Chapter 12 You Treat Me, I Trust You!
"Are you sure you haven't misjudged the situation?"
Charles frowned and replied seriously.
To back up his point, he elaborated on Daniel's current condition.
"Daniel's got this weird illness. The meds the doctors gave him usually work. But this time, his condition got worse in just two weeks, probably 'cause the injury made it worse... What are you doing?"
As Charles was talking, he noticed Emily suddenly pulling open Daniel's shirt.
Emily knew Charles genuinely cared about Daniel. His reminder brought back memories of Daniel's last injury.
However...
Emily frowned.
The injury did worsen the illness, but it also made it easier for someone to poison him.
It wasn't just because of the injury and physical weakness like Charles thought.
Charles knew how many women wanted to get close to Daniel. Seeing Emily's actions, his first thought was that she was taking advantage.
If his hands weren't incapacitated, he would've stopped her already.
Ignoring Charles's suspicion, Emily leaned in closer to examine the wound.
In her focus, she didn't notice the jade pendant Daniel had given her slipping out from her neck.
"Someone, arrest this fake doctor! And you, stop what you're doing, or you'll regret it!"
Charles shouted for help, his voice filled with threats as he saw Emily getting closer.
"Annoying!" Emily, having been through this before, wouldn't let herself be wronged.
With a swift motion, she silenced Charles with a silver needle.
Charles opened his mouth but found he couldn't make a sound. With his hands unable to remove the needle, he could only glare at Emily fiercely.
Emily pressed on Daniel's wound, which bled slightly but not with fresh red blood. It was tinged with a dark hue.
The poison seemed to have reached the bone.
She was so engrossed in her examination that she didn't notice Daniel slowly opening his eyes.
His vision was blurry at first, but the familiar jade pendant swinging in front of him gradually came into focus.
Finally, he looked up and saw those calm, clear eyes.
Emily finished her examination, stood up, and calmly removed the needle from Charles's face.
Ignoring his murderous glare, she spoke coolly, "Treat him or not, it's up to you. Just remember, my fees are high. If you don't want treatment, the fifty million dollars won't be refunded."
She mentioned fifty million dollars as if it were five bucks.
Charles frowned. "How will you treat him? Can you guarantee a cure? Otherwise, I think you're a fraud."
Emily frowned.
She had always been doubted in her past life.
Now, facing such skepticism again, she turned coldly, "Believe it or not, it's up to you. If not, then forget..."
"Treat him!"
A low, hoarse voice suddenly came from the bed.
Magnetic and authoritative.
It drew the attention of Emily, Charles, and the bodyguards Charles had just called in.
"You're awake? Then you decide."
Emily's tone softened.
Given that he hadn't killed her to silence her that day and had given her a promise, she had more patience and tolerance for him.
"Treat me. I trust you."
Daniel spoke again, his voice weak but his deep eyes unwavering.
She was the girl from the hospital that day. If she wanted to harm him, she wouldn't need to be so roundabout.
That day, she had plenty of opportunities.
However, the fact that the daughter of the Johnson family was a doctor was indeed surprising.
Emily didn't expect him to be so unguarded around her.
But she didn't dwell on the reason. Treating a patient who cooperates is always better.
Charles frowned and couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure you can cure him?"
Emily replied, "I'll try."
"Do you know who you're dealing with? How can you just 'try'? If you're not confident..."
"Charles, shut up! Listen to the doctor." Daniel stopped Charles from further questioning.
Emily smiled slightly. A cooperative patient always made a doctor's job easier.
She glanced at Charles.
Before starting the acupuncture, she softened a bit, considering his concern for his friend, and said, "I have an eighty percent chance."
"Yes, cure him!"
She paused for effect, then added.
Charles was incredulous but then overjoyed, "Are you serious?"
This illness had tormented Daniel for years. If it could be cured, a billion dollars would be worth it. He might even consider following her lead in the future.
Fortunately, Emily didn't know Charles's thoughts, or she might have found it an enticing proposition.
In response to Charles, Emily pulled open Daniel's shirt and expertly applied the needles around the wound.
Charles knew better than to disturb a doctor during treatment.
Now that she had started, he could only wait quietly for the results.
As Emily inserted the last needle, Daniel gritted his teeth, holding back a groan.
But his expression relaxed.
He could clearly feel the suffocating pressure of the illness easing.
He felt noticeably lighter.
This made his deep gaze more curious as he watched Emily focus on her treatment.
Through the mask, he couldn't help but picture her serene, focused face.
"Bear with it!"
Emily warned as she inserted the final needle.
She then pricked Daniel's finger with a silver needle and took out a glass container from her medical kit.
Blood, dark and tinged with a faint blue glow, dripped into the container.
Charles moved closer, frowning.
That blood was definitely poisoned.
As the container filled, the blood gradually turned red.
Emily applied a needle to a specific point, and the bleeding stopped almost instantly.
If Charles had any doubts before, they were gone now. He believed Emily was a genuine doctor.
Emily quickly wrote a prescription.
"Gather these herbs and bring them to me. I'll prepare the medicine. Once he takes it, the poison will be neutralized. After some time, he'll be as healthy as anyone else."
If this were true, it would be a cause for great joy.
Charles took the prescription, his hands trembling with excitement.
But seeing some of the herbs listed, he hesitated, "The others are fine, but Celestial Ginseng and Golden Saffron Essence... How long can Daniel wait?"
Emily recalled where she could find these herbs in her past life, her eyes flashing.
She suggested, "I can suppress the poison for three months. I can also procure the herbs, but that would be an additional cost."
Charles opened his mouth, wanting to curse her greed.
But a knock at the door interrupted him, "Mr. Green, Mr. Smith's daily medicine has arrived. Should I bring it in?"
"Bring it in!" Charles decided to continue with the usual medicine for now.
As the butler opened the bottle to give Daniel the medicine, Emily suddenly knocked it out of his hand.
Before the butler and Charles could get angry, she put on gloves and picked up the medicine.
"Is there something wrong with the medicine?" Charles asked, his eyes flashing with uncertainty.
