Chapter 129: How Could Emily Want to Earn Two Salaries Alone
"No..."
"I've finished eating! So, it's settled. I'll be here at 6:30 in the morning."
Daniel, used to calling the shots, didn't give Emily a chance to refuse. He made the decision for her and left.
Emily opened her mouth but decided not to say anything.
It was just one day, it wouldn't really disrupt her plans, so she decided to go along with it.
After all, he was a big deal, and there was no point in arguing over something so trivial, which might even annoy Daniel.
Little did she know, Daniel, upon returning home, immediately called York.
"Find out who Emily has been talking to lately and what her schedule looks like. Keep this under wraps."
Daniel reminded him in a serious tone.
"Got it!"
York accepted the order and left the study.
He ran into Charles on his way out, who happened to catch the tail end of the conversation.
"Daniel, what's the big secret? Are you hiding something huge from me?"
Charles looked at Daniel with a pitiful expression.
Daniel turned his gaze away, "Don't give me that look. Otherwise, I might think you're not fit to be here. There's a place that's perfect for you!"
"Where?"
Charles didn't catch on immediately.
Until Daniel mentioned, "A nightclub!"
The first thing that came to mind was male models.
Charles finally got it and felt wronged, "Wow, Daniel, I care about you so much, and you mock me like this."
Daniel glanced at him indifferently, "What do you want? If there's nothing, you can leave."
Charles wanted to keep up the act, but facing Daniel's gaze, he shrugged helplessly and muttered under his breath: heartless person.
But he smiled openly, "Of course, it's about your health. That doctor has always kept his identity hidden, but guess what? I heard he'll be at Regal City next door tomorrow. Apparently, he's treating someone, so I'm going to see him in person and wanted to let you know."
Daniel's previously indifferent look suddenly sharpened.
His hand tightened on the armrest, and he spoke abruptly, "Booked the tickets yet?"
"Not yet, I'll book them when I get back."
He planned to make a trip, which meant leaving Daniel. For the sake of Daniel's health, this was his way of reminding him to beef up security.
"Book an extra ticket, I'm going too!"
Daniel's tone was firm.
Charles had thought Daniel would stop him.
After all, when he had someone follow that doctor before, Daniel had scolded him.
Turns out, he cared but just couldn't admit it.
"You should've said so earlier. I thought you'd stop me. Fine, I'll call and arrange for our tickets and bring York along for your safety."
"Alright!"
This time, Daniel didn't refuse.
After finishing his business, Charles left.
But for some reason, he felt like he was missing something, feeling uneasy.
Daniel didn't care about Charles's thoughts. He called York and told him to cancel the investigation.
Because, from Charles's words, he already knew where Emily was headed.
Daniel assumed Emily was going to Regal City to treat someone, so he had York arrange the hotel and client meetings in advance.
Their meeting would appear as a "coincidence," as Daniel was there for business.
Of course, he didn't forget to visit Emily's house early the next morning for a check-up.
He arrived early enough to catch Violette making breakfast for Emily.
"Mr. Smith, you're here so early?"
Violette opened the door after seeing Daniel through the monitor, her hands trembling slightly in surprise. She quickly opened the door and asked.
Daniel's demeanor was warm and polite with Violette, like a respectful young man.
"Violette, Emily and I are friends. You can just call me Daniel."
Daniel smiled gently.
Violette had initially thought she was mistaken about Daniel's feelings for Emily, but now she was convinced he liked her.
Otherwise, why would someone of his stature treat her with such respect?
The answer was clear.
"But Mr. Smith, isn't that inappropriate? Are you here for Emily? She might still be..."
"Violette, who's at the door? Is it Mr. Smith? If it is, let him in. We agreed he'd check my pulse this morning!"
Emily heard the doorbell and wondered why Violette hadn't brought the guest in yet. She stepped out and heard Violette's words, quickly speaking up.
Violette, realizing it was for a medical check-up, hurriedly invited Daniel inside.
Daniel wanted to correct Violette's address, but Emily's interruption made him miss the chance.
Of course, Violette's caution was understandable. He was planning to take her "child" away, but there was plenty of time for that!
Daniel didn't mind Violette's attitude and entered the house upon her invitation.
Emily, having just woken up, hadn't dressed up. Her bare skin was radiant, her complexion flawless.
With her healthy weight, she looked both beautiful and vibrant.
Emily didn't hold back. After inviting Daniel to sit, she placed her fingers on his wrist.
Daniel remained quiet.
His gaze was gentle, watching Emily's focused expression.
They say men look handsome when working seriously, but women are even more beautiful when they're focused.
She seemed to be glowing.
Daniel was momentarily entranced.
Emily, initially absorbed in checking his pulse, didn't notice his intense gaze.
When she finished and looked up to discuss his condition, she met his deep eyes, feeling like they were pulling her in.
Emily cleared her throat, looked away, and spoke, "I'll prescribe a new medication for you. Use it until the doctor gives you acupuncture next time. But don't worry, it's under control for now. Just don't overwork yourself. Even if you need to handle internal matters, wait until the poison is completely gone."
"Okay, I understand."
Daniel responded obediently.
Emily breathed a sigh of relief, ready to send him off when Daniel suddenly asked, "Ms. Johnson, how do you know the source of my illness? Sometimes I feel like you're that doctor friend of yours."
"That's impossible!"
Emily almost choked on her saliva. She quickly glanced at him, meeting his eyes briefly before looking away, feeling a bit guilty.
Daniel's eyes flashed, but he nodded, "I agree. That doctor wouldn't be greedy, introducing Ms. Johnson to diagnose me for extra money."
Emily's face almost turned red.
For a moment, she wondered if he knew her true identity.
But then she thought it couldn't be. If he knew, he'd confront her directly given his status.
Little did she know, Daniel found this amusing.
And since she enjoyed it, he'd play along.
Emily felt nervous but kept a calm exterior, "That's right. My doctor friend is noble and wouldn't do such a thing. It's getting late, I need to get ready to leave. Mr. Smith, please go now."
