Chapter 155 Give Him a Good Beating
“What, not enough cash for you?”
Chase's bleary eyes landed on Wren’s face, his head wobbling slightly. She looked familiar, but his booze-soaked brain couldn’t quite place her. Instead, he blurted out something shameless.
“I don’t give a damn about your money. And if you don’t let go, don’t blame me for what happens next. You’ll be back in the headlines, and not even God can save your career then.”
Wren’s voice was icy cold.
Chase frowned, feeling threatened. Because of those bogus news stories, now any random person dared to talk to him like this!
Getting angrier, Chase tightened his grip on Wren’s hand and started dragging her towards a private room.
“You’re asking for trouble. Tonight, you’re drinking this whether you want to or not.”
“What’s going on, Chase? Found yourself a fiery one with a bit of a temper, huh?”
One of Chase’s friends, noticing he’d been gone for a while, came out to find him and couldn’t resist making fun of the situation.
“Yeah, she’s fiery but greedy. I offered her money, and she complained it wasn’t enough. Then she threatened to make me the talk of the town. Can you believe this?”
Drunk, Chase selfishly pushed all the blame onto Wren.
His friends, hearing this, joined in the jeering. “Hey, lady, this is Mr. Johnson. Judging by your clothes, you’re from a regular family. Mr. Johnson showing interest in you is your big chance. Don’t miss it.”
“Exactly, if you don’t go willingly, we’ll help you out. If I were you, I’d be smart about this.”
Wren came from a family of doctors, so she wasn’t lacking in wealth. She dressed for comfort, favoring cotton and linen. To those who didn’t know better, her clothes might seem simple.
The people Chase called over weren’t particularly classy either. They didn’t recognize Wren and assumed she was just a regular girl, ready to drag her away.
Someone nearby saw the commotion and tried to record it with their phone. One of Chase’s friends spotted this, snatched the phone, and smashed it. He then called the bar manager. “Clear the place. Mr. Johnson needs to have a private chat with this young lady.”
The manager, just a worker with no real power, couldn’t afford to cross the Johnson family, a typical wealthy household. So, he complied.
Wren’s face darkened.
“Let go. I’m warning you for the last time, or you’ll regret it.”
“Are you stupid? Can’t you see the situation you’re in?” One of the men mocked.
Chase laughed arrogantly. “The place is cleared. Let’s see how you get me in the headlines now!”
He let go of her hand and called a server to pour a drink, handing it to her with a raised eyebrow. “Be smart and drink it.”
Wren looked at him deeply. “Alright.”
Chase’s lips curled into a smirk, feeling his frustration dissipate. But the next moment, his smile froze.
Wren took the drink and splashed it in his face. “Someone like you thinks you can buy me a drink?”
“You bitch, you’re asking for it. Get her!”
The others, seeing Chase stunned with the drink on his face, quickly reacted. One shouted, and the rest moved in to grab Wren.
They assumed Wren, a seemingly delicate girl, would be easy to overpower. But as soon as they started, chaos ensued.
Wren fought back, holding her own against several men. With her silver needles, they were no match for her.
The manager, watching the fight, felt a pang of sympathy for Wren but could only observe silently. As the situation escalated, he regretted not stepping in sooner. However, having already sided with Chase by clearing the place, he had no choice but to call security.
Even the security guards couldn't handle Wren. The manager, realizing the severity, quickly called the police.
——
Emily was about to fall asleep when she got a call from the police station. She hurried out the door, unexpectedly running into Daniel.
"Where are you headed? I'll drive you!" Daniel offered straightforwardly. "I'm not stalking you. I saw you rushing out from the second floor and got worried."
Since expressing his feelings for Emily, Daniel had been openly kind to her.
Emily wanted to refuse, but Daniel persisted. "I can't let you go alone. If you drive yourself, I'll probably follow you anyway."
His tone was a mix of overbearing and stubborn, yet strangely, Emily didn't mind.
This was the beginning of her feelings for him.
This time, she didn't refuse. "Alright, to the police station!"
Emily got in the car and gave the address.
Daniel glanced at her but didn't ask further. He drove quickly and smoothly to the police station.
Emily hurried out without even saying goodbye to Daniel, running into the station.
"Wren, are you okay? Are you hurt?" Emily rushed in, checking Wren over.
Hearing the familiar voice, Chase, clutching his aching face, shot a sharp look at her.
"Emily? It's you? This woman is your friend? No wonder birds of a feather flock together. Just as uncivilized and wild as you. She's fine. It's me and my friends who are hurt. Take a good look!"
Chase let go, revealing his swollen face and busted lip.
Emily was shocked to see Chase had been the one harassing Wren. Seeing his face, she felt no sympathy and even gave Wren a thumbs up, thinking she hadn't hit him hard enough.
"You deserved it! And you guys, getting beaten by a girl, how embarrassing. You still have the nerve to call the cops? If I were you, I'd be ashamed!"
Emily's words were sharp and unreserved.
Chase remembered how Emily used to fuss over him for even a minor scratch, saying as an actor, his face was his livelihood. Now, she not only didn't care but scolded him.
Chase couldn't help but retort. "We went easy on her because she's a woman. But she hurt my insured face. She'll be paying for damages and facing jail time. No way I'm agreeing to settle."
Emily didn't panic. She knew Wren well enough to trust she wouldn't attack without reason.
Ignoring Chase, she turned to Wren. "Tell me everything. Don't worry, they won't get away with bullying you. I'll make sure you get justice."
Wren, knowing Chase was Emily's brother, trusted Emily enough to call her. Emily was someone she could rely on.
Holding Emily's hand, Wren said, "I trust you!"
She explained everything that had happened. If it weren't for her brother being in the bar, she wouldn't have encountered the drunken Chase.
Emily listened, her face growing darker with anger. Her icy gaze fixed on Chase.
"You're something else. With all your unresolved issues, you still don't know when to stop? Bully my friend, and you'll regret it."
Chase frowned. "You're going to go against me for an outsider? And you believe her without any proof? I don't buy it. She's lying and has no evidence!"
