Chapter 169 Emily Distributes Money
"I'm good, you know me—I won't let anyone take advantage of me!"
Emily flashed a confident smile.
She went on to explain what had happened and how she ended up with the $50 million check.
"You took $50 million and promised not to show up in front of me?"
Even someone as smart as Daniel can act foolish when it comes to emotions.
York, standing nearby, couldn't bear to watch.
Daniel! If Emily had agreed, she wouldn't be standing here right now. Plus, she gave you the $50 million, isn't that a clear sign?
Maybe York's expression was too sorrowful.
Daniel finally picked up on it and realized what was going on.
He cared too much about Emily and was afraid of losing her.
Love can make people irrational!
Emily laughed, "I wouldn't turn down free money. They gave it to me, so I accepted it. Consider it our unexpected windfall, and I'll share it with you!"
Her eyes sparkled with amusement as she looked at Daniel.
Daniel suppressed the overwhelming love he felt and smiled indulgently, "Since you earned it, you don't need to share it with me. Keep it all."
Emily raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure? Even though $50 million might not be much to you, it's still money!"
Daniel remembered Zoey's threats mentioned earlier, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
He spoke gently to Emily, "They were harassing you, so consider it compensation for your emotional distress. Don't worry about Zoey's threats to Violette. I'll arrange for bodyguards to protect her."
Daniel was indeed reliable.
When faced with problems, he knew how to solve them.
Emily admired him internally but said, "No need. We'll use the $50 million to hire bodyguards."
Daniel saw Emily's determination and immediately instructed York, "Find the best bodyguards to protect her discreetly."
"Alright! I'm fine now, I'll head back."
Emily stood up to leave.
Daniel didn't stop her this time. After seeing her out, his gentle smile vanished, replaced by a coldness that spread from his feet upwards.
York couldn't help but shiver.
He knew someone was about to have a bad day.
Sure enough, Daniel's next words were, "We have a project with the King family that's about to expire, right? Zoey is in charge of it?"
"Yes! It's due in a week. The King family has asked several times about renewing the contract."
Zoey had hoped to use this project to get closer to Daniel, but there had been no response yet.
Daniel smiled coldly, "She seems too busy. Let's not renew the project with the King family."
Zoey was still wondering if Emily would really disappear from Silverlight City as promised.
She regretted not being more threatening to scare Emily away.
If Emily suddenly left, Daniel might still think about her.
She had no idea Emily would handle things this way.
Zoey, as the project manager, would face backlash from the King Group's board and her family's competitors, making her too busy to bother Emily.
As for Veda, she seemed spoiled.
Daniel called Veda's father directly.
"Veda's been lounging around too long. It's time she learned some skills. I've arranged for her to attend school abroad. You need to send her out now."
Daniel's tone was firm.
Veda's father, a painter with no business acumen, had long been excluded from inheritance rights. He was content with his dividends and occasional art exhibitions.
With Daniel's growing authority over the Smith Group, Veda's father feared him.
He knew Veda must have done something foolish to anger Daniel.
"Alright, I'll send her abroad immediately."
Veda's father wanted to ask when she could return, but sensing Daniel's anger, he didn't dare.
He decided to wait until Daniel calmed down before pleading for Veda.
Emily had no idea what Daniel was doing for her behind the scenes.
When she got home, she received a call from Sophia.
"Emily, tomorrow's the art exhibition. You promised to go. Should I pick you up in the morning?"
"Tomorrow's the exhibition? I almost forgot. Of course, I'll go see the show!"
Emily laughed.
Sophia's smile widened, "I knew you'd want to go. What do you think Bianca will do?"
"She wants fame, so she'll probably arrange some publicity. We'll see her plans tomorrow. See you then!"
Emily guessed a bit.
If Bianca acted as Emily predicted, she'd face disgrace instead of fame.
Just thinking about it made Emily happy.
Plus, with $50 million, Emily was in high spirits.
She sent money to Violette, Byron, and Sophia.
Violette's family, modest and reserved, was shocked by the large sum.
Violette messaged Emily privately, "Emily, did you make a mistake? Did you add extra zeros? Let me know, and I'll return the money."
"I didn't make a mistake. I actually think I sent too little! Violette, keep it. I legally earned $50 million!"
Emily wanted to prevent Violette's insistence, so she disclosed the amount.
$50 million was astronomical for Violette's family, who had nearly been ruined by a demand for $1 million.
Violette didn't refuse, "I'll save it for you. If you ever need it, just ask."
Emily often wondered why people were so different.
Violette, her aunt, treated her with unconditional love, even at her own expense.
Meanwhile, her closest family, Eli and others, were cold and indifferent.
"Violette, thank you!"
Byron was thrilled, "Ms. Johnson, what's going on? Did you strike it rich? We're lucky to benefit!"
Emily laughed, "Yes, I just got a windfall, $50 million."
"Ms. Johnson never disappoints!"
Sophia couldn't help but laugh, "No wonder you sounded so happy on the phone earlier!"
"Sophia, you talked to Ms. Johnson alone? We agreed she's everyone's Ms. Johnson, you scoundrel!"
"This was business. I can't tell you, you have a record!"
They started bickering.
Emily watched the two, shaking her head with a smile that wouldn't fade.
She thought for a moment, opened WhatsApp, and transferred money to Daniel with a note: [Sharing the wealth]!
