Chapter 55
Indeed, Evelyn doesn't like Freya, but she won't allow any woman to be harmed in front of her either.
She grabbed the wine bottle in front of her, stood up, and walked to the next table, then slammed it hard on the table.
Wine and glass shattered and splattered everywhere in an instant.
"Where did this bitch come from, ruining my fun?"
The man cursed. He looked up and saw Evelyn's delicate face, licked his lips, and showed an extremely sleazy smile.
"Got some fire in you, I like that..."
Before his disgusting words could finish, he was kicked in the waist and fell to the ground along with Freya in his arms.
Freya was scared to tears.
Freya looked at Benjamin, who had just pulled back his foot. She tried to scramble up in a panic, but she couldn't move because that sleazy man had his arm hooked around her waist.
"Benjamin, help me."
Facing her plea for help, he didn't respond. Instead, he reached out and took the broken bottle from Evelyn's hand.
"Don't do dangerous things like this again."
Sharp eyebrows, serious tone.
But anyone could see that his movements were very careful, afraid the broken glass would hurt Evelyn.
She let go, turned around, and hugged his waist, looking up with a coquettish expression.
"That man was so scary. What if Ms. Stewart got hurt? I was so frightened."
Evelyn buried her face in his chest, acting like she was scared.
He gently patted her back, his voice becoming gentle: "Don't worry, I'm here, nothing will happen."
Freya: "..."
She was the one who got harassed, and she was still being held by that creep, yet he was comforting Evelyn, who hadn't been hurt at all?
Grievance and jealousy instantly filled her heart.
"Benjamin..."
"Get up quickly," Evelyn poked her head out from his embrace, smiling innocently. "That man is obviously bad news. Ms. Stewart should stay away from him."
Then she looked at Benjamin again.
"Ms. Stewart is such a poor judge of character. Either her boyfriend is problematic, or she runs into this kind of mess at work."
"Benjamin, why don't you arrange something and find her a job?"
"But she hasn't graduated from college yet. The kind of work she can do, you probably don't know much about."
Every word from Evelyn showed concern for Freya, but she just didn't reach out to help Freya up.
And Evelyn was holding Benjamin without any intention of letting him go to help Freya.
It wasn't until the restaurant manager came over that someone finally helped Freya up.
Freya had a slender figure and was in her early twenties, with the specific innocence that comes with that age.
Her tears kept flowing, making her look pure and innocent, no matter how you looked at her.
Evelyn felt she couldn't compete with that.
When it came to playing pitiful, her appearance really couldn't beat Freya's.
But Benjamin's heart was with her, so no one could win against her.
Benjamin looked down at Evelyn. There was some emotion in his eyes that was hard to read, but he quickly looked past Evelyn, and his gaze fell on Freya.
"Why aren't you working at the coffee shop anymore?"
He didn't understand the thoughts of girls this age.
But he took Soren's request to heart, so he had specifically gone to check on Freya's work environment.
Who knew it would lead to all that mess, and now he ran into her here again.
Freya's face was covered in tears, her voice trembling with fear, her words coming out jumbled.
"Money... I need money next month."
"Does your school have any fees to pay?"
"No..."
"Then what is it?"
Facing Freya's vague responses, Evelyn frowned sharply.
Could it be that having Benjamin play the hero wasn't today's main event?
As Evelyn pondered, his displeased voice rang out again: "Your so-called self-respect means putting yourself in danger? I told you, if you don't want to take my money, you can pay me back when you earn money later."
Benjamin's tone wasn't exactly harsh, but it made Freya's body tremble.
When her voice came again, it carried obvious sobbing.
"Benjamin, next month... is your birthday. I wanted to prepare a gift for you. Do I have to borrow money from you for that, too?"
"I know you don't lack anything, but you've helped me so much. I just want to show my gratitude."
"I didn't expect this to happen. I've embarrassed you."
By the end, she was crying uncontrollably.
Her grievance and fear all turned into tears at this moment.
Evelyn was holding Benjamin, so she naturally felt his body tense up for a moment.
Men usually can't handle women's tears.
Especially since Freya, in front of them, had suffered this humiliation because of him, yet he had scolded her. It was understandable that he felt some sympathy.
But while he could feel sympathy, he needed to refuse to accept her goodwill.
"Ms. Stewart is very thoughtful."
Evelyn spoke slowly: "But if celebrating his birthday puts you in danger, how could he bear that? How about you come work for me instead?"
As soon as she said this, both Benjamin and Freya's eyes fell on her.
Evelyn blinked, as if she didn't understand their looks.
"Is there a problem? I have young women working for me, so naturally, no one would bully Ms. Stewart."
"Unless..."
She paused, showing a thoughtful expression on her face: "Ms. Stewart can work other jobs, but working for me is not okay?"
The implications were many.
Freya didn't speak, just cried softly.
Benjamin rubbed Evelyn's head: "It's good that you're willing to help her."
"Benjamin..."
"What, Ms. Stewart doesn't want to?" Evelyn didn't give her a chance to speak, directly blocking her with a question.
Freya seemed startled and took a step back.
When Freya came to her senses, she immediately shook her head, the flustered expression on her face becoming even more obvious.
"Ms. Thomas is willing to help me; I'm grateful. It's just that I've caused you so much trouble before, I really feel bad about it."
"It's fine. You're the sister of Benjamin's benefactor, so naturally I should take care of you too."
She looked at the restaurant manager: "Ms. Stewart encountered this kind of thing at your restaurant. You should at least make some gesture, right?"
The restaurant manager's facial muscles were twitching.
"Yes, yes, yes. We guarantee we'll provide compensation for emotional distress, and her wages won't be short a penny."
How did he end up crossing paths with a young lady like Evelyn?
And with Benjamin standing there, no one dared to go against her wishes.
"Then go handle it quickly."
Evelyn smiled warmly and kindly, like a big sister, as if there had never been any conflict between her and Freya.
Whatever Freya thought, she could only leave reluctantly, looking back every few steps.
But right after Freya left with the restaurant manager, Evelyn started being sarcastic.
"What, worried she'll be bullied? Want to follow and check?"
"And that man who dared to touch Ms. Stewart, shouldn't Mr. White help her get revenge?"
Evelyn's jealous tone was completely different from her appearance just moments ago.
The corners of Benjamin's lips curved up as he put his arm around her shoulder and walked toward the door.
"Didn't get to eat dessert after dinner. I'll take you to buy some."
She loved sweets.
Her eyes had been sparkling while looking at the desserts earlier, but then this happened.
Evelyn blinked and looked at him sideways: "In this situation, you want to take me to buy dessert?"
