Chapter 122 Still Daydreaming
"No way, I didn't do anything wrong!"
Emily shot back sarcastically, watching the scene unfold.
James, who had been supporting Bianca, froze mid-motion.
He looked up at Emily, clearly annoyed. "Is this really the time for snarky comments? Can't you see Bianca's not feeling well? Emily, don't be so heartless!"
James had some nerve saying that.
You can't wake someone pretending to be asleep.
Emily had no intention of wasting her breath on someone so out of touch.
"Emily, calm down. Don't say something you'll regret!" Eli quickly stepped in, trying to stop Emily from speaking to Kade and Yara.
Yara, sensing what Emily was about to say, jumped in, "Emily, go ahead and speak your mind. I've got your back."
Eli, understanding the weight of Yara's words, fell silent but gave Emily a pleading look.
Emily ignored him. "Mr. Kade Smith, Mrs. Yara Smith, I've decided. Let's call off the engagement. It's obvious James cares more about Bianca."
"Emily, how can you be so childish? I take care of Bianca because she's not well, and it's all for your sake!" James's face darkened, and he scolded her coldly.
"You're the one being childish!"
Just then, a clear, calm voice came from the doorway, grabbing everyone's attention.
"Daniel, what brings you here? If I'd known you were coming, I would've met you at the door!" Kade quickly recovered and greeted him with a forced smile.
Eli also hurried forward, trying to ingratiate himself, "Mr. Daniel, what a surprise!"
Daniel gave them a slight nod, acknowledging their greetings, but his gaze casually fell on Emily.
Seeing her composed and tear-free, he concluded she wasn't too upset.
Daniel's gaze then shifted to James. "Seems like you never get the point. Someone like that shouldn't be handling important projects."
James's heart sank at Daniel's words. One comment could ruin all his efforts. He couldn't let that happen.
Despite his resentment, James bit his lip and bowed his head in respect, apologizing. "Daniel, I'm sorry. I just don't want Emily to regret her decision. If she breaks off the engagement, she might end up with nothing. I'm doing this for her own good."
"End up with nothing?"
Daniel's eyes held a hint of mockery. "If you're so worried about her having nothing, why don't you transfer five percent of your shares to her? That would solve the problem more effectively."
"Absolutely not!" Yara panicked.
She had worked hard to secure twenty percent of Ascend Global Group's shares for James, and recently, five percent had already been given to Emily. Another five percent would mean Emily had ten percent.
The thought of someone she looked down on being on equal footing with James was unbearable.
Daniel's cold gaze turned to Kade. "Seems like everyone in your family thinks they have a say. Who should I listen to? I'm very busy, so maybe I won't listen to anyone."
Ascend Global Group relied on the Smith Group. If word got out, Ascend Global Group would suffer greatly.
Kade immediately glared at Yara. "Zip it. Since Daniel's spoken, James should compensate. I agree, one house isn’t enough. Five percent of the shares should go to Emily."
Emily hadn't expected Daniel to show up, and it seemed he was there to back her up.
Her heart raced.
Hearing she could get five percent of the shares, her eyes lit up.
"Thanks for your generosity. I’m willing to call off the engagement. I hope we can part on good terms. James, what do you think?"
Emily looked intently at James.
Daniel also turned his gaze to James.
Their identical expressions made James think they were a perfect match.
But realizing Daniel had taken his woman and he was powerless to stop it, his face twisted with anger, and he couldn’t speak for a long time.
Kade’s face darkened, and he slapped James on the back of the head. "What are you standing there for? Answer her."
James felt humiliated, but the pain brought him back to his senses.
He lowered his eyes and reluctantly replied, "Of course, we’ll part on good terms. From now on, you’ll be my sister."
Eli didn’t dare speak at this moment.
But his sharp eyes kept darting between Emily and Daniel, wondering if Daniel might have feelings for Emily.
If he had known she was still useful, he wouldn’t have cut ties with her so soon.
However, Daniel was busy and likely wouldn’t see the online announcement. He would instruct someone to hide it when he got back.
Emily had no interest in being anyone’s sister.
After all, Bianca was supposedly James’s sister too.
"I don’t need to be your sister. Let’s just be strangers from now on. With Mr. Smith as a witness, I’m sure you won’t forget the five percent of shares. Now that the engagement is off, I’ll take my leave."
Emily made sure to remind them about the shares to prevent any deceit.
By mentioning Daniel as a witness, she ensured no one from the Smith family would dare deny it.
Having gotten what she wanted, Emily had no reason to stay.
James realized that Emily’s parting reminder about the shares showed she cared nothing for him.
He finally understood she genuinely wanted to break off the engagement.
Was it because she was after Daniel?
He couldn’t believe she was that kind of person!
As Emily prepared to leave, Daniel had no reason to stay either.
Bianca’s eyes flashed. "Emily..."
She tried to call out to Emily but was overcome with nausea.
James had no time to care for her.
Eli’s focus was on the possibility that Daniel liked Emily, making it hard for Bianca to continue her act.
Unexpectedly, it was Emily, who was supposed to leave, who played along.
"What’s wrong, Bianca? James, weren’t you just worried about Bianca? Hurry up! And why do I think her symptoms look like pregnancy... Oh, sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. It’s just that I know a bit of medicine, and I saw it accidentally!"
Emily pretended to cover her mouth after mentioning Bianca’s pregnancy, her apology only solidifying the claim.
Eli’s face turned ugly. He couldn’t care about Daniel liking Emily now and quickly scolded, "What nonsense are you spouting? Are you trying to ruin Bianca’s reputation? Your amateur medical skills don’t count!"
