Chapter 233 Death of the Heiress
Chapter 233 Death of the Heiress
THIRD PERSON’S POV.
A week after the explosion,, Serena’s funeral had been arranged. Spareheaded by Trisha, Sarah and Clara, they planned a quiet befitting burial ceremony just like Serena would have wanted.
At least it was easier to focus on final rites arrangements than to focus on the fact that someone they held dear was gone.
All the news paper carried it, every blog, every tabloid had the same headline.
The Death Of The Heiress.
Everyone who mattered in town was in attendance, well everyone except the one who mattered the most.
At the end of the ceremony, people whispered their condolences on their way out of the church but deep down they all had one question in their mind. The same thought consumed them all.
Where was Damian Crowne.
No one had seen or heard from Damian since the crash a week ago.
Some netizens had started to refer to his manor as the haunted Crowne, blaming him for everything that happened to Serena.
Others sympathized with him believed he still needed time alone to mourn his loss.
But Damian himself never came out to debunk or make any statement. It was like he had died in that explosion along with his Serena.
“I can’t believe Damian didn’t come.” Trisha hissed. “Who missed the final opportunity to say goodbye to their wife?”
“In his defence the casket is empty, it’s not like we found her body to bury.” Oscar shrugged.
“What’s your point?”
“That we are saying goodbye to an empty casket, not Serena. And Damian doesn’t necessarily have to come down here for that.”
Trisha scowled at him, “this is the reason why Damian always thinks he’s above mistakes, it's because you are always enabling him.”
“Trisha, please.” Oscar warned. “The casket may be empty but this is still a celebration to honour Serena. Let’s not fight here, okay?”
“Whatever,” she responded and walked off.

“Hey aunty,” Clara strode to where Sarah was standing, nursing a glass of apple juice. “Are you okay?”
“No,” Sarah responded honestly. “I’m trying really hard to tame the pregnancy hormones but every time I remember I’ll never see Serena again, I want to crawl in a corner and ball my eyes out.”
Clara sighed, pulling out a chair for her aunty. “I understand how you feel, I keep beating myself up. I can’t help but feel this is all my fault, if I hadn’t decided to fight her over the inheritance, nobody would have had a reason to harm her.”
Sarah sank into the seat before speaking. “Your are going to drive yourself crazy if you keep feeling that. Just focus on the fact that you got to amend your relationship before she..” her voice faded out, somehow she still couldn’t bring herself to say the D word around Serena’s name.
That would make this all too real for her.
“Are you still going to make your announcement on Monday?” Clara asked changing topics.
“Yes,” Sarah nodded. “After what happened with Serena there’s nothing I’ll say that will convince Martins that Monterra isn’t a dangerous place. He’s insisting we move back to his country.” She turned to Clara.
“You know I’m not even mad at him, I no longer have anything to live for over here and Nelly away will help me heal. And more importantly, it will keep my baby safe from the infamous Gregory greed.”
“I wish I could escape as well, but I still have to finalize my divorce from Jonathan. He’s making it unnecessarily difficult.”
“Speaking of which,” Sarah looked around, “I haven’t seen him anywhere around. Didn’t he come?”
“I asked him to stay away. I know for a fact my sister wouldn’t want him here. If there was a way to keep my father away, I’d have as well.”
“I hate the fact that Horace is about to get away with all the evil things he’s done.”
“He was smart enough not to leave any traces behind. And now once you announce your resignation the lawyers will have no choice but to make him the new CEO. It’s sad.”
A beat of silence passed and a low laugh escaped Sarah’s lips.
Clara turned to her in amusement, “what’s funny?”
“The fact that I’m still hoping some sort of miracle happens that will stop Horace from being made CEO.”
“I know that feeling.”

The lights in Crowne manor hadn’t been turned on in almost seven days. Damian had insisted on it and no one has questioned him, no one could.
Edith took his dinner up to his room like she had everyday since the explosion, praying that he’d actually eat it tonight but deep down she already knew exactly what would happen to the food.
“Mr Damian, it’s me. I’ve brought your dinner.” She announced after knocking on the door.
The door slowly creaked open and Edith walked into the dimly lit room, thank goodness she knew the room well enough otherwise she could have stumbled, trying to find her way.
“Thanks, Edith.” Damian croaked, then pointed at the other side table, “take that with you on your way out.”
Edith moved to the table and
Saw the lunch tray she had brought up for him a few hours ago still untouched.
“You didn’t eat.” She muttered.
Damian’s eyes remained fixed in the ceiling above his head. “I wasn’t hungry.”
Edith nodded then picked up the tray and started to walk out of the bedroom. But when she reached the door, she turned to him.
“Mrs Crowne wouldn’t want you starving yourself like this,” Edith said, her voice gentle.
Damian’s gaze only shifted to her for a second, “Mrs Crowne is dead,” he replied flatly, “and dead people can’t feel things.”
Edith wanted to say something else but she knew it was useless, Famian
Was going to let the pain he’s feeling consume him until there was nothing left of him.
“Send Jake up when you see him.” He instructed before Edith shut the door firmly behind her.
