could worsen the poison in your bones!"

Emily had suppressed the poison in him to prevent it from spreading.

Daniel frowned, "Move."

His calm voice was like the calm before a storm, compelling York to comply.

Just as York was about to step aside, Daniel suddenly turned and got back in the car. York was puzzled. Why the sudden change?

Daniel coldly instructed, "Get in the car and follow them."

York got in, glancing at the alley. He saw Emily coming out unharmed, with those who had surrounded her now acting strangely, as if they feared her.

"Just as I thought..."

Daniel's lips curved slightly, unable to hide his smile.

York didn't hear his mutter but saw Daniel's smile in the rearview mirror.

"Mr. Smith, it looks like those people are afraid of Ms. Johnson," York said.

Daniel knew Emily wouldn't be easily controlled.

"Good observation," Daniel said.

York, unexpectedly praised, felt something was off.

Daniel reminded, "Keep your distance. She'll notice."

"Yes, sir."

York was confused. Could Daniel mean Emily? How could a young girl detect their tail?

But he didn't dare question Daniel and focused on the task.

Fortune Tower!

The car soon stopped at Fortune Tower. Seeing the building confirmed Emily's guess. Someone from the Reyes family wanted to see her.

"Call Mr. Reyes and tell him I'm here to see him."
