Chapter 202 He Spoke the Most Beautiful Words of Love

Chapter 202 He Spoke the Most Beautiful Words of Love

"Perfect timing! Let me check your pulse again."

Emily beamed, clearly feeling validated by Mason's trust.

With Emily and Daniel each supporting him on either side, they helped Mason upstairs.

They looked like a close-knit family.

Zoey watched them ascend, her eyes barely masking the jealousy and anger she felt.

Veda was fuming, stomping her foot. "Emily's just a nobody, and the Johnsons are a minor family. What's wrong with Daniel and Grandpa? It's like they're under a spell, falling for her act!"

"Veda, that's enough! Watch what you say."

Soren, although protective of Veda, knew when to draw the line.

Seeing her speak so freely, he quickly covered her mouth, urging her to stop.

Veda felt wronged.

Zoey, on the other hand, felt incredibly out of place. Everyone in the Smith family knew she had feelings for Daniel. But now, with Daniel bringing Emily home, she felt sidelined despite her long-standing connection to the family.

Feeling humiliated, she wanted to leave.

"Veda, everyone, I need to go. I have something to take care of."

Zoey found an excuse and got ready to leave.

Realizing Zoey was the most upset, Veda felt guilty for making things worse.

"I'm sorry, Zoey. Don't worry, I won't let Emily trick Daniel and join the Smith family. You go home for now, and I'll come up with a plan and call you."

"Alright."

Zoey left.

Meanwhile, someone else quietly exited the living room.

It was Raina.

Emily was in the study with Daniel, but she had just secretly shared her thoughts about the people downstairs.

Daniel had already turned on the surveillance, ensuring they wouldn't miss anything happening below.

Emily's offer to check Mason's pulse was sincere.

Her demeanor shifted from the warm respect she had shown earlier to a more serious tone. "Extend your wrist."

Mason frowned. "Why?"

"To check your pulse. What did you think I was going to do?"

Emily's tone was blunt.

She still harbored some resentment about Mason's previous doubts about her.

"Didn't you already check my pulse and give me medication? Why do you need to check again?"

Despite his questions, Mason obediently extended his wrist.

Emily raised an eyebrow but didn't respond.

She began quietly checking his pulse.

After a moment, she let go.

"How is it?"

Daniel asked, noticing her serious expression.

Mason also sensed something was off.

"The toxins have increased slightly since my last check, but it's not too serious. I'll administer a few more acupuncture treatments, and you can continue taking the medication."

Emily replied earnestly.

Daniel's face darkened, and the atmosphere grew tense.

Mason was surprised but stayed composed, having weathered many storms.

"So, someone in the family is really poisoning me?"

Mason's voice sounded weary.

Emily nodded. "Yes, but we need to investigate further to find out who. Don't worry, I've promised Daniel to protect you, and you'll be fine."

Mason said nothing.

After a moment of silence, he opened a drawer and took out a jewelry box. "This was your grandmother's. Consider it a gift for Emily."

This gesture was a recognition of Emily's status.

Emily wasn't really seeking anything, especially something so valuable, as her relationship with Daniel was just a pretense.

However, Mason handed the box to Daniel, and she remained silent.

Mason seemed exhausted and waved them off. "I've had your room prepared. Go rest for now."

Daniel had more to discuss with Emily, so he didn't linger and led her to his room.

Emily's room was next to Daniel's, but since they had things to talk about, she followed him into his room.

To the other members of the Smith family, this made Emily appear shameless.

Especially to Veda.

"No wonder the Johnson family cut ties with Emily. A woman like her is disgraceful and truly shameless!"

"You should really keep your comments to yourself. Daniel is currently infatuated with her. If you want to help Zoey, you need to be careful. Angering Daniel won't benefit you, me, or your father."

Veda's mother whispered a reminder.

Soren also spoke sternly, "Veda, I know you're headstrong, but you've never been this reckless before. What's gotten into you lately?"

Growing up in a prominent family, even if not focused on business, one develops a keen sense of awareness.

Veda opened her mouth, glanced behind Vance, and ultimately said nothing.

Emily didn't care about the situation downstairs.

Once inside the room, Daniel didn't immediately ask about the poison. Instead, he handed her the jewelry box. "Grandpa wanted you to have this. Keep it safe."

Emily instinctively took a step back. "This was left by your grandmother, meant for your wife. We're just pretending. I can't accept this. You should keep it for your future wife."

Daniel stepped forward.

Emily stepped back again.

He didn't say anything.

She retreated, and he followed.

Until her back was against the bed, one more step and she'd fall onto it.

They were very close now.

Daniel looked deeply into her eyes, then gently placed the box in her hand. "Grandpa said it's yours, so it's yours. If you like it, keep it. If not, do as you wish. As for a future wife, there won't be anyone else."

This was basically a confession.

Emily felt her heart racing.

She knew she should be brave.

But memories of her past life, the heartbreak and betrayal, made her hesitant to take that step.

Emily avoided Daniel's intense gaze.

This time, she didn't insist on refusing the gift.

She thought that if he ever changed his mind, she would return it to him, and he could give it to the woman he truly loved.

Emily seized the opportunity to change the topic. "Does Raina live here too?"

Daniel felt a pang of disappointment but knew that as long as she accepted the gift, there was hope for the future.

He didn't press her further and replied, "Yes, but not in this building. Why? Do you suspect her?"

"I'm not sure yet. I need to investigate personally." Emily wouldn't make baseless accusations.

Daniel saw her expression and knew she had a plan.

"What are you planning? I'll follow your lead."

Daniel's words were naturally charming, making any girl swoon.

Emily smiled, feeling pleased, and said, "We'll sneak into her room tonight!"
