Chapter 103: Daniel's Little Thoughts
"Hey, isn't this speed a bit too slow?"
Emily hadn't given the driver her address, but she was surprised that the race organizer hadn't asked for it either. However, they were heading in the right direction.
Emily furrowed her brow. Whoever was behind this seemed to have done their homework on her background without her even realizing it.
Though Emily appeared calm, she was on high alert internally.
The driver remained silent, focused on the road. But...
They were definitely moving too slowly. Cars and even electric bikes were zooming past them.
Emily started to feel uneasy.
The driver was anxious: Can I really not go slow? I need to wait for Daniel to get home first!
Outwardly, he remained friendly, "Sorry, Ms. Johnson. I've made too many mistakes today. To make sure nothing happens during your trip, I have to drive slowly for your safety. I hope you understand. Unless, of course, you have an urgent matter?"
Emily thought about Daniel. If it were urgent, he would have called her to hurry. Besides, she trusted the backup medication she had given him.
"Not really, but even if you speed up a bit, it should be fine. Or, you can let me drive. You know I'm a good driver!" Emily suggested.
The driver quickly refused, "No way! If my boss finds out, I'll be in big trouble..."
His swift and urgent rebuttal made Emily take a closer look at him.
The driver felt uneasy but pretended not to notice, maintaining a steady pace.
Emily, usually patient, was getting a bit frustrated.
Fortunately, the driver soon received a message from York: Daniel had arrived home.
The driver finally relaxed. He didn't immediately speed up but subtly increased the pace.
By the time Emily noticed, they were almost home.
The driver stopped directly at Emily's villa entrance.
"Emily, you're back!"
Violette heard the car and immediately came out to greet her.
Emily, getting out of the car, said, "Violette, could you grab the medical kit for me?"
"Sure!"
Violette hesitated for a moment, then quickly brought out the kit.
Emily thanked the driver and headed to Daniel's house next door with the kit.
York, who had been keeping an eye on Emily, knew she was back. He had grown increasingly respectful toward her. The fact that she hadn't rested and immediately went to check on Daniel showed how much she valued him, reciprocating Daniel's admiration and affection.
"Ms. Johnson, please come in!"
York, now wearing a worried expression, extended his hand to invite Emily inside.
As Emily entered, she saw the weak Daniel lying on the bed. His shirt was unbuttoned at the chest, revealing his sexy collarbone and muscular chest, paired with a fragile expression. It gave an impression of being easy to conquer yet irresistible.
Stop!
Emily quickly controlled her thoughts. He was her patient now.
She hurried to the bedside to examine and treat Daniel. The process took some time, making York nervous.
Daniel was indeed uncomfortable, but he had endured worse. This discomfort was nothing to him, and he could easily bear it. However, he had staged this to ensure Emily returned and wasn't with Knox. Charles had certainly contributed to this idea.
Daniel had asked Charles, "How do you make a girl like you?"
Charles reacted like he'd seen a ghost, "Seriously, Daniel, what girl in her right mind wouldn't like you?"
Daniel's cold gaze pierced him, "I'm asking for a friend. Aren't you supposed to be experienced?"
Charles automatically translated "a friend" to mean Daniel himself and secretly chuckled while outwardly maintaining a serious demeanor, "If your friend is wealthy, just spend money."
"What if she's not interested in money?"
Charles's eyes widened, "Someone not interested in your... I mean, your friend's money? Who is this? I need to worship her! If money doesn't work, being handsome can. If your friend looks like you, consider seduction. It will definitely work."
Daniel pondered this. Emily had shown brief moments of fascination with his looks. Did that mean she liked his appearance and physique? Hence, the scene Emily was witnessing now.
Emily was taking a long time to treat him because Daniel had claimed his chest hurt, but she hadn't found any major issues. To be cautious, she was thorough.
Daniel's gaze fell on her delicate fingers on his wrist, feeling a slight coolness that stirred his emotions, creating an irresistible impulse. His Adam's apple moved slightly.
"Are you feeling thirsty?"
Emily was focused on her patient's condition, noticing his frequent swallowing and assuming he was thirsty.
Daniel's ears turned slightly red, but he maintained a calm facade, "Just a bit, it's not a problem."
His voice was already somewhat hoarse.
Emily nodded and considered switching hands for further treatment. She then leaned closer to check his eyes, her subtle medicinal scent surrounding him. Daniel felt his breath filled with her unique aroma.
Luckily, Emily soon released his eyelids and stepped back slightly. Otherwise, Daniel might have suffocated.
"Ms. Johnson, is there something wrong? Is there poison at home again? Should we check?"
York, seeing Emily take so long, grew concerned.
Emily released her hand and quickly wrote a new prescription, "No major issues, it's still within controllable range. What did you do today?"
Daniel's condition showed signs of poisoning, indicating his body was slightly out of balance. Fortunately, they had called her in time. After writing the prescription, Emily prepared to administer acupuncture.
York glanced at Daniel, meeting his warning gaze, and dared not speak further.
Daniel hid his guilt and said, "Just went out to handle some things."
He had raced today, exhausting his energy. Emily luckily didn't know. If she did, she might refuse to treat him. Disobedient patients were the ones doctors disliked the most. Daniel understood her temper enough not to tell the truth.
York was surprised. Daniel had lied. He must be afraid of Emily finding out, showing he valued her even more than he realized.
"Don't overexert yourself. Your body can't handle such strain. Also, those two medicines need to be obtained quickly. Don't stop searching. I have some leads here and will get the herbs soon."
Fortunately, the auction for the two herbs was approaching, and she planned to attend personally.
