Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Evelyn arrived at the White Group branch office. Just like before, she made her way smoothly to Benjamin's office.

But when she pushed open the door, the person she was looking for wasn't there.

"Where's Benjamin?"

A wave of inexplicable panic suddenly washed over her, and she asked almost aimlessly.

"Ms. Thomas, Mr. White didn't come in today."

Benjamin's secretary spoke respectfully when she saw her: "He went straight to the airport..."

"The airport?"

The panic she'd just felt seemed to become real in that moment.

In her past life, because she'd been too heartless, she'd forced Benjamin to give up everything and leave Emerald City. Could it be that in this life, everything was arranged ahead of schedule?

He just left like that?

"What's going on here?"

A clear male voice rang out, with threads of laughter woven into it.

Before even seeing him, you could tell his face must be full of smiles.

"Ms. Thomas, why do you look like you're about to cry? Don't tell me... he exposed Matthew and Sophia's schemes, and you think he was too harsh?"

Always saying sarcastic things with a gentle face - a classic wolf in sheep's clothing.

That voice could only be Samuel Harris.

"Why are you here?" Evelyn's brain was still trying to catch up.

"You hate Benjamin so much and you can still come here, so why can't I come as his good friend?"

Samuel had a charming, romantic face, eyes full of affection, and a voice that was gentle and deep.

But his words landed in Evelyn's ears like sharp thorns.

"No, I don't hate him."

Evelyn's muffled voice murmured, and he raised his eyebrows: "What?"

"Where did he go?" She suddenly looked up at Samuel, reaching out to grab his arm, "I need to find him!"

He looked her up and down and whistled.

"What's this? Realized your support is gone, and want to bring him back? But I remember, the person who wanted him to leave the most was you, wasn't it?"

Was that true?

Evelyn trembled, and flashing through her mind were scenes of her hurting Benjamin again and again for Matthew's sake.

Proud Benjamin, yet for her sake, he put down his dignity time and time again.

In the end, Benjamin was forced by her to leave Emerald City...

"He really doesn't want me anymore?"

After saying this softly, Evelyn's delicate face was instantly covered with tears, her eyes full of despair.

"What's wrong with you? Are you trying to set me up?"

Just as Samuel was on high alert, a cold, angry voice rang out: "What did you do?"

Benjamin rushed over like a gust of wind, pulling the swaying Evelyn into his arms.

He looked down at her pale face and red eyes, then looked up at Samuel.

"Since when are you so ungracious? Bullying a woman!"

Samuel laughed in disbelief: "We've known each other for almost thirty years - would I bully a woman? Especially one who often doesn't care about your feelings?"

"I told you, you can dislike her, but you can't hurt her."

"Benjamin."

Evelyn caught his familiar scent, looked up at him blankly for a while, then suddenly reached out to hug him: "I thought you didn't want me anymore, I thought you left, don't go..."

Men are usually afraid of women crying, especially the woman they love.

Benjamin frowned, not quite sure what was happening for a moment.

But his gaze toward Samuel grew a few degrees colder.

"What? Want to fight?" Samuel rolled his eyes and started taking off his watch.

"I don't have time for you right now." Benjamin bent down and scooped up the sobbing Evelyn, carrying her straight toward his office.

Samuel narrowed his eyes at their backs and said.

"Why do I feel like something's off with those two?"

"Since Ms. Thomas was drugged the other day, things haven't been right."

Chase quietly tattled in his ear: "Ms. Thomas started striking back at Mr. Thomas and Sophia, even said if Sophia wants to die, she should just die and stop acting."

"What? She's had a change of heart?" Samuel became interested, "She's finally grown a brain."

In the office.

Evelyn held Benjamin and cried nonstop, her small face buried in his chest, quickly making him feel the wetness.

He patted her back somewhat stiffly, his expression stern.

"Stop crying, I'll go beat him up in a bit to make you feel better."

"No, don't go." Her voice was thick with tears, and buried in his embrace, her voice was very muffled.

Plus, she was curled up in his arms like a small bundle, both well-behaved and delicate.

Benjamin's heart felt like it was being brushed by a feather, incredibly soft.

"I won't go. Why did you come?" His husky voice matched his deep eyes, which held suppressed emotions in their depths. "Did Matthew come to you?"

As the young lady of the Thomas family, Evelyn had been cherished and raised like a precious jewel since childhood.

The only hardship she'd ever experienced was probably her unrequited love for Matthew.

Last night, to help clear her name, Benjamin not only used his power and influence, but also turned his attention to Matthew and Sophia.

Now, without even thinking, he knew what kind of hot water Matthew and Sophia were in, so they came to her for help.

"Benjamin!"

She interrupted him, looking up at him through teary eyes: "What did you go to the airport for?"

"To pick up Samuel."

Evelyn blinked, her mind slowly catching up.

So her crying just now was making a fuss over nothing?

Her pretty face flushed, and she tried to get up from his embrace, but was held back by the arm around her waist. His large palm pressed against her back, holding her close.

"If you don't like him, I'll make him leave right away."

His care for her was consistently gentle.

"No need, he's your good friend. Since he's here, you should treat him well."

Evelyn's eyes were still red like a rabbit's, but she was already thinking about making a good impression on Samuel.

If one day Benjamin really got angry with her, at least someone could say a few good words on her behalf.

She was thinking seriously, but his frown only deepened.

"What exactly did he say to you?"

Thinking about how she'd suddenly lost her composure earlier, holding him and crying uncontrollably, Evelyn's face grew even redder.

It really was embarrassing.

But...

As long as he hadn't left, what did embarrassment matter?

If she really lost him, that would be terrifying.

"He didn't say anything, I just thought you'd left." She sniffled, "Benjamin, thank you for doing so much for me."

She spoke very seriously, but his frown didn't relax.

Thank you.

They were engaged - did they need to be so formal?

Or was she using this way to create distance between them?

"You helped me so much, and since Samuel is here, can I treat him to dinner?"

"No."

Samuel pushed the door open and walked in, still wearing that smiling expression: "Who knows what you're thinking? What if you poison the food? Then we'd have to go to the hospital and be roommates with your grandfather, wouldn't we?"

He continued: "At that time, the Thomas Group and The White Group Branch would be leaderless. Who would benefit most from that?"
