Chapter 99

Chapter 99

Evelyn?

Benjamin's precious one?

Chase's eyes flickered slightly. If something really happened to Evelyn because of him, he couldn't bear that responsibility.

In just that brief moment of distraction, Freya had already slipped past him and rushed toward the CEO's office door.

Even though Chase turned back to chase after her immediately, he was still a second too late - the door had already been pushed open.

When Benjamin's cold eyes swept over, Chase's heart went cold, and he immediately stood up straight.

"Mr. White, it's my fault for not stopping Ms. Stewart. I'll take her out right away."

"Benjamin, Ms. Thomas went on a date with another man!"

Two completely different voices rang out one after another, and the temperature in the office instantly dropped several degrees.

Chase's Adam's apple bobbed - he felt something bad was about to happen.

He immediately reached out to grab Freya's arm and, without caring about manners, started dragging her outside.

"It's not Matthew, it's someone else!"

"I have proof!"

Benjamin's eyes surged with various emotions, but his voice revealed nothing.

"Let her go."

Freya's face lit up with joy. She pushed Chase's hand away and quickly walked to the desk.

She took out her phone, opened the photo album, and handed it to Benjamin.

"Benjamin, they clearly know each other from before."

The photos were obviously taken secretly - pictures of Evelyn and Eugene having dinner together.

Basically captured from start to finish.

Most of the time, Evelyn had a smile on her face, as if the meal was relaxed and pleasant, and she seemed to have eaten quite a bit.

When eating dessert at the end, Evelyn got cream on the corner of her mouth, and Eugene reached out to wipe it for her...

The photos stopped abruptly there, the intention obvious.

Even so, Benjamin's face darkened a bit: "You took these?"

"Yes."

Freya looked at that face she had been longing for day and night, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Benjamin, I know you're angry with me, but I truly love you, and I'm truly afraid you're being deceived by Evelyn."

"So many people in this world love you. Why must you choose a woman who has someone else in her heart?"

Benjamin frowned and waved at Chase, looking at Freya with eyes that held no warmth.

"Didn't I tell you not to appear in front of me again?"

"I..."

Freya's heart trembled.

She had never seen Benjamin this cold, even when she had set up Evelyn last time—

Was it because Evelyn was by his side that he didn't show such an intimidating appearance?

Various feelings of unwillingness spread through her heart. Her hands hanging at her sides clenched into fists. She wanted to force out a smile, but instead her face became somewhat twisted.

"I was worried you'd be deceived. These photos don't lie..."

"So you think you have a chance now?"

Benjamin looked at her, his eyes showing no emotional fluctuation, not even a hint of like or dislike: "Freya, you're Soren's sister. As long as you behave yourself, I'll make sure you live comfortably for the rest of your life, but that's all."

As his words fell, Chase walked in, holding a tablet.

"Mr. White, Ms. Thomas left the underground parking garage with Mr. Martinez."

He glanced at Freya, then continued: "From the surveillance footage, we can see that Ms. Stewart followed them after watching them leave."

Freya's first reaction wasn't to tell Benjamin, but to follow Evelyn - everyone knew what Freya's purpose was.

Freya's expression changed slightly.

She hadn't expected Benjamin to have Chase check the surveillance right away, and that he'd actually confront her about it.

Suppressing the panic in her heart, she began looking for an explanation: "The situation was urgent and special at the time, so I..."

"Freya."

Benjamin calmly interrupted her, his tone emotionless: "Anything involving Evelyn, I don't want you participating in it."

He didn't scold harshly, nor did he coldly rebuke her - it was just a matter-of-fact statement.

But the more casual it was, the more it felt like his heart was made of stone.

At this moment, Freya truly felt that no matter what she did, Benjamin would never look back at her.

She wasn't willing to accept it.

From the first moment she saw him, she had fallen for him, and he met all her fantasies about her future partner.

After Soren died because of him, she had a reason to get close to him - how did things turn out this way?

"She betrayed you..."

"That's between her and me; it has nothing to do with you."

Benjamin casually waved his hand, signaling Chase to take her out: "Compensate her with a new phone."

"Yes, Mr. White."

As the door closed, only Benjamin remained in the office.

He looked through the photos again. His handsome face showed no emotional change, but his eyes churned with dark currents.

Was she this close with Eugene?

That evening, Evelyn curled up in a bean bag chair, casually browsing on her tablet, but Eugene's words kept running through her mind—

[In wealthy family marriages, feelings are the most useless thing.]

[You grew up in this circle, I don't need to teach you, do I?]

[He might love you, but for how long? Especially with family pressure, it's only a matter of time before he compromises.]

[You don't think he'd give up the White family for you, do you?]

He would.

It was precisely because she knew Benjamin would that Evelyn felt especially down.

From her past life until now, he had always been the one giving, while what she'd done for him was pitifully little.

Could she really expect him to give up wealth and power within his grasp for her?

She let out a soft sigh. The sound of a car engine came from outside the window - Benjamin was home.

He changed his shoes at the entrance, and Pearl brought him a glass of warm water as usual: "Mr. White, have you had dinner?"

"No."

Benjamin took the water and looked upstairs: "What did she have for dinner?"

"Ms. Thomas had some porridge, probably for dieting."

Girls these days are considered to be beautiful, no matter their body type; they'd always talk about dieting. Pearl clearly didn't approve.

"Ms. Thomas is already very thin, with such a slim waist, she doesn't need to diet anymore."

Benjamin narrowed his eyes. Did she have a better appetite eating with Eugene?

"Prepare dinner for two." He put down the water glass and headed upstairs.

"You're back."

Evelyn saw the door open and smiled at him.

He responded and strode over, leaning down to kiss her lips.

The sudden move startled her, but she only struggled symbolically before letting him continue.

But she wasn't very enthusiastic and didn't respond to his kiss.

Used to her being sweet and compliant during intimate moments, Benjamin immediately noticed the change.

He raised his hand to grip her chin, staring into her eyes.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" She blinked, completely unaware of what was wrong with him.

His Adam's apple bobbed several times, but he swallowed back the question he wanted to ask.

"You didn't eat properly tonight."

"No, the dinner was delicious, but..."

She touched her stomach: "I'm about to perform on stage soon, I need to control my eating, otherwise when I wear the dance costume, you'll see a little belly right away."

The image appeared in her mind, and she shook her head in dissatisfaction: "That absolutely cannot happen."

"I thought you preferred eating out with other people."
