Chapter 105
Sweat broke out on Leroy's forehead.
When Benjamin put it that way, the matter escalated directly to hotel security - it became official business.
Evelyn was held in his arms. Looking up, she could see his sharply defined jawline.
What just happened only disgusted her; it didn't frighten her. But his natural comforting gesture filled her heart with a sense of security.
Her hand clutched the fabric at his waist as she followed his lead.
"When staying at a hotel, especially for female guests, safety is the most important thing. This hotel clearly failed to provide that. Is it a personnel issue or..."
Before she could finish, sweat started dripping down Leroy's face.
"An accident, it was really just an accident, Mr. White. Mr. Rivera just had a few too many drinks today. He's not normally like this. And we would have stopped him if we'd seen it."
Leroy kept giving looks, signaling Gerald to apologize quickly.
However unwilling, they both knew full well they probably couldn't afford to mess with Benjamin.
They exchanged glances, and Gerald, who had initially made a move on Evelyn, walked over to apologize.
But Gerald made no effort to hide his reluctance.
"I had a bit to drink just now, and it went to my head. Sorry for disturbing you."
Then Gerald looked at Evelyn: "I'm really sorry for scaring you just now."
Those were his words, but Gerald's eyes kept landing on her face, clearly still amazed by her beauty and regretting he couldn't have her.
Leroy's expression relaxed slightly: "Mr. White, today's incident was really an accident. I just got a call - we've prepared lunch for you..."
Seeing no reaction from Benjamin, he looked at Evelyn, hoping she might put in a good word.
Evelyn knew the hotel was under the White Group. If this really blew up, it would damage their own reputation.
She tugged at his sleeve: "Forget it, it's not a big deal. I'm hungry anyway, let's go eat."
Benjamin looked down at her.
After a few seconds, he reached out to touch her face and took her hand to leave.
"Let's eat."
"Mr. White..."
"People who shouldn't be here better not show up again."
Benjamin coldly dropped that line, giving Leroy no chance to say more.
Watching their backs, Leroy felt like he'd dodged a bullet and raised his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
"Who exactly is he?" Gerald walked over, his brow furrowed tight.
As the son of one of the hotel's shareholders, Gerald had always walked around here like he owned the place. When had he ever been treated like this?
Gerald had been forced to apologize and even got kicked.
Especially in front of a beautiful woman - just thinking about it made him feel stifled, and his tone was harsh.
"Mr. Rivera."
Leroy couldn't afford to offend either side and could only say meekly: "That's Benjamin from the White family."
Hearing Benjamin's name, Gerald's expression changed.
"It's him... Then the woman with him..."
He suddenly laughed. Everyone said Benjamin was devoted to Evelyn, while Evelyn had someone else in her heart.
But as it turned out...
Men - they really can't help keeping mistresses.
Because the woman by Benjamin's side couldn't be seen in public, naturally, Benjamin didn't dare make a big deal of this.
Daring to treat him like that - that woman would have to pay the price!
Evelyn was used to being the center of attention, so naturally, that little incident wouldn't leave any psychological shadow.
She eagerly pulled Benjamin along to the restaurant she'd been thinking about for days.
But when she reached the entrance, she felt like she hadn't checked her horoscope before leaving - she actually ran into Matthew and Freya.
Should they go to a different restaurant?
Her good mood instantly vanished, but Matthew had already strode over.
"I knew Evelyn would come here to eat. After all, we always came to this restaurant together."
Something's wrong, very wrong.
Alarm bells went off in Evelyn's mind.
This wasn't about having a meal - this was about stabbing at Benjamin's heart!
Benjamin already lacked security. Hearing this kind of talk, who could guarantee he wouldn't think she came here because of Matthew?
Before she could figure out how to explain, Benjamin's grip on her hand tightened.
The next second, she was pulled directly into Benjamin's embrace.
"Is Mr. Thomas planning to enter the fortune-telling business with such good guessing skills?"
Benjamin said coolly, "I hear that industry has quite a market in Shadow City. You should stay here - might have better career prospects."
Matthew's eyes narrowed slightly, but his smile didn't fade.
"I really couldn't do that line of work. After all, I only understand Evelyn. Other people's thoughts - even if I rack my brains, I couldn't guess them."
"Evelyn," his gaze fell on her face, "since we've run into each other, let's eat together."
Matthew's easy manner was exactly like that of an older brother.
Freya, beside Matthew, bit her lip and said quietly: "Then I'll head back first."
"What's wrong? Not feeling well?"
Meeting Matthew's concerned eyes, she shook her head but couldn't speak.
After a long moment, she finally said with a sob in her voice: "Just now, Ms. Thomas refused to go back to the hotel with you - she probably didn't want to see me. Now that she sees me here, she probably won't agree to eat together either."
Evelyn: "..."
Did they plan this together?
Were they trying to make Benjamin think she refused to eat with Matthew at the airport because she was jealous of Freya being by Matthew's side?
She looked at Benjamin. He wasn't looking at her, and his tone was very mild.
"Since we've run into each other, having a meal together isn't impossible."
He took Evelyn's hand and walked straight to the table where Matthew and Freya had been sitting, then picked up the menu: "You don't mind if we order a few more dishes?"
"Of course not."
Matthew quickly composed the slight surprise on his face. He walked over and sat down, his expression unchanged.
"Though I just ordered according to Evelyn's preferences, so Mr. White only needs to order a few dishes you'd like."
Matthew's gentle expression and natural manner made Evelyn feel uncomfortable all over.
This kind of manipulation was way too obvious.
Someone as smart as Benjamin wouldn't fall for it, right?
She looked at Benjamin uncertainly, only to notice a hint of coldness in his eyes.
Actually, his expression was usually quite cold, so others wouldn't easily notice his emotional changes.
But when he was with her, even though his face didn't show much smile, his demeanor was gentle. Now though...
She leaned over and looked down at the menu: "Haven't been here in a while. I see the restaurant has some new dishes - let's take a look."
As she spoke, she hugged his arm and gently nuzzled her head against his shoulder.
Her coquettish manner carried obvious appeasement.
Benjamin's anger was smoothed over by her initiative, and his expression softened considerably.
"See what you'd like to eat."
Benjamin and Evelyn's heads were close together, very near each other - clearly showing an intimate relationship.
Watching them, a flash of hatred crossed Freya's eyes, and her words were barbed beneath their sweetness.
"Benjamin and Ms. Thomas have such a good relationship. I wonder when you're planning to get married?"
After saying this, she seemed to realize she'd said the wrong thing. She glanced at Matthew before covering her mouth: "Evelyn is so young, there's no rush."
