Chapter 340 Chapter 340 Caelan, don't get a divorce.
Myrtle Stevens felt as if she had been struck by lightning, her lips trembling. "What did you say? You want a divorce?"
Caelan Cooper, eyes closed, had a single tear rolling down his cheek.
Seeing the resolute expression on Caelan's face, Myrtle understood all too well what it meant after being together for so many years. But she had fought so hard to win him over! She had finally married into the Cooper family!
She screamed, "No! I won't divorce you! I won't! Caelan, look at me! I'm your Myrtle! We just got married a month ago; how can we get a divorce? I won't do it!"
Her words tumbled out in a frantic, desperate plea as she tugged at Caelan's arm, even dropping to her knees and clutching at his pant leg, begging.
Caelan bent down, slowly prying her fingers away, his eyes red as he asked, "Myrtle Stevens, after what you've done, you think we can just forget it all? You expect me to live happily with you?"
Myrtle clutched his shirt tightly. "Caelan, I know I was wrong. Please, don’t leave me. I can’t live without you..."
"Let’s forget everything and start over, okay? Just like you said, we can still have kids. I’ll have as many as you want, Caelan, please don’t divorce me..."
Caelan forcefully pushed her hand away, causing her to fall to the ground. Gritting his teeth, he said, "Start over?"
"Myrtle Stevens, you slept with another man and carried someone else's child. How can we start over?"
Myrtle turned to Finlay Stevens and Davina Evans, crying out, "Dad, help me! Mom, say something! I can’t get a divorce!"
But at this point, what could Finlay Stevens say?
His daughter had made such a foolish mistake; could he really force Caelan to take her back?
Davina's heart ached for Myrtle. She stepped forward to help her up and said, "Caelan, didn’t you hear? Myrtle had a child, and it was yours. It was Eileen Stevens who caused that child’s death!"
"Instead of looking for the person who harmed Myrtle and the child, you're here fighting with her about a divorce? Is this how you act as a husband?"
Caelan Cooper let out a bitter laugh, feeling drained from arguing with the mother and daughter. It was infuriating and absurd that Davina Evans could still shift all the blame onto Eileen Stevens at this point. How had he never realized how despicable they were?
Taking a deep breath, Caelan spoke softly, "I'll have the divorce papers sent over tomorrow. That's it."
He strode out of the Stevens family home, his steps heavy yet urgent, as if he were fleeing in despair, completely different from the confident man who had first arrived at the Stevens family.
Once the Cooper family left, chaos erupted in the Stevens household. Myrtle Stevens was sobbing uncontrollably in Davina Evans's arms, pouring all her strength into her cries, as if Caelan's departure had stolen her very soul.
Suddenly, she pushed Davina away and grabbed a fruit knife from the table, charging at Eileen Stevens.
"I'll kill you! It's all your fault!" she screamed.
"Eileen!" the old man shouted in panic.
But to Eileen Stevens, Myrtle's attack was as ineffective as a kitten's swat. She sidestepped gracefully, easily avoiding the blow, and then seized Myrtle's wrist.
With a slight twist, Myrtle's joint made a cracking sound, causing her to instinctively drop the knife. It clattered to the floor, making a sharp noise and leaving a noticeable scratch on the wooden surface of the Stevens family home.
Eileen Stevens pushed the person away and said coldly, “Myrtle Stevens, you brought this on yourself. Don’t blame others.”
She continued, “I’m curious, Myrtle, why didn’t you just have that child? Since you’ve already tricked Caelan Cooper into marrying you, why not keep the deception going?”
Myrtle froze for a moment, her eyes red as she shouted, “Why should I have the baby? It’s not even Caelan’s child! I refuse to live my life under that kind of threat!”
With that, she buried her head in her hands and began to sob, crying out, “Because he’s sick! The baby is sick! I couldn’t have carried it to term even if I wanted to!”
Eileen found herself believing Myrtle this time, but she still thought that Myrtle’s act was quite impressive.
With such details, Eileen was completely in the dark. Even the results Lynx Black had found showed that both the fetus and the mother were perfectly healthy.
Eileen walked over to her grandfather and softly called out, “Grandpa.”
He looked at her deeply, sighed heavily, and said, “You knew all along, didn’t you?”
Eileen shook her head. “No, I didn’t know. I just know that if I didn’t push her, I won’t take the blame.”
Her grandfather coughed twice, glancing at Finlay Stevens, and said, “You should handle your own daughter. The Cooper family has already shown enough restraint by not making a big deal out of this. You should think carefully about how to proceed.”
With that, he stood up and said, “I’m tired. Let’s go lie down. Eileen, help me.”
“Yes, Grandpa.”
Eileen supported her grandfather as they walked out of the living room. As they reached the backyard, they could still hear Myrtle’s heart-wrenching cries.
Her grandfather coughed a few more times and said, “I always knew she was restless, but I didn’t expect my indulgence would lead to something like this.”
He shook his head, weakly lamenting, “Affairs, infidelity, surrogacy… what a disgrace for the Stevens family!”
Eileen Stevens was taken aback. Before she could say anything, her grandfather suddenly collapsed.
"Grandpa!"
Fortunately, both Eileen and the butler were nearby to catch him, preventing him from hitting his head.
The butler immediately called for an ambulance, and the two of them hurriedly took the old man to Gaylen Hospital.
Lynx Black personally examined him, and after he was settled into a hospital room, he found Eileen Stevens and said, "It’s just stress; he got worked up."
Eileen nodded, "I figured as much. Is it serious?"
Lynx glanced at her grandfather, who was now asleep, and replied, "Like I said, at his age, even minor issues can become serious. His heart has never been strong, and if your two sisters keep causing trouble, it could lead to...”
Lynx didn’t finish his sentence, but Eileen understood the implication.
She sighed and said, "Next time they cause a scene, they should take it outside. We can't let Grandpa get angry."
Lynx asked, "Has the Myrtle Stevens situation been resolved? What’s the Cooper family's stance?"
Eileen nodded, "Yeah, Caelan Cooper said he wants a divorce. It should happen in the next couple of days."
Lynx chuckled, "Well, that's what they get for their actions."
As Niles Hawke approached, Lynx's eyes sparkled behind his glasses.
Leaning against the wall with a smile, he said, "Eileen Stevens, you should be careful."
"Careful about what?" Eileen asked, confused.
Lynx Black chuckled and said, "Caelan Cooper, huh! You know, he used to be quite hung up on you. If it weren't for Myrtle Stevens getting pregnant, who knows who he would have ended up marrying!"
"Now..." Lynx Black stretched out the word, smacking his lips as he continued, "Divorced, single, and Myrtle Stevens is out of the picture. So, who do you think his target is now?"
