Chapter 212: Night Visit, More of a Man's Things
"Did you do this?"
Emily watched Raina leave and couldn't help but call Daniel.
Daniel responded casually, "Yeah, I called her teacher and asked for a favor. Don't worry, she's not coming back tonight."
It was just a matter of promising some lab equipment. Such a small request, the other party had no reason to refuse.
Moreover, it didn't cause any loss to Raina, so the other party agreed quite readily.
Raina had no idea that she was being quietly manipulated.
The night was dark and windy, perfect for mischief.
Emily knew Raina had a habit of installing cameras everywhere.
She couldn't be sure there weren't any in Raina's room.
So before entering Raina's room, she used her computer to handle the issue.
Her fingers danced quickly over the keyboard, like a ballet.
Emily didn't hide her actions from Daniel, which showed her growing trust in him.
Daniel watched, increasingly impressed and amazed by Emily.
Just when he thought he knew her well enough, she always had new surprises for him.
Such an exceptional woman, how could the Johnson family mistake a pearl for a fish eye?
It could only be said that the Johnson family was blind.
"Alright, the surveillance is temporarily disabled. Once we leave, I'll cover this period with a video. She shouldn't notice."
Emily was thorough, ensuring no loose ends.
Daniel couldn't help but admire her meticulousness.
Daniel had already arranged for Raina's room key. He opened the door and went in first to ensure Emily's safety.
Emily thought he was being overly cautious. In today's world, there might not be any toxins that could harm her.
As for hidden dangers, that seemed unlikely.
Once inside, they quickly searched the room.
"Here!"
Emily suddenly found a plant on the desk that resembled a duck's bill, hence the name "duckweed."
"What's wrong with this herb?" Daniel frowned and asked.
"Raina and the person who drugged you last time are likely working together. They both prefer using mixed drugs. This herb alone isn't problematic, but mixed with your sandalwood's medicinal scent, it could be dangerous over time."
However...
Emily paused.
Under Daniel's puzzled gaze, her eyes grew colder.
"This poison won't harm you much now, probably due to my treatment. After the herbal bath, these toxins can't easily disrupt the balance of toxins in your body. It's mainly targeting your grandfather."
"Are you saying she'll find a way to get this herb near my grandfather?" Daniel's eyes narrowed, a murderous intent rising.
Emily didn't nod, "Not necessarily. Tell me where your grandfather likes to spend time at home. If there's already this herb, Raina is definitely involved."
Emily's expression darkened.
Clearly, she was unimpressed by their elaborate schemes.
Emily took photos of the overall layout.
Then they continued searching.
However, they didn't find anything else useful, showing Raina's caution.
"Here..."
Suddenly, Daniel seemed to find a hidden compartment with a plaque.
The plaque had inscriptions, but they were in Sanskrit.
Emily read the Sanskrit aloud. Though she wasn’t an expert, she recognized it as a man’s name.
She quickly snapped a photo.
"This plaque has a man's name, and Raina seems to treasure it. Could it belong to her lover?" Emily speculated.
"She isn’t in a relationship, and hiding it so tightly, it might be related to the person behind all this," Daniel said, knowing the family members better than Emily.
According to his information, Raina didn’t have a partner and wasn’t particularly close to any men. On the contrary, she got along well with most women, making her quite likable.
"Let’s investigate this lead. Hopefully, it’s a breakthrough. I’ll cover the surveillance video now," Emily said, quickly taking out her computer. With a sense of accomplishment, she smiled. "Done. Let’s go back."
"Alright."
After returning, they went to their respective rooms.
To verify their suspicions about Raina, Emily didn’t propose leaving the next day. Since she was here for Daniel and Mason’s health, she had to find the cause of Mason’s worsening condition before leaving.
Early in the morning, she strolled around the yard with Daniel. To others, it seemed like the two were inseparable, with Emily sticking close to Daniel to win his favor. Emily intended to create this illusion, preventing others from introducing new, controllable partners to Daniel.
"Found it!" Emily discovered a small patch of duckweed in an inconspicuous corner and whispered to Daniel.
Daniel came over and saw the duckweed, his eyes cold. This area was close to Mason’s favorite spot. If this continued, Mason would be in real danger.
"Let’s discuss this back inside," Emily said, feeling a heavy weight. Mason was Raina’s grandfather. If she was behind this, she was no better than a beast.
They didn’t expect to run into Veda, who had just woken up. She slept late and woke up late. Upon waking, she wanted to find Emily, mainly to prevent Emily and Daniel from spending more time together.
She didn’t expect Emily to be so openly affectionate with Daniel, walking around the yard, showing everyone their close relationship. This naturally angered Veda. She intentionally staged an "accidental" meeting.
Looking at Emily, she couldn’t help but complain, "Daniel, you usually spend this time in the gym, the study, or at the office. Why are you walking the yard with Emily today? If she wants to walk, she can find me. Why waste your time?"
Daniel’s patience was limited. He replied directly, "Why are you always watching my business? When did you become my boss?"
Emily feigned a pitiful look, "Veda, are you jealous? Jealous that Daniel can spend time with me? When couples are in love, they want to be together all the time. You’re overstepping. Maybe if you had a boyfriend, you’d understand our feelings."
She then provocatively leaned closer to Daniel, "Daniel, I’m hungry. Let’s go back."
"Alright," Daniel responded with a loving smile and playfully tapped Emily’s nose.
The intimacy was so natural and sudden that Emily was momentarily stunned. But she quickly recovered, linking arms with Daniel as they walked away.
