Chapter 262: Rescue Finally Arrives
"Then hurry up!"
Yosef was very pleased with Emily's cooperation and urged her on.
At this moment, York had already been kicked and was curled up on the ground.
Emily approached cautiously.
She stopped at an arm's length away from them.
She threw away the dagger. "I don't trust you, so you need to release him first. Now, let him go. There are so many of you - do you really think I can escape? Besides, York is injured!"
Yosef looked at Emily, who was now without any weapons, and waved his hand, signaling his men to drag York some distance away and then just throw him out.
"York, get out of here now!"
Emily quickly reminded him.
York knew this was a rare opportunity that Emily had fought for. He was injured now, and staying would only become a burden to Emily.
This time, York didn't hesitate. Despite the pain, relying on sheer willpower, he gritted his teeth and got up, running desperately toward the mountain.
Fortunately, Emily had told them about that small path up the mountain beforehand.
Both Emily and York knew that a desperate criminal like Yosef couldn't possibly let York go so easily.
Later, Yosef would definitely send people after him.
"Alright, beautiful, I really have taken a liking to you. Otherwise, do you think just any woman could make me soft-hearted and actually agree that if you come over and become my woman, I'd let your companion go? Now, be good and come into my arms, or I can have someone go catch your seriously injured friend right now."
Yosef's hateful face spoke threatening words.
Emily also wanted to buy York more time to escape.
She "obediently" approached Yosef, with a silver needle already discreetly sliding down her sleeve into her palm.
Emily deliberately moved slowly toward Yosef, making him focus his attention on her apparent "hesitation."
Sure enough, when Yosef saw this, he smiled somewhat wickedly. "Beautiful, you're just wasting effort doing this. Why not be more straightforward? Where did that decisiveness from earlier go? If you were like before, I might like you even more..."
Emily didn't give him a chance to finish. A silver needle was pressed directly against his neck, scaring him so much that he opened his mouth but couldn't get the rest of his words out.
"Let go of Yosef! Do you want to die?"
Everett hadn't expected that Emily would suddenly strike even in this situation, and with such skill - she had quietly taken control of Yosef.
He tried to threaten Emily.
He even said directly to Emily, "If you don't let Yosef go now, your friend won't survive either. Someone, go catch that man we just released."
Emily knew York was badly injured.
But someone like York, who had been specially trained, could endure pain that ordinary people couldn't bear as long as he had a breath left - his willpower was extraordinary.
She figured that by now, he should have run quite far.
Especially since they had a secret path leading up the mountain. In the time it took him to take this small path, even if these people went after him, they wouldn't find him right away.
Emily looked at Everett coldly and sneered. "Go ahead and try to catch him. I've already risked myself once to save him - my conscience is clear. But you'd better think carefully. If you send people after him now, Yosef won't survive either."
As she finished speaking, she pushed the needle in her hand half a point deeper into Yosef's neck, piercing right into his flesh.
Immediately, Yosef screamed in terror. After screaming, he started cursing in anger. "Bitch, you dare hurt me! Today you won't leave here alive. I'll make you experience every torture method we have here..."
"At a time like this, you still dare to talk big. Since you can't speak properly, then there's no need to talk at all."
Emily didn't want to hear Yosef's foul language. Another silver needle appeared in her other hand, and she stuck it directly into another pressure point on him, making him unable to speak.
Everett, seeing Emily's methods, finally became somewhat wary.
However, getting him to truly compromise was impossible.
After all, he had managed such a large operation, doing illegal things yet remaining safe until now - he was also a capable person.
"Calm down!"
Everett first tried to control his emotions, then spoke soothingly. "If you hurt Yosef and want to escape, with so many people here, you won't get away. How about we talk this through - what would it take for you to let Yosef go? I can also promise to let you leave safely!"
Everett thought Emily should agree to this demand.
After all, it seemed to meet both parties' needs.
But Emily knew very well that she now knew everything about this place - how could they possibly let her leave alive?
"Fine! Have all your people back off. Once I leave here, I'll release Yosef!"
Emily pulled Yosef back a step, her eyes sharp and fearless as she spoke.
"Alright, we can let you go, but you can't hurt Yosef!"
Everett finally made a concession.
He waved his hand, and those people automatically cleared a path.
Emily controlled Yosef while walking out.
There was only one passage leading out of here.
To get out, Emily naturally had to go through this passage with Yosef.
The people originally guarding the exit saw Emily had taken control of Yosef and made an aggressive move.
Everett followed behind. Emily didn't move, just glanced at Everett.
He had no choice but to order the guards, "Let her through, let her leave."
Emily looked at Everett with satisfaction, taking Yosef with her as she climbed over a slightly steep mountain path. Once out, she'd reach the main road.
Then she'd be safe.
Emily knew that these few dozen feet of mountain path were the key to whether she could get out alive.
Everett knew it too.
Everett kept following behind.
He and Yosef had a brief eye contact exchange - the two had some understanding, clearly planning to make their move on this path.
Because the path was rugged and steep, it would be easy to lose one's footing.
Suddenly, Everett pulled out a gun and fired a shot at Emily's head.
Fortunately, Emily had exceptional hearing. She tilted her head, and the bullet grazed past her ear.
It still injured her cheek though.
Everett was also experienced - when one shot failed, he immediately fired two more shots in succession.
Emily reacted even faster. She actually pulled Yosef in front to block the shots, then kicked Yosef down the slope.
"Yosef!"
Everett's expression changed drastically. He rushed forward to catch Yosef as he rolled down the mountain, while shouting frantically, "Catch that woman! Dead or alive!"
But just as his words fell.
Gunshots came from behind.
Emily had almost reached the top of the mountain by now. When she heard the gunshots, she looked back.
In the distance, she saw law enforcement officers coming from all directions - she didn't know when they had arrived. Her heart leaped with joy.
It seemed the people she was waiting for had arrived. In that case, she wasn't in a hurry to leave. She even considered whether to go back and tell them about the imprisoned people and their large stockpile of goods.
At this moment, Everett had already picked up the seriously injured Yosef.
Behind him, his subordinates came running in panic, shouting anxiously, "Mr. Everett Stevens, this is bad! The law enforcement team is here. We need to protect you and Mr. Yosef Stevens and leave now, or we really won't be able to escape."
Hearing the gunshots, Everett already had a bad feeling. At this moment, he made a quick decision and immediately ordered a retreat.
However, the law enforcement team had already surrounded the area. The only way they could escape was through a secret passage that outsiders didn't know about.
Just as Emily was hesitating about whether to go back, she caught a glimpse of what seemed to be Daniel's figure.
