Chapter 167 This Matter Should Be Solved by Men
"Let's start fresh. I'm Emily. Nice to meet you, Raina!"
Emily smiled warmly and extended her hand.
Raina eagerly shook Emily's hand. "Emily, it's great to meet you! Please, help me out in the future."
She felt a wave of relief.
Finally, the first step was done.
At Raina's request, Emily added her on WhatsApp.
Emily then mentioned she had to leave, and they parted ways.
Emily left the café and hailed a cab directly to Horizon Innovations Group.
"Ms. Johnson, you're finally here! Come, take a look!"
Terry greeted her enthusiastically and led her to the project team.
Emily reviewed the project's progress and even ran some tests. It was more refined than her initial plan.
"Great, this time we'll definitely succeed. The investment is already secured. Now we're just waiting for your final product. I'm ready to throw a celebration party and double the bonuses!"
Emily waved her hand grandly, smiling.
"Ms. Johnson, you're amazing!"
"That's fantastic, Ms. Johnson!"
Everyone clapped and cheered.
Emily waved to the finance team, announcing a company-wide gathering to relax for the day.
After wrapping things up, she left the office.
Just as she reached the building's entrance, she was blocked.
"Emily, we need to talk. Come with us!"
Veda spoke, standing next to a poised and powerful woman.
It was clear she came from a wealthy family and was groomed for the family business.
Emily had an inkling of her identity.
Veda's confidence stemmed from the two suited bodyguards blocking Emily's path.
"Don't even think about running. These are top security guards, the best in the business. If I were you, I'd play along to avoid any unnecessary pain."
Veda noticed Emily sizing up the bodyguards and raised her chin smugly.
Emily was highly attuned to danger.
These two exuded a strong presence and were indeed formidable.
While she could likely handle them, it wouldn't be without difficulty.
"I thought someone capable of becoming Daniel's girlfriend would be bold and unique. Yet here you are, timid and cautious. Honestly, seeing you like this is disappointing."
Zoey chimed in.
Emily raised an eyebrow.
"My basic caution is seen as timidity by you? If you're so capable, why bring these two to coerce me? So, where exactly are you taking me? If there's danger, I'll fight back. We're right outside my company, and the building has security. My chances of escaping are higher. What do you think?"
Veda hadn't planned to harm Emily right now.
If she were to target Emily, she'd use more discreet methods. Given Daniel's current interest in Emily, any investigation by him could be problematic.
For now, extreme measures weren't in play.
"Just admit you're scared and stop making excuses. Relax, we're bold enough to show up here, and we won't harm you. We just want a private chat. This is Zoey, Daniel's suitable fiancée."
"Ms. Johnson, no more worries. Can you come with us now?"
Zoey echoed Veda's sentiment.
"Just a moment!"
Emily nodded, then walked over to the security guard. After a brief conversation, she returned.
Veda sneered, "With that little courage, you dare to be with Daniel? You have no idea how many people like Daniel and the challenges you'll face. You're not fit to be Daniel's girlfriend!"
She mocked unkindly.
Emily's gaze shifted to Zoey, her expression calm. "Is that so? Are you including Zoey in that? How sad."
"Sad? What right do you have to call it sad?"
Zoey felt Emily's words belittled her. With her esteemed background, she was used to others treating her with respect. Rarely did anyone speak to her like this.
If not for her upbringing preventing her from acting out, she might have lashed out at Emily.
Suppressing her disgust, she asked sternly, "Why call it sad? If anyone's sad, it's you. Without any status, even if you marry into the Smith family, you'll be looked down upon. You'll wilt like a flower, and that's truly sad."
Emily chuckled, "Do you know the biggest difference between us? You always pin your hopes on a man, becoming pitifully obsessed. But I'm different. Daniel likes me. I don't have the worries you speak of because those are Daniel's problems to solve. If he can't handle them, I wouldn't choose to be with him."
"Let's go!"
Emily finished, and seeing their stunned expressions, calmly reminded them.
Veda and Zoey, realizing Emily's audacity, felt outraged.
How could Daniel possibly be the one pursuing her? In their minds, Emily must have seduced Daniel.
Emily didn't expect them to believe her.
The three soon got into a car.
The vehicle drove to an upscale club, and a waiter led them to a quiet private room.
"Emily, after our brief chat, I see you're smart. So, I believe you'll make the right choice. Take this check. I heard you're not favored in the Johnson family. You've never had this kind of money. Now you have the chance. You know what to do, right?"
Zoey slid the prepared check towards Emily, speaking with an authoritative smile.
Her presence was intimidating, enough to scare an average person.
Veda chimed in, "That's fifty million dollars. You probably haven't seen this much money in your life. With this, you can do anything. Why subject yourself to future class differences and an unwelcoming circle?
Remember, true feelings can change quickly, especially with someone as exceptional as Daniel. He's seen all kinds of women. Maybe he chose you for a change, but he'll soon lose interest. Then you'll have nothing."
Emily picked up the check and examined it.
Fifty million dollars!
Quite tempting!
Zoey and Veda exchanged a pleased glance, thinking Emily was swayed.
But Emily flicked the check and suddenly placed it back in front of them.
"Nice try, ladies. But I'm not for sale."
