The Awakening

Sophia POV

Waking up should be easy, but honestly? In my current state, it's not. My whole body aches, as if needles are penetrating my muscles, and I let out a groan of pain. But that only worsens the situation, as my head starts spinning, even with my eyes closed.

I took deep breaths several times to try and make the sensation go away, until I felt my hands being held. The touch is gentle and loving, and I can feel the sparks of destiny taking effect, spreading through my wrists and up my arms, easing my pain.

After a few seconds, I managed to blink a few times before focusing my gaze. I know I should pay attention to Achilles and Perseus, but what catches my attention is a completely different smell.

It's a strange mixture, dark yet warm at the same time… It's like black amber, with myrrh, mixed with the dry heat of the desert at sunset, where the sand still holds the warmth of the sun, but the air begins to cool. There's a subtle scent of dried earth after rain, rare and sacred, mixed with the discreet perfume of dried roses, like a lost garden under the sands.

I don't know where I got so many fragrances from, but it's so complex that I can't concentrate properly. I tried to sit up to understand where this smell was coming from, but as I did, I turned my face towards Perseus and noticed something very different about him.

His smell had changed, and now it's like a living forest under the dominion of a god: intense notes of wild pine, apple tree, and pines mixed with aged leather, marked by wars and time. A scorching heat emanates from him, like the blazing sun at noon, the touch of Hélios, his latent fury ready to awaken. There's also warm amber, oak moss. I see him as wild, noble, and untamable, his aroma commanding respect and fear even before his presence is noticed.

Looking at him brings back a rage I've felt before, the same that Ivar used to awaken in me, and I pulled my hand away from his. I see pain and shame on his face, things I've seen on Ivar's face before, and for the first time, I understand why I always reacted so strongly to his Alpha aura.

"Sophy…" Perseus called me by my nickname.

His voice is heavy and a torment, and I see a wet glint in his eyes, which affects me. The anger I feel begins to dissolve, but I turn my face away because only I know how much I suffered when I forgave Ivar with each new aggression, only to lose myself in the end.

I see Achilles in front of me, and he raises his hand to caress my face. His expression is one of understanding, and I'm relieved that he understands my reactions. I notice that his smell hasn't changed; it's still like oak moss, mixed with orange blossom and a hint of sandalwood in the background.

I know the world has changed, that now that my secrets have been revealed, nothing will be the same, but I'm extremely happy that something remains as I remember it. I threw myself into his arms, seeking his warmth.

Achilles held me firmly and lovingly, his strong arms around me as if he wanted to protect me from all the evils of the world. There was no hesitation, no judgment, just acceptance. And at that moment, that was all I needed.

My face settled in the curve of his neck, where the familiar scent enveloped me like a warm blanket on a cold night. The silence between us spoke more than any words could. I was exhausted, physically and emotionally, and there, in his arms, I allowed myself to breathe without pain, without fear.

"You're safe, Soph." Achilles whispered in my ear, while his hands caressed my hair and comforted me. His chest vibrated with each word, and my heart responded with a subtle relief.

I felt the moment Perseus got up from the bed and moved away, and his guilt resonated within my chest, overwhelming, as if he carried all the suffering of the world on his shoulders. Still, I refused to look at him. I needed time. I needed to understand the conflicting feelings that arose whenever he was near, the desire, the fury, the memory of old traumas he awakened and caused anew.

The fear that he might never be able to control himself, that he would let jealousy take over, that I wouldn't be safe around him. I trusted Hélios, who was his wolf, his spiritual part… But the human, I know I'm not ready to face him, and I don't know if I ever will be.

My heart raced, and the emotions inside my chest began to mix and overwhelm me, as I no longer knew what was mine, what was Perseus's, and what was Achilles'. I let out a few groans of pain.

"Please…" I begged, trying to ask them to make it stop.

I know Achilles can help me, and gradually, the sensation diminished, while the strange smell became stronger, as if its owner had come closer.

I opened my eyes and lifted my head, trying to identify the source of such a smell, and my eyes fell on Khalid. He was there, standing near the bed, more to the side of Achilles, and it was as if the light was bending to make him appear, as there was a shadow around him as primordial as the sands of time.

He is tall, imposing, with an authoritative posture and a silence that many would say is threatening, but which at this moment brings me a strange calm. His skin was a deep, perfect tone, like polished onyx in the moonlight, reflecting a cold and almost ethereal elegance. And then there were the eyes, red like rubies dipped in blood, intense, unmoving, as if they could see through my soul, and I know they can now.

He wore a dark wine-colored suit, cut too precisely to be human. The fabric seemed to have been woven by candlelight in some forgotten castle. The contrast between the rich wine and the matte black of the lapels and tie created an almost hypnotic effect, as if every detail of his attire had been chosen to seduce, dominate, and confuse.

The way he stood there, with his hands in his pockets and an expression too serene for the chaos my presence should cause, only made everything more surreal. He didn't move like a predator... And yet, every cell in my body knew he was the deadliest in that room.

And then, the smell, and my heart almost stopped, as the implication of feeling his scent so intensely dried my throat and stiffened my body. For a brief moment, I saw his expression change to hurt, but it was for so little time, but I knew it was there.

"Khalid…" I called his name, and now this name has a different and profound meaning.

"Sophia…" Khalid's voice echoed like a whisper carried by a distant desert wind. "My Shi..."
