POISONED
POISONED
Sebastian’s POV
The evening went smoothly guests lottering around the main hall. Alpha Argon's funeral had passed on and the reception was in memory of him.
Since he lived a full amount of years, his death was a celebration of life. Mostly to the family member who had him killed. Evie has decided not to tell me the culprit. Which I respect her for, I would only cause trouble for her if I try to change the way of time.
She said his death was inevitable so it had to happen in order for something else to occur. At the opposite end of the hall, Lucas had some Alpha engaged in a conversation.
I believe he is trying to rub his ass over them to elect him while giving empty promises. He is an empty twat with no shame. If not for Evie's calm intervention, I would have started a war with him.
Speaking of my love, she was in the midst of Lunas conversing with a diplomatic smile. She had done extra work to fit in by her intelligent gestures. She proved to me allies could be won by clever acts of respect.
Even the Queen had a soft spot for her. She was radiating in their midst like a global star, enchanting and beautiful.
“Sebastian." Someone called me from behind. I turned to see my mom still wrapped around her favorite dumb pest.
Ava had a smile that caused a glared to quickly contort my features. She was never pleasing in my eyes.
“If you are here to talk to me about your pest, please leave. I do not have any intention to interact with anyone not my wife," I said abruptly, turning my back on them.
“This not about that, Sebastian. Ava is not a pest and she is here to apologize for what happened earlier. She was only trying to be friendly," my mom defended.
I sighed and placed the wine glass in my hand on the table next to me. “More excuses won't change my mind about her. I know you are blinded by her charms which I will soon dissolve sooner or later. But I don't need her apology for anything. If she needs to apologize then she has to give that to my wife." I remained adamant on my decision.
The last thing I will do is to share sympathy with my wife's enemy. Already, my mother has become my enemy due to her relationship with Elara's daughter.
“Are you taking this too far? Ava is a good girl and she wants to be good to you. But you keep letting that gold digger get in between the two of you," she blurted out and my blood boiled to the highest degree.
“You will not address my Luna like that ever again. If not for her, you would have been dead long ago," I grumbled and she flinched backwards.
My mom's brows knitted together in confusion as if she had skipped a time with the look on her face.
“The one who saved me was Ava not Evelyn. I remember clearly. Your wife was too cowardly to step into my sick room," she stated and I confirmed Evie's theory.
My Mom was under the influence of magic. These people have managed to corrupt her brain and manipulated her memories.
As if noticing my realization, Ava cuts in, “Please, I am not here to start a war. If you want me to apologize to Evie, I will. She is my sister after all," she says with a tiny voice that suited an aunt.
Others might be captivated by her voice and call it sweet but it was similar to a broken siren singing mayhem.
“You are such a sweet girl. I apologize my son has been rude to you all the time. Someday, he will understand when things fall apart with girl he married..."
“Nothing will fall apart between Evie and me. She will forever be by my side no matter how many times you pray to the moon goddess to separate us. Instead, your pet will fall into the deepest despair and never come out of it." I cursed without holding back. My mother gasped in shock and Ava's face pales to ash.
She is lucky I am not the kind of man that calls a woman a bitch. She did wear that title for a badge.
“I will be right back." Ava stepped past us, stalking Evie from behind.
The Lunas conversing with Evie dismissed the moment Ava touched Evie's arm.
The exchanged glares and Evie muttered something and turned away. Fume burst through Ava's face as she returned to my mom.
“I guess my sister is very angry about what happened earlier. Maybe, I should have gone with a gift to pacify her," she said sugarcoating her voice.
“You can leave. It's clear she won't be accepting your apology anytime soon," I grumbled with an annoyed tone.
She scoffed and walked away with my Mom laced to her like a handbag.
Evie's scent grew thicker making her presence behind me known. Her arms wrapped around my waist and a smile curved up my features.
“My, my, I am surprised Mrs Wolfe. Did something good just happen?" I teased and she tried to pull away from me but I trapped her hands before she could.
Evie was never the one to initiate public affection. Infact she fled whenever I tried to kiss her or display my love for her in public. But right now, she was doing the opposite.
“I am only staking my claim. There are too many women here trying to snatch you away from me. Ugh, you have no idea how many times I have been complimented about your beauty," she grunted like a jealous puppy.
“So you are showing them I am yours." I taunted further and she poked my side glaring up at me.
“Of course. If I don't, they will think I am just a fancy woman beside you." Her cheeks puffed and I couldn't help but like her jealousy.
I turned around for her to hug me properly and lowered my head to the angle that looked like we were kissing.
“What are you doing?" She panicked, blood rushing up to her face.
“Making your claim look authentic," I mused and she scoffed escaping my mischievous act. A chuckle rumbled from my chest as she took my wine and downed it in one go.
She coughed and hit her chest struggling with the after burn of the alcohol. I tried to get her a glass of water to cool the burn down. But the moment I turned my back to the next table, glasses shattered to the ground.
My heart stopped beating when I looked back to see Evie had collapsed on the floor, blood trailing from the side of her mouth.
“Evie, Evie, Evie, wake up" I slammed my knees to the ground holding her body with trembling hands. Her blood mixed with the spilled wine on the floor and began to sizzle like hot oil. She was poisoned.
I cupped her cheeks, trembling as her body turned cold. “Stay with me Evie. Guards!" I screamed as I carried her knocked out body and rushed out of the room.
She was dying.
My Evie was dying right before my eyes.
